  1. No it condems a DIFFERENT gospel, which ours is not.
  2. Years ago when I was in the restaurant business I would brng the coffee and tea grounds home (along with other food waste) for my compost pile.
  3. Nope, we looked.
  4. Mormons make the commitment to give up coffee - thats not a general commandment for everyone everywhere. I don't have a problem with Becks show advertising coffee. I would have a problem if he was drinking it on air knowing he was LDS. I don't watch him anyway.
  5. Funny thing is in Bishopric meeting we discussed active, partially active and inactive and what defines them. I was suprised that my standard was much tougher than the Bishop or his counselors (I'm the Exec Sec) They defined active as being there 75% of the time, partially active as being there 25% of the time and inactive as never or only a couple times a year of being there. I can't tell you if that was too tough or not - thats between you and the Bishop, I do know that my Stake President has said his goal is to have people attend the Temple so it may not have been as long in my Stake.
  6. Why would I want to mark scriptures online? I don't study scriptures online and I don't remember the book and chapter, I'm lucky to remember which of the standard works it's in. I remember a few keywords in a verse or a quote from someone that I remembered hearing that I used to be able to put into the search box and poof -- it USED TO come up. Now it doesn't!
  7. Oh, those darned Mormons, being nice again <<shakinghead>> They want to get to know you, to me one of the best things about the Church is that you can move anywhere in the world and have friends when you get there.
  8. I HATE it. Can't find anything, hate the new scripture layout, it doesn't work for what I use it for. The search used to work fine (at least in the Gospel Library which is what I used it for), now it doesn't work at all.
  9. Welcome to the website, please feel free to ask any questions you may have. here is a link to the Gospel Principles manual. Its the Sunday School manual for new members and those looking to learn what we're all about. Going through it is a great way to learn what we believe. Gospel Principles
  10. Yes and more even For whatever is bothering you (if anything is) How about for opportunities to do good that you may have missed? hard to do but gets easier the more you pray Never, I have bad knee's It gets easier the more you do it. I had a SS teacher tell us that when she prayed it was like she would talk to her father, I think thats a good starting point.
  11. What ever it cost the comapny in materials and labor is NOT the total cost to the company. Shipping, distribution, that building you're buying it in, lights, heat, air conditioning, labor for: sales force, management, security, janitors. Advertising, ink and paper for the cash registers, Government regulations, and 100's of other things all add to the cost. Thats not to mention profit, if it were not for profit, no one would go into business in the first place. I suggest you take a course in Business101 before making a statement like that.
  12. My opinion: "Go and sin no more." but if it bothers you then yes talk to him. I know some (many?) here will disagree but to me it's just not that big of a deal, UNLESS you have no control over it or it harms a relationship.
  13. Why, the Bible is not all the scripture there is.We ar enot a Bible only people, so if you ask us a question you must accept what we give you (not saying you have to believe it, but you must accept it as binding on us)
  14. Plenty of non-LDS composed songs in the Hymnbook
  15. Perhaps its in how the Bishop chooses topics and assigns speakers. Our meetings are fine
  16. I really HATE the new Church website Difficult to find what your looking for and finding a scripture by putting in a few key words is almost impossible- had to go to an outside Bible site today to find a verse I should have been able to find on my first attempt (and I did find it there first try) I don't want to study online, I'm not going to add notes or bookmark online scriptures. I want to be able to find verses and quotes and copy them for my use whether it be into MS Word for a talk or a lesson or to post on a message board, the old sdite made this so easy. Now when you copy and past a section of verses each verse has the full Book:Chapter: Verse number in front of it - just more stuff to delete. It just doesn't work - I know you can go to the "classic" start page, but the links still take you to the new stuff. And the new "Store" don't get me started on that - Y-U-C-K can't find anything!
  17. Sometimes a dream is just a dream. I would not count on anything, if it happens great but if it doesn't you are setting yourself up for a big disappointment. Let your prayers be that the Lord sends you where He wants you and leave it at that. True story; a member of a former ward felt strongly he would be sent to Germany, wanted to go there, studied German in school and was called on a mission to Colorado, served faithfully but was really disappointed, couldn;t figure out why the Lord didn;t call him on a mission to Germany, during the last few months of his mission in Colorado a German immigrent became interested in the Gospel and knowing German, the missionary was able to help teach this man. The man was baptised. A verse comes to mind Prepare yourself for a mission - anywhere, let the Lord handle the details.
  18. Its not meeting their needs and wants - whatever those needs and wants are - and its different for every person.
  19. No, never has been. The Gospel Principles Manual Learn the doctrine first from official sources, then if you want to you can browse MD.
  20. Makes no difference, he himself requested to be called Joseph -- End of story; Joseph it is.Also the four references you gave does not equal "ALL the time"
  21. Thats the same answer the Anti's give. Use peoples names correctly even if it takes you 2 whole seconds more to type it. Its shows respect both for the person whose name it is and also to the people reading the post.
  22. The insured are already paying for the uninsured through higher rates due to the hospitals trying to make up for the non-payers. Right now people without insurance use the ER's because by law they can not be turned away. Get Universal single payer healthcare and these people can go to a doctors office rather than tying up the much more expensive ER's with hang nails or a bad cough.
  23. $65 a month is cheap! consider yourself lucky. I pay $330 for my wife and I.
  24. Thanks for letting us know and welcome. Its been 17+ years for me and no regrets -- sure not everyone is perfect - certainly not me, but most are trying to be better every day and if someone slips, others are there to help them back up again. And yes, missionaries do talk and spread the word about what they are doing, who they are talking to - nothing to be scared about, you probably had a lot of people praying for you that you didn't even know about. Congratulations
  25. The Institute manual warns about the problems with numbers in the O.T. There is a modern case of a man being swallowed by a whale and living, happened in Europe in the 19th century. Swallowed by a Whale Almost every culture has a flood legend, so there has to be some basis for it - was it worldwide? was it local -- don't know, but to dismiss it completly would not be very smart. I would suggest that science is always evolving itself and there are honest disputes between scientists as to historical events. What science accepts today may or may not be what it accepts tomorrow.
