  1. Been using CFLs for about 10 or 11 years now, it has not worsened my diabetes, it has not given me migraines, I have not gone into spasms from mercury poisoning, nor have I gone blind or been unable to relax. My first one burnt out about a week ago after at least 10 years of faithful service. I have had one effect - my electric bill is lower than it would have been with a bunch of 100w incandesents. oh one more thing, I have gotten 10 years older but I don't think I can blame that on the CFL's
  2. If you're not ready, you're not ready. Tell the woman that, who knows, she may wait (and then again she may not)
  3. I thought their whole point was it was not a decision.Personally I believe for some people its not a decision, for others it is. I see it as a line x% are gay x % are straight, everyone else falls in between and could go either way depending on circumstances.
  4. You are correct, but looking at the two men I think President (of the Church) Monson will outlive President (of the Quorum of the Twelve) Packer.
  5. There is only 1 unforgivable sin according to the Bible, all else will reach heaven, not all will be exalted.
  6. To add to what Loudmouth_Mormon has said about following commandments and living how Christ taught us to live. I see it something like this: Some Churches teach a Gospel ABOUT Jesus Christ, We teach the Gospel OF Jesus Christ Just to give you my two cents: Do you consider yourself a separate religion from Christianity or another faith denomination within Christianity such Baptist or Methodist? We are a restorationist denomination of Christianity Where does the word Mormon come from? Its the Prophets name that compiled the book of Scripture that we now call The Book of Mormon Are you an exclusivist religion? No, we believe most people can reach heaven What are your opinions on Christians that are not Mormons? Many people do the best they can with what they have. I admire honest followers of other religions and one of my greatest heros is Mother Teresa What are your opinions to Jehovah's Witnesses? Same as other religions. I admire those that follow their beliefs. We do have some doctrinal differences with them just as we do with other religions
  7. Don't do it, way too many Mormons living there
  8. Yes, make an appointment to talk with the Bishop Church welfare is to be given when other resources are not available (yourself or your family). It is not to maintain a lifestyle, you should be doing everything you can to cut expenses. It should be a temporary thing in most cases. You will probably be asked to do some labor in return for getting help -- usually assisting someone else with their needs. examples would be helping an older member with their garden or some home repair. perhaps assisting with cleaning the Church, something like that.
  9. Sorry, I just don't see it. Forgiving the guy doesn't mean you have to be buddies. What he did while wrong was not life threatening: nobody has cancer, nobody is bleeding and the fire department is not on its way. Time for your wife to learn to forgive and get on with her life.
  10. You don't believe Christ would tell you to forgive? Come on, you can't be serious?
  11. Again, what would Christ have you and your wife do?
  12. Ok, so the Church is not true because one guy was a jerk? Did your wife have a testimony of the Gospel or of the High Councilor? I'm sorry, but there are going to be people in every situation (Church, job, school, neighborhood, etc.) that are jerks that do something wrong. Why would you let them control your attitude and possibly even your exaltation? Was he wrong? yes. So what would Christ tell you to do?
  13. Not according to Scripture
  14. Seems like forever some Sundays
  15. I agree.Like you I used to try to supply arguments out of the Bible, but you know, we're NOT a 'Bible-only' believing people, so its an unreasonable request to make us prove everything out of just the Bible. Either someone has an open enough mind to put Moronis promise to the test or they don't, and if they don't then there is nothing in the world that would make them believe.
  16. Death can happen in the 'twinkling of an eye' and it sure changes things for you. Patriarchal Blessings are not guarentee's. and Some Patriarchs are more in tune with the Spirit than others. Mines so generic it reads like a horoscope.
  17. Little kids getting up for F&T meetings, especially those that need their patrent to whisper "their" testimonies to them. There was a F.P. letter a few years back saying primary kids had their opportunity in Primary and should not get up on F&T meeting
  18. Its not your job, leave it to Christ and His angels.
  19. They couldn't hold it before my birthday?
  20. Business money always gets deposited first -- this is standard accounting proctice. then business expenses get paid -all business expenses, then whatever is left over is your increase and THAT is what you can decide whether you want to pay tithing on. As far as your wife and the suitcase -- sounds like you have more problems than just paying tithing -- I'd get that figured out first myself. If my wife put out a suitcase for me to pack, I'd start packing HER things in it. Seriously -- y'all need some conversation and perhaps even some counseling.
  21. I've had to get up and move because some woman OR man comes in at the last moment wearing tons of purfume/cologne -- many of which gives me an instant migraine
  22. No, we're helping the people around us. We're preventing them from either: a.) Grasping their ears and running screaming out of the chapel due to the horrid sounds or b.) Cracking up and laughing hysterically at the off key notes we bellow out.
  23. Yup.There is no place in scripture that tells you what to do with your hands while praying, so to have it bother you.......... well you said it. Frankly folding your arms is weird, the denomination I grew up in had you fold your hands together -- which is weird also.
  24. Never heard of that either. IF a member ever did say/do that then they would have been very sadly misinformed as to our beliefs.
