Hi Miss Halfway! Welcome to the site :)

Hi Ex19K...I recently started to attend the LDS church again, after 26 years of inactivity...I've found the people really friendly, even the ones who knew me way back when, and I've been studying in the Gospel Principles class as well as attending Sacrament and Relief Society meetings. I've been having a sort of refresher course with the Missionaries, and my Baptism date is set for the 16Th February too!! Great to see you here, hope it helps you on the days when you don't have friends from the church to see :)

LM, I agree with you...forgetting every little hurt done to you is okay, but the bigger, more important hurts you ought to recall, so that you can at least be aware of the dangers if you still wish to hang out with the people who hurt you.

Hi Shell72, I was referring to the fact that when non-LDS are faced with the LDS notion of God having been mortal and exalted, and having been born of Heavenly parents himself, that is where non-LDS start to ask those questions..of course, without knowledge of the LDS beliefs in this matter, a non-LDS person has no reason to ask those questions if they believe that God has always existed as an entity without having been born..

Another example of incompetent American education.

I was bullied physically and verbally at Junior school and Secondary school by one girl in particular. She was bigger than me, overweight, and aggresive to anyone she could scare. I once asked her why she picked on me and she said just because she could. I told over her at Junior school and she was told off for her behaviour, at Secondary school it was more difficult. For my 1st year there, my sister and her friends were still in their final school year, so they could keep an eye on me sometimes, when my sister said 'stop picking on my sister or I'll kill you' to the girl who'd been bullying me, she told the Head Teacher and my sister and myself were almost expelled for picking on that girl!! She always had a way of turning sweet when teachers were around. Both my son and daughter have been bullied too..My daughter was bullied at her Junior school for most of the time..one year, when she was 7, she was very ill for most of the time, so she missed school on lots of occasions, when she was bullied on her return to school and I enquired about it, the supply teacher told me that kids easily forget who a pupil is if they are off school for 2/3 weeks at a time, and it was just Becki's own fault that she couldn't stop being bullied! In the end one of her teachers made the whole class state separately, in front of the whole class, the reason why they bullied Becki, and then they had to promise to befriend her more...I was in tears over Becki having to go thru this. At Secondary school the bullying continued and I was told that Becki was a typical 'victim', she was ill with severe asthma, had problems with her mobility due to a leg problem and she had ginger hair..the school said that she just had to toughen up. She is only now getting over the way she was treated, and wants to have a career in play therapy, in order to help other kids having problems. My son started being bullied in his last year of Junior school and it continued for his 1st 3 years of Secondary school. Finally, this autumn, we had him moved from his existing Secondary school...a Catholic run school, to a state run school closer to home...the bullying has stopped and he is improving in his results there. He is happy each day when he returns home from this new school, and I can't believe the change in him. It is unfortunate that schools, with Anti Bullying Policies in place still cannot properly deal with bullying which has become chronic. I do believe that parents need to be more proactive at contacting the parents of the bullies, but am also aware of the additional problems this can cause for the child being bullied. It is a sad reflection on society when the bullies get to remain in school, virtually unpunished, while the victims are made to move from school to school until the bullying one day ceases or until they commit suicide...tragic. -
LOL Canuck!! Last year I bought some dual DVDs of the Python films, but I still haven't got around to watching them all again...I must have a Python evening, methinks! :)

I've found in recent years, that it is better to try to forgive and forget misdeeds done to you, as it is terrible to walk thru life with a bitter heart..

LOL Willow..I know just how you felt!! Pondering the Universe, life and all is a real headache. I suppose the thing I'm beginning to accept about all religions, is that nobody has all the answers to what the Roman Catholics refer to as 'mysteries', so I'm able to just look at some stuff superficially in order to not give myself that headache anymore...thanks for your perspective on it. :)

Winnie, I feel very sorry for your grief, I do hope that you will be able to come to terms with your loss thru the love of friends and other relatives :)

Answering the "free choice" question from a teen.
pushka replied to Fiannan's topic in General Discussion
I do believe that we all have a choice as to the direction we wish our lives to take, however I also believe that it is very difficult to live a non-conformist life within the societal boundaries of what is acceptable or not... -
You're Welcome Abe :)

Hi Abe! Welcome to the site, I'm sure you'll enjoy it here and meet lots of new friends. I have problems with anxiety too, and I'd been thinking of returning to my local LDS church in recent months, and was just the same as you, imagining that the people I knew there 26 years ago would judge me because of the most stupid thing! Because I'd gained weight, lol!! Just goes to show that even if you have nothing to worry about really, you can always create something to worry about! As it is, I've been attending for the last 3 weeks, have met plenty of my old friends there (including an ex boyfriend), and many new friends, and I've been totally accepted and welcomed. There are all sorts of reasons why people become inactive, and I'm sure you know that the church members are only concerned about making you feel comfortable again, and allowing you the time to learn again and renew any covenants that you once made. Don't be afraid...ring the Bishop's office, or the number of any members you still know, and arrange for someone to meet you at the door..it is that simple. Good Luck! :)

Ahhh....Monty Python's Ministry of Silly Walks...one of my all time favourite Python sketches, but don't forget the Dead Parrot and I'm A Lumberjack!! :)

Thanks for the explanation a-train..it confirms what I'd always been led to believe was the LDS take on this...I suppose this is where most non-LDS start to ponder on the lineage of God the Father..such as who was His Father? Who was His Grandfather? Did they also take on the Mortal form and become exalted to their positions of God? Did they also have Heavenly Mothers, and were they married during their mortality then become exalted...this goes on and on, back in time to who really was the 1st God The Father.. I don't ask this to be testy or anything, it is a genuine thought that comes to mind..and I suppose it borders on Atheistic beliefs too...

I'm inspired by the Jews and others who suffered at the hands of the Nazis in the Holocaust..stories of such as Anne Frank and the non-Jewish people who hid Jews and rescued their children. -
a-train, I wish there was someway of doing that and having it counted too...unfortunately it would be considered a 'spoilt' paper if I was to write something on it...

Thanks for the thread Traveler.. I have become disillusioned with Party Politics too, over the years..I have attended Anarchist meetings in recent years, and prior to that Socialist Meetings...I don't vote at General Elections much either nowadays, as the kinds of politicians that I admire do not appear to get anywhere in General Elections...sometimes I will vote in Local Elections if these 'smaller' parties are represented.
