I got txting a friend who made the comment that "housing" should be free because everyone should have a place to call home. She can be a bit idealistic AKA unrealistic about things.. After all, houses don't build themselves.

What is on your list of things that you feel should be free?

Living in an area where sometimes we have smog levels that exceed even Los Angeles and being told to limit our driving...it would be nice to have days of free public transportation to be able to adhere to the suggestion.

Nothing we should be free to peruse the things we wish to, and free to fail and free to succeed with out having the rest of society pay for our wants, because that's not what other people are here for.

I was just telling my boys today...

Nothing in life is free except for the Atonement.

My son asked - the air is free.

I said... when you get to be as old as I am, you will very soon realize that not even the air you breathe is free. Somebody had to pay for you to breathe that air. And we went on to a discussion of oppression under Marcos' regime...

So, I don't expect anything to be free. But, but, but, public school in America is free... Ya think? Money don't grow on trees.

Music. I used to pirate, and after I stopped and started paying for what I wanted to keep, you wouldn't believe how much it costs to have this as a hobby. Hahaha.

EDIT: There's quite a big movement in the underground music industry right now to go independent and seek little to no profit. I'm overjoyed because a. I don't have to pay, and b. art is a great thing to be able to appreciate for free. A lot of it is by principle, but a lot of it is also a reaction to piracy as well. Ironically enough, sites like bandcamp that offer a pay what you want feature and/or very low prices are seeing huge success because people feel more obliged to give money to an artist who asks rather than demands, and it also allows people to listen and really enjoy it before they decide to donate to the band if they decide the band is enjoyable enough. Personally, I pay for everything that I'm required to pay for and download for free what's free. If I can't do that, I support bands in other ways in exchange for albums. I write reviews.

Hehe. We're headed to Olive Garden right now! Would it still be free even though we tip? :P

Fairbanks actually has no-pay public transportation in the winter as an air quality measure.

Then not even the Atonement is free, Christ had to pay to provide it for you. Ultimately it comes down to what you think free means. Doesn't have consequences versus doesn't cost money out of your pocket (just two definitions of the numerous out there) provide very different lists. Actually the first has a nonexistent list depending on how you think about it.

That's exactly what I was thinking, too. Not to mention that while we are all saved (will we live again) because of the Atonement, not all will be exalted because of it without some of our own blood, sweat, and tears.

Not true. You don't have to do anything/give anything to get the Atonement.

You have to pay taxes to pay for the military that give you the freedom to breathe your air.

Through his sinless life, his genetic nature as the Only Begotten of the Father, and his willingness to drink the bitter cup of justice, the Savior was able to atone unconditionally for Adam and Eve’s transgression and for physical death, and to atone conditionally for our personal sins. The unconditional part of the Atonement is a free gift of grace requiring no further action on our part. The conditional part, however, requires our repentance as the condition of applying mercy to our personal sins.

It is not so cut and dried. :)
