Any functioning male can get a woman pregnant, but it takes a special type of man to 'raise up rightous seed' or in other words to be a rightous father; those kind of men can be hard to find. Would you rather be 2nd wife to a rightous man? or only wife to an abusive man or an alcoholic man or even just a man that didn't believe in God?(assuming religion is important to you)

Exercise (the horror! the horror!) Motivation
mnn727 replied to theoriginalavatar's topic in General Discussion
I could never exercise after work(was tired, didn't feel like it, had other things to do, etc), so I arranged my life so I would have time to exercise before work, its scheduled in every morning. and after a while -- a couple weeks it becomes habit. Find something you like doing(or don't dislike too much) or and do it every day. Give yourself 2 or 3 weeks of doing it -- even build up gradually. When I started on my stationary bike. I only did 2 minutes daily for the first week, then I added 2 minutes each week till I got up to 10 minutes. I do 10 minutes on the bike along with 30 more minutes of a variety of other exercises. DON'T FORGET STRETCHING EXERCISES, these should be the first exercises you do to warm up and stretch your muscles. -
Marriage

That is incorrect. Salvation is a free gift to all mankind through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. As far as the rest of your post it sounds like you are getting your info from someplace that is not being entirely truthful with you. A really good way to lie is to tell some of the truth but put a spin on it which makes it untrue, then you can point to some source and say 'look it must be true'. -
I think you are a 100% right here, I strongly believe, but in order to 'know', Christ would have had to visit me in person and even then I could have been delusional or dreaming. To me its sad that such an emphasis has been placed on 'knowing' as I believe it leaves a 'bad taste' in some investigators mouths -- and some members too, it did in mine for a long time until I took the same attitude you did towards what they 'really meant'. There is nothing wrong with believing according to Jesus: John 20: 29 29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

How about another - Message board discussions have prompted me to study and learn more about my religion.

Since: most of my pictures, all my banking and bill info, etc are on my computer, I'd grab that and my animals (cats and dog)

Beta = product not ready for the general public yet, but they want some guinea pigs to test it out. As long as you know what you're getting.

Jack Chick -- a real 16th century kinda guy. Were he back in Galileos' time he'd make a comic about the Earth being the center of the universe

Really, its different for every person so I am not sure your question can really be answered. Let me tell you how 2 Prophets described it: a Prophet of old (Elijah) and a modern day Prophet (Gorden B Hinckley) described it in the same words when asked as part of an interview. 1st Kings 19:11 .....And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

After 17+ years baptised I still feel doubts at times about different things. It's normal in my opinion. We are all at different points in our spiritual journey and something that gives you doubts today may be answered fully to your satisfaction in a week or a year or even a decade. When I testify I testify to the truthfulness of the gospel and do not say that "I know the Church is true". its a small point it it works for me

At which time I'll be 111 and probaby in no condition to celebrate.

Have you seen what most 19 - 20 year old males beards look like? My gosh, I'm 54 and it takes 3 - 4 months before my beard looks decent, it could take a 19 year old his entire mission.

I have turned down 1 calling in my life and that was as a Primary Teacher. Now look, I have taught: E.Q., Gospel Principles in Church a couple times, and even a Gospel Principles class in a federal prison, yet the thought of teaching primary was more than I could handle. Unfortunatly the Lord got back at me and called me as Ward Exec Secretary a few months later.

Why haven't I got a better laughs/post ratio??

Some people are funny, some people just think they are funny. -
I wish I knew of some LDS owned businesses, however only if all things were equal would I go to them. For example, I found that the 2nd counselor in the Stake Presidency is a dentist and from what I have heard a pretty good one, but I already have a dentist that is good (and I have no idea what his religion is) so I not going to change. If I were in the market for a dentist I would probably give him a shot. For LDS books I will use Deseret, however for any other books Amazon is usually cheaper.

I agree, I think people are too quick to claim spiritual reasons for everyday occurances. I still don't think the supreme ruler of the universe finds keys for people.

You'll get over being a metal head, and there are much worse places to be than Wisconsin.

How do you get a calling in the church?
mnn727 replied to jonathan909817's topic in General Discussion
Our ward actually has a good problem to have - we have so many active members that without making up callings (which we have done) not every active member can have a calling. So if you have an extremly large number of active ward members you may spend some time without a calling. The Bishop and the leaders of the various auxilleries should be depending on prayer and inspiration to make callings, however I know from past experience this does not always happen. -
Thats the same thing my Dad said about worms the first time he took me fishing.

imagine that -- cows getting eternally eaten.
-
I firmly believe animals that were loved will be there. I doubt the cow made into a hamburger will be there, or the fire ants I poison. - What am I basing this on? nothing but my own kind of logic. just my 2 cents
-
Why anyone would want to eat fish bait is totally beyond me. I can't even conceive of a sitaution where I would be willing to try it.

The Bishop was cool about it to me, just said to use the official KJV verson when teaching, but the fact that at least 2 people went running to him is what got me. My gosh - you'd think I was letting my wife get a 2nd earring or I was growing a beard or something. My whole point in starting this thread a longtime ago was that not even the KJV is perfect so we use footnotes to the JST to clear things up, we could do the same thing with a modern version and it would be much easier to read and understand for EVERYONE. If just one person stops investigating the Church because they find the KJV too hard to understand, isn;t that 1 too many? or what if I had been just a bit more thin skinned and decided to become more offended than I was and become inactive due to these "good brethren" getting their "panties in a bunch" from hearing Gods word in an understandable form?(can you tell it still kinda bothers me - I really do equate these 'brothers' with the Pharisee's of old - but I will not let their action's dictate my level of activity)
