Another attempt at describing the Trinity
pushka replied to AnthonyB's topic in Christian Beliefs Board
I'm only joking Anthony! I was brought up a Roman Catholic, and have had the Trinity explained to me a number of different ways, and it still baffles me...however I do find it difficult to think of God the Father and Jesus being seperate people.. -

Well Done!!! :) -
Does that come under the same rule as if you earn above x amount you must let the DSS know? Also, you must let them know if you do any work, voluntary, paid or unpaid?

Thanks for your additional replies cjcampbell and Willow.. CJ, I wasn't suggesting that only the rich ought to pay tithes, I do understand the parable of the poor widow and other such stories/examples..I wish that I could easily trust God that I would be helped out if I paid tithing on the SS benefits that I receive. Willow, you bring up a good question regarding SS in the UK and how you are assessed on what you receive. I would feel bad if I took money which was there to support my children, and gave it to the Church..however, I have been thinking that a compromise, if one would be acceptable, would be to pay the savings I make on receiving lifts to church back to the church as a tithing offering. As some of you have suggested, it would be wise for me to consult somebody in authority to see what might be acceptable..

I get all sorts of forwarded messages, from all sorts of sources..at one time I used to forward nearly all of them to my contacts, now I select those which are the least offensive or hypocritical to send to particular people only... I tend to copy/paste the text where possible too, so that I am not unintentionally sending viruses that might be attached, or details of others' email addresses...and it's easier to scroll to the text that way..

Wanderer, I've been following this thread since yesterday, and I commend you for using your own mind and searching the kind of religion that you want, rather than just going along with that of your family, just to keep the peace. From your last post, it sounds like your family were not acting very Christian when they put your knapsack of clothing outside..

Wordflood, that 3 months supply sounds great and very easy to stock up.

Thanks for the info. Iggy, this was something that has been on my mind this week, and has been bothering me :)

Hi Katuana! Welcome to the site :)

I've just re-read this thread, because I thought, somewhere in it, that paying tithing when you're reliant on Social Security Benefits only might have been mentioned...it turns out that it wasn't. Is there any consensus on paying tithing when you're reliant only upon Social Security Benefits, such as Income support? Does the church still require you to pay 10% of this figure even though being on Income Support means that you are counted as being too low paid to pay prescription charges, Council Tax or Rent in the UK?

It's good to hear that, with a little thought, we can often find alternatives to spanking kids for 'bad' behaviour. Charley, I loved reading about the methods you use in your household, and am pleased to read that your kids are growing up confidently as a result of them! :) Btw Charley, have you had to change your username?

"Using New Media to Support the Work of the Church."
pushka replied to Andy_Plsn's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Thanks for the link Moksha, I read the 1st thread on that link, about man becoming gods, and found it interesting that other writings such as Iraneus were used as well as the Bible and LDS's other scriptures. -
Hiya!! I hope you enjoy it here, have you posted your Islam thread anywhere on this site yet?

I tried to edit the above, but the egg timer was taking too long.. Anyway, I meant to add that during our 'negotiations' we arrange times to return home or other 'rules' if and when appropriate...this tends to work for us..
-
The reasoning I do with my kids isn't a way of compromising if they don't agree with my 'rules' (I don't really keep a rule book as such, the kids ask me if they can do a certain thing, or tell me they're doing it and we negotiate the pros and cons of their intended actions). Thankfully they don't often throw hissy fits or any other kind of tantrums, and if they choose to sulk over a situation I just give them enough time to think about it, and then go and talk to them, pointing out the benefits of behaving in certain ways...I try not to issue negative incentives..

Aww, Iggy, you've just burst my bubble There I was, full of pride, thinking I was something special...LOL! :)
