I think thats pretty cool, there's often not a lot of people who really understand others, when it comes to religious belief, people make a lot of mistakes in thinking begin to stereotype others when they'd normally not (one would hope) make those mistakes about other areas of their lives. People think a lot of things about the LDS church and its members which are untrue. I'm sure some LDS do about people of other faiths. My opinion? I attribute much of this to a weakness of faith, both in our own belief, and in ourselves. We are afraid that if we attempt to understand what another person is saying it will threaten the beliefs we hold dear. Why? We are unsure of the strength of our own faith. It is possible I think, to be able to examine the beliefs of others with courage, and come away with no harm to your own belief, save a richer perspective. However to understand another point of view should not necessarily mean to sympathize or agree. There is obviously a limit on this sort of thing, you ought to keep the main thing the main thing, and stay away from sin. Did anyone else get the antidepressant advertisements? They started popping up after I put in my belief about how to attain salvation Quote
WillowTheWhisp Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 I'm stumbling at the first question because it doesn't seem to give an alternative which is exactly what I believe so I'll have to settle for the next best thing. Quote
