  1. Thats funny, I thought they spoke Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic, etc. Didn't know English was around in Biblical times. As a charector in a story I wrote told another charector "Jesus didn't speak the Kings English" It is however true that in the 1600's Thee and Thou were common speak rather than a show of respect.
  2. I couldn't disagree more. Are there some people that will have a problem? yes of course, but the vast majority of people understand that a game is a game and reality is reality. For everyone that has a problem you have thousands or tens of thousands that have no problems at all. Now if someone thinks they have a problem with it then yes they should give it up, but for someone to lump every player into the same catagory is just insane.
  3. Actually thats is a proof FOR the Book of Mormon as that is how a Hebrew would have spoken during the time it was written (approx 400 BC to 400 AD).Flames of fire, river of water, etc.
  4. Actually this is incorrect, 1611 KJV is almost incomprehensable to modern readers, the version of the King James Bible that is in use today was created in 1769, 61 years before the Book of Mormon was translated. English doesn't change a whole lot in 61 years. I'm 54 myself and still speak pretty much the same style of English I learned growing up. Here is an example 1 Corint 13 1-3 From the 1611 version From the 1769 version: In these three verses, there are eleven changes of spelling, three changes of punctuation, and one variant text - where "not charity" is substituted for "no charity" in verse two, in the erroneous belief that the original reading was a misprint.
  5. Lizzy -- it always helps to make some kind of comment when you post a link to something.
  6. If it bothers YOU then stop, frankly though most people can recognize fantasy and keep it seperate from reality. IMHO, there is nothing wrong with fantasy and entertainment I played D&D for years and am currently playing World of Warcraft (and I am in my 50's), to me the worst that can be said of it is that it wastes time that you could be doing other things and I am very careful to avoid this.
  7. No, we eat light on Sundays and much of the time I make it (Mormon male)I personally don't believe cooking food is against the Sabbath as its provide both a service (by making it) and something needed (food) to your family. I've had friends from Church over for a BBQ on Sunday which also provides fellowship. The Sabbath is not a day to do nothing, its a day to be centered on Christ and His attributes and I see providing food for family and friends as something Christ did (loaves and fishes, disciples in the field, etc) that shows your love for your family and friends. If Mom is slaving away preparing a feast while everyone else is laying around doing nothing then I think the whole family has problems and needs to rethink their attitudes towards the Sabbath.
  8. We had a Ward Carnival taking the place of Trunk or Treat on Saturday 12 game booths set up for the kids -- everyone got a piece of candy at each one, win or lose. plus bunches of candy handed out. Also a chili cookoff for the adults and hot dogs being grilled by the boy scout leaders. Much more fun than your usual trunk or treat. I had my lights off on Sunday as a matter of principle and I'm outside of Utah. But that is a personal choice NOT based on religous considerations. Many of the Churches around here (non-LDS) have some kind of trunk or treat or festival type thing and very few actually go out trick or treating no matter what night of the week it is. I got tired of all the older kids driving (ie over 16) to more than one neighborhood not in costumes and just trying to get as much candy as they can
  9. rameumptom's answer is the correct answer. It may not be what you are looking for, but it is 100% correct -- very little has ever been revealed, much speculation has been done. Here is what a Prophet of God has said in an interview that touched on this very subject: Thats not satisfying for a lot of people, but the truth is that nothing much has been revealed on the subject (and what has been can be taken a couple of differtent ways) and anyone teaching it as fact goes against what the (last) Prophet of God has stated.
  10. Why?Facebook seems really stupid to me, its either doesn't have enough info to be worthwhile, or it has too much info and you endanger yourself to the phishing/identy theft people. No thanks!
  11. Are you in my ward?
  12. What does adultry (having sex outside of marriage) and polygamy (marrying multiple partners) have to do with each other?
  13. The Protestant Church I grew up in everyone (who wanted to) went to Sunday School seperate classes for: Adults, Young Marrieds, kids (different classes for kids similar to our Primary)
  14. Same here
  15. Hopefully never. fly by wire is wrong on so many levels. If you have one you'd better pray you never lose power, or that theres never a computer glitch of any kind or even a strong magnetic field, or you lose: your steering, your brakes, your power; basically you are stuck with no way of doing anything but hang on and pray.
  16. The tell your RCC friend that the RM is a "know it all' that thinks he knows everything - but doesn't. we all know people like that, he should understand.
  17. While I personally think its a tiny bit strange, I see no Church rules being broken and no harm that could come of it since its all females and all related. Thats not how we did things in our household though.
  18. I find the moderation here pretty cool, keeps the inane arguing away, there are plenty of other boards for that kind of posting. Really, Moksa got banned? I wonder what for.(I don't read every thread -- too much to do in real life)
  19. When you say "totally wasted" would you define that - do you mean like high/drunk or do you mean tired/exhausted or what?
  20. My current ward at one point had a Brother whose last name was Bishop -- who was called to be the Bishop hence "Bishop Bishop"
  21. "Elder" is an office in the Priesthood, not a statement of age nor an honorary title given to someone because they are older and been a Church member for a while, nor is it a position in a Church similar to a director of a company. From the Gosple Priniples manual LDS.org - Lessons Chapter - Priesthood Organization Elder Elders are called to teach, expound, exhort, baptize, and watch over the Church (see D&C 20:42). All Melchizedek Priesthood holders are elders. They have the authority to bestow the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands (see D&C 20:43). Elders should conduct meetings of the Church as they are led by the Holy Ghost (see D&C 20:45; 46:2). Elders may administer to the sick (see D&C 42:44) and bless little children (see D&C 20:70). Elders may preside over Church meetings when there is no high priest present (D&C 107:11). Hope that helps
  22. OK - either I am a day late or I'm 6 months early: Try to keep the drinking and smoking to a minimum -- and only regular tobacco for the smokes - none of that funny stuff. OK, just kidding, follow the lead of the family, some will be formal, some informal and some everywhere inbetween. We DVR them and watch them when we have time, it was a great weekend for working outside, temps in the 70's here in Texas - something we don't see a lot of.
  23. Being a Ward Exec Secretary I make it a policy never to date anyone in the Ward -- if I did I'm sure my wife would find out and she'd kill me. J/K
  24. My wife and I are in our 50's and have no kids -- no one has ever looked down on us (that we know of at least). hey LDS are people too, The Church is not a refuge for perfect people, its more like a first aid station for sinners -- we have all kinds of people with the same kind of faults you find elsewhere.
  25. George Carlin was hilarious when he was 'clean' like on the (Johnny Carson)Tonight show, but then I saw him on HBO and my gosh all he did was swear. Red Skelton was probably the best of all time and never a swear word. Yes, I am old.
