pam Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 Woo-hoo! You get bonus points for not ending your post with "Now to work for me and getting that big screen TV and new car."LM New car would mean another car payment. My car is almost 10 years old..but I want it to last quite awhile longer. Quote

Food storage may not work depending on where you live. It is the knowing the Spirit when it comes as a warning in the night, is far greater important for the Saints. Quote
rameumptom Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Congrats, Pam! Now that you are debt free, do you whistle like Pres Faust did when paying off his house (according to Pres Hinckley)? We have a small house payment, and debt free otherwise. And we make extra payments to pay it off quicker. Quote
MichaelPAGuy Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Congratulations! What is your secret to being debt free? Quote

rameumptom Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 Congratulations! What is your secret to being debt free?I would suppose it is just to budget well, live by her budget, and pay her bills in full. Quote
pam Posted August 30, 2009 Author Report Posted August 30, 2009 Part of my "secret" has been the issues of credit cards. I have one credit card (Chevron credit card)..but I think in all the time I've had it I've used it twice and immediately paid it off on payday. I've learned a lot of lessons over the years about credit cards and how they can totally get away from you. Believe me been there done that. I was probably at one time $15,000 in credit card debt. Plus let me mention one aspect that I failed to mention earlier that helped. It was having a friend that has LOTS of money purchase a mobile home and present it to me as a gift. She found out that the apartment complex I lived in was getting ready to raise my rent $300 a month taking it to $1300 each month. And yes that's in the Salt Lake valley. So while I own my mobile home I do have a very small monthly space rental in a mobile home park. But I had plenty of debts that has just taken time to get paid off. Lots of medical bills that insurance didn't cover that took me a long time to pay off. I've had one "real" vacation in the last 10 years and that was going to Disneyland almost 4 years ago with my parents and siblings and their families. But we planned on that for over a year. For awhile during my scrapbooking craze..I was spending literally hundreds of dollars for all the scrapbooking supplies. Now I set a limit on myself of maybe $20 a month. I don't go to the theater and pay the outrageous prices to see a new release movie. I wait until it comes out on dvd and rent it from Redbox for $1. Please let there be no misunderstanding when I state the things I have given up. I'm in no way condemning those that love going to the movies etc. I used to go all the time myself..it was just something I found I could do cheaper waiting for the dvd. But getting out of debt can be done..just takes some sacrifices...forgoing the yearly vacations, purchasing the new car every 3-4 years. And I did it on a single mom's income. Quote
