Movie Quotations That Are Part of Your Family Culture

Just reflecting the other day of the number of movie quotes we use in our family in normal conversation. Do you have movie quotes that you use a lot?

Here are a couple that are embedded in our family culture:

If you don't want someone to touch something, you tell everyone:

"No Touchey!" (David Spade, in the role of Cuzco in The Emporer's New Groove).

Or, if someone shows you something, and you like it, someone always says:

"Nice, How Very, Very Nice!!" (in a nasal British accent, with the "r's" pronounced as "w"s -- taken from Young Sherlock Holmes when Holmes and Watson show an ancient indian blowpipe to an antiques dealer).

Or, if you want someone to hurry up and get to the car, my wife particularly will mimic Bonnie Hunt in her role as a tour guide in Only You (Robert Downey Junior and Marisa Tomai)

"This way -- we're walking, we're walking -- this way -- we're walking, we're walking!".

Do you have any?

"Manganese, manganese, manganese!" (Minnie Driver in Uncorked)

Anything from The West Wing (hence the name "Wingnut")

Nothing else is really coming to mind right now, but I know there are others.

With teenagers and they ask for something: "Show me the money"

You'll notice a theme as to where ours come from. ^_^

"Now go, before I taunt you a second time!"

"Run awaaaaaay! Run awaaaaay!"

"I'm not dead yet!" (when one of us is really sick)

"I wasn't expecting the bloody Spanish Inquisition!"

"I like traffic lights, especially when they're green!" (when we're in stop-and-go city traffic)

"And now for something completely different"

"She turned me into a newt!" (my siblings and I used to say this one when my parents would interrupt us having an argument. "What's going on in here?!" "She turned me into a newt!")

"The cat's choked on a lupin!" (really just coughing up a hairball)

"It's..."

When someone want you to look at something;

"Don't do it! Next she'll want to see yours"

(it's from a line used by Fireside Theatre, a radio comedy group in the 1970’s in Los Angeles)

"I wasn't expecting the bloody Spanish Inquisition!"

"Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!" (That's another one of ours.)

...and, while not a movie, The Big Bang Theory.

"Homo habilus discovering his opposable thumb says 'whaaaat?'" We just started watching this on DVD, and had to pause it at that line because we were laughing so hard.

We're also known to spout out random lines from Veggie Tales (which we watch thanks to the two-year-old).

My family and I aren't LDS, so some of the movie lines we quote sometimes come from R rated movies. Nothing with foul language is quoted, as there are more lines that are clean.

We also quote lines from anything Monty Python, and the original Star Wars movies.

When we're about to enter a difficult situation, like traffic on a freeway --

"I've got a bad feeling about this" (Star Wars favorite)

Or, if someone cuts themself"

"It's only a flesh wound!" (Monty Python when someone cut off their arm and blood is gushing out in buckets!!!)

"Run, Forest, run!"

"Show me the money!"

"Hmmm.. Gelflings.."

I don't know. Those are just a few that I remember using with family members. My husband and I usually do quotations from songs and not really movies.

not a movie but due to having to many little ones i catch myself singing this one when trying to get them all in the car...

Come on, vámonos.

Everybody let’s go.

Come on, let’s get to it.

I know that we can do it.

Where are we going?

We have reinacted variations on these lines from Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory:

"Daddy, I want another pony and I want it now."

"Whatever you say, Veruka."

I've been known at random times to say "Violet, you're turning violet, Violet!"

I jus saw Shrek 4 this evening, and I'm pretty sure the phrase "Don't make me put on my ANGRY WIG" is going to come up in our family at different times in the future!

Sometimes when one of us is having a hard time doing something usually the line from "Meet the Robinsons" comes up..."I have a big head and little arms."

My kids loved The Wizard of Oz and whenever we went on a trip -- no place in particular....

"We're off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz!"

and, we went camping a lot, soooo "Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!"

Along those lines (from what it sounds like, though I haven't seen Shrek 4), another recent favorite of mine is Ray (the firefly) from The Princess and the Frog, when he says "Don't make me light my butt!"

And, along those same lines, when the children aren't behaving and my wife's around to get the joke, I'll quote Mrs. Doubtfire when Robin Williams says to some kids who were supposedly misbehaving -- "Don't make me get the HOSE!!!".
