  1. Something tells me Moksha OP was tongue in cheek. But it is a good argument for a non-global flood.
  2. I do, in Church even.
  3. Only if you are a dentist or work for one.
  4. The simple fact is, we don't have any doctrine declairing the answer. We do have lots of speculation and guesses, along with some unclear hints in scripture.
  5. Do you think God wrote the Bible? Do you think God protects the Bible from error? Do you think the English versions of the Bible have the exact same meanings as the originals? All 3 are incorrect
  6. But England doesn't play any real sports.
  7. Of course I agree Moksha, but 'it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks*" 'Tradition' is against the concept of readability *Acts 9:5, 26:14, D&C 121:38
  8. We actually had this happen when my wifes Grandmother died, We paid off all debt and then we bought a house and remodeled it, unfortunatly an unplanned job change (layoff/new job) made us sell it 2 years later during during the downturn in the housing market.
  9. No, we do not shun disfellowshipped or excommunicated members. They are denied the sacraments and can not hold callings, or give public prayers IN Church.
  10. They can repent and then be sealed
  11. I wondered where this topic was going
  12. The Bishop may want to speak with you, and you should speak to him, but share what you have just said, that you want to attend but are not ready to deal with whatever it is. Trust me, he'd rather have you there than have you absent. I had a Stake President tell the Bishops at a Stake Leadership meeting once that if they did not smell cigarette smoke or alcohol on some of their members they were not doing their duty, that the first thing to help someone is to get them coming to Church to feel the Spirit, to study the Gospel and to fellowship.
  13. You actually think Jesus spoke Olde English?
  14. I have no clue since that wasn't the spoken language of the people in the Bible.Perhaps it may make them feel superior to the rest of the people that don't read Greek?? Just another roadblock I guess. Do we really want to take the Gospel to every living creature or only to those with the training to read Olde English? Is God an Elitist? a respector of persons? Did Jesus only go to the Learned of His day?
  15. Why? because you had to they should too?
  16. In your opinion and for your generation. If this Church wants to continue to get converts in English speaking countries it needs to stop putting up roadblocks to reading the Gospel which is what the KJV is: a roadblock
  17. No, it would make no difference, I brought it up because you made it sound like they were getting rich off of these books and I was pointing out that they could not be getting rich. I wouldn't care if they did get rich off of them- I'm not the one having the problem with it.
  18. Well thats ONE persons opinion of couse if he agrees with your politics you're going to think he's great and reasonable.IBTL
  19. I've heard the exact same words spoken by anti-Mormons speaking about the Book of Mormon
  20. Being Outsdie of Utah, I was happy to find I could order things that Utah People take for granted. When I first converted I had no idea there were LDS Bookstores, I was like a kid in a candy store when I found that out. To be able to get books written by and for LDS people is great. Deseret Book and others like it provide a service that is worth money to me. Are LDS leaders getting rich off of these? I doubt it, the potential market is small, but I believe as the Bible says the worker is worthy of his hire. The F.P., the Twelve and the 70 can not have outside jobs, so if they write a book or 2 or 12 why shouldn't they be able to profit from it? As far as people making: statues, rings, etc. if there were not a market for it they wouldn't be in business. Should we take these books as scripture? Definatly not As far as lots of people getting rich, there is exactly 1 LDS bookstore in the entire DFW area - over 7 million people in the area (there used to be 2 but the area couldn't support 2 LDS bookstores) so when you get outside of Utah LDS items are not exactly big business.) The above examples are waaaaaaay different than a minister taking peoples tithing money and using it for big houses, fancy clothes, expensive cars, etc.
  21. I will be giving the closing prayer in Scarament this Sunday and we do need rain here in Texas.......
  22. Not in the least. Sorry but I can not see any logic behind your statement as there are many foriegn language Bibles (non-KJV) in use in the Church.
  23. IF there is something behind Glenn Beck, it certainly is NOT God
  24. Somehow I doubt He prayed in EnglishCome on people, Joseph Smith used those words because it was the language of scripture in 1830 (ie Tradition)
  25. We have been told to, but never by revelation. Thus it is leaders of the Church teaching it - now you can argue all day long about inspiration and authority. But again, until I see a revelation added to the official canon of the Church, to me it boils down to Tradition.
