Vort Posted December 12, 2012 Report Posted December 12, 2012 (edited) A few include:In Humility, Our Savior: The most beautiful sacrament hymn we have, bar none.My Heavenly Father Loves Me: Like fine bread or mother's milk, it's an everyday miracle that we take for granted. One of the greatest hymns of all time. The Wint'ry Day, Descending to Its Close: One of the most beautiful hymns in the hymnbook, though few Saints know it.The Commandments: Simple Primary hymn, very pretty, easy to learn, and teaches you the ten commandments (and then some).Mary's Lullaby: Very pretty, little-known, seldom-heard Christmas hymn.Love at Home: The gist of the plan of salvation and the thrust of God's work and glory, presented in hymn form. Guest Posted December 12, 2012 Report Posted December 12, 2012 A few include:In Humility, Our Savior: The most beautiful sacrament hymn we have, bar none.We sing that a lot at our ward.Mary's Lullaby: Very pretty, little-known, seldom-heard Christmas hymn.We just sang that in Primary last Sunday. I'm teaching them the whole shebang - two part harmony with the descant on the 2nd verse. I love that song! We're polishing up on it this Sunday in preparation for the special Sharing Time on the 23rd.Here's one that I learned to love that I've never heard sung in our ward. The Primary sang a medley of this song and Because I Have Been Given Much for Thanksgiving sacrament meeting.Father Thy Children To Thee Now Raise Quote
trubludru Posted December 12, 2012 Report Posted December 12, 2012 I always felt Testimony is under-utilized. It is short somewhat simple but strangely powerful to me. Quote
classylady Posted December 12, 2012 Report Posted December 12, 2012 I love hymn #158: Before Thee, Lord, I Bow My Head. When the harmonies are sung it's beautiful! Quote
beefche Posted December 12, 2012 Report Posted December 12, 2012 Hymn #169, As We Now Take The Sacrament. Love that hymn and love singing the parts. Quote
dahlia Posted December 12, 2012 Report Posted December 12, 2012 We sing 'Love at Home' fairly frequently. I cry like a freakin' baby every time. It's disgraceful. Quote

Just_A_Guy Posted December 13, 2012 Report Posted December 13, 2012 Also "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me" and "How Gentle God's Commands".Speaking of uncomfortable laughter . . . my sister and I saw Legacy years and years ago when it was playing in the Joseph Smith building. You know that sappy part when the husband's leaving with the Mormon Battalion and the wife is blubbering and gives that horrible line about how "when I see you again, it will be Zion to me"?We both lost it right then. I still remember the looks of horror on the faces of the other members of the audience. Quote
beefche Posted December 13, 2012 Report Posted December 13, 2012 Maybe uncontrollably is a better word. I am not familiar with the Singles Ward version. Quote

Wingnut Posted December 13, 2012 Report Posted December 13, 2012 Maybe uncontrollably is a better word. I am not familiar with the Singles Ward version. That's not actually what I was thinking of, though, now that I listen to it again. When I was...I'm not sure, in the MTC maybe?...there was a sarcastic echo on the chorus: "children's voices oh how sweet (how sweet)," and that's what I was thinking of. Quote

I don't mind that version because the guitar and drums drowns out the singer and you can't hear him singing the words. Quote

It's not really a song that has "versions," if you will, so this is nice. But yeah, mostly because you can't hear the words. Lol. Quote
NeuroTypical Posted December 13, 2012 Report Posted December 13, 2012 Wingnut beat me to it. Lead Kindly Light. After I heard it for the first time a year or two ago, I was actually almost upset with all the mormons in my life, for not exposing me to it earlier. Quote
