The election and all that jazz! Hip hip hooray!

I'm in Utah and voted for 'the other guy'. Needless to say, it's been a rather sensitive subject in my neck of the woods. I generally don't discuss politics at all with just anyone but on FB and Twitter I'm open about who I support, and that didn't go over well with some people. So I'm poppin' the fizzy bubbly (7UP I guess) and waiting it out. What will be will be, and hopefully when this is all over, we can be friends again :)

(Mod hat on)

Just a reminder that LDS.net's proscription on discussion of specific candidates remains in force until the last poll closes tonight. Maybe longer, if the mods get sufficiently cranky. ;)

Not to be the cynic, but it isn't almost over. Even if we are lucky enough to have a clear winner by the end of the night, we then have to endure the weeks upon weeks of whining about the result.

This is true.

I've been so tense, just knowing the outcome is good enough for me. I can avoid the internet after if I need to. Pretty much everyone in my area is voting for the same person, so I don't think there will be a lot of chatter afterward.

I even volunteered to work tonight so I won't have to watch the results coming in. I just want it all at once, rip it off like a band aid. That's me.

No matter who wins today: the sun will rise in the morning, Jesus is still the Christ, the Church is Still true and Thomas Monson is Gods Prophet on Earth today.

I started reading this thread and then realized my vow to avoid any political stress today.

*sticks fingers in ears* LALALALALA!!!!

This is the most exciting day of the year. Lots more interesting than Christmas. In our house we have a son who does not agree with us politically. He has tried to get us to promise we wont gloat when our side wins and he agrees to not gloat if his does. I asked what he was going to do if his side lost. He said he doesnt want to hear anything from us ever. Not even celebrating. lol. The funniest part is we dont gloat. We will be happy. More relieved to be honest. Oh my but he does though. Oh well.

There will be a lot of chatter if their preferred candidate loses.

From some of the things I've heard from people, I'm not sure they believe this is true. :(

True. Too many Saints, myself included, forget that this mortal life is a "veil of tears" and was not intended to be perfect. We have survived the last four years, excruciating though they have been. We can survive another four.

And if, as some suppose may happen, the US ceases to exist as we have known it and turns into Europe West, well, so be it. We still have the gospel of Jesus Christ. Frankly, it's not like the president has the political power or will to single-handedly reverse this nation's course, in any case. I'm not saying it doesn't matter -- I'm neither that fatalistic nor that jaded -- but we should not put our hope in the arm of flesh. Slogan-wise, that's pretty much what got us into this mess, isn't it? Hope and change, right? But not enough of the former and more than we bargained for of the latter.

I'll just be happy once I stop getting auto-forwarded (supposedly "funny") political emails from family that are on the opposite side of the fence.

I'm looking forward to not having to explain American Constitutional law to Americans. The most common of which:

1.) No. The President cannot reverse Roe vs. Wade.

2.) No. The President cannot balance the budget.

3.) No. The President cannot create a single job that is not paid for completely by the taxpayers.

4.) No. There is no right, enumerated or implied, to free contraceptives.

5.) Yes. Corporations are people too.

I just hate waiting.

It's like an all-day mystery... and I can't "DVR" to the end!

The good news is that the first polls have already closed, and results are coming in now.

Great. I'll get home and my husband will certainly have the tv on...

RealClearPolitics.com has done us the kindness of grouping the states according to what time we can expect their results to be released. Check it out (if you dare).

I'm going to close this until the election is done. It's too tempting. I'll reopen afterwards.

Remember polls haven't closed in all states with the time changes. And we'd have to wait for Hawaii.
