Comb overs look like what they are...a balding person trying to believe they are not going bald.

Sorry but IMHO combovers are stupid!

You are so right - people trying to present themselves in what they think is a pleasing manner - especially fixing their hair are so fake - and you said it - stupid??? :D

I think that most people doing "comb overs" would be better off just shaving it all off. A full bald head is a much better fashion statement than trying to pretend to have more hair where there is none.

I agree with LM. Such a trivial thing to have to worry about others or even have a discussion on. I have enough in my own life to worry about than to criticize people's reasons for combovers.

I've always thought the comb over got a lot of unnecessary hate. I'll go as far as saying it's a viable style even for someone who hasn't lost their hair.

I think it does get unnecessary hate, being made by some into almost a moral decision. That said, I think it is more often than not a stylistic faux pas.

To me it is in the same category as women who color their hair too dark of a color, and wear too much AND too dark of makeup.

Accept how God has made you, and do so proudly as a child of God.

I accepted the fact that as I aged, my coloring was softening rather than fading. Also as I was *softening* my hair went from Battle Ship dull gray to soft silvery gray mixed with white. Plus the makeup companies do not make light gray eyebrow pencils or mascara.

personally I generally don't go for it (at that point i'd go for the shaved head). but if anyone has the skills, they can make anything look right.

What if the wearer is not balding?

Very few people can pull off a comb over well. Bob Newhart would not be the same without one.

Well I put myself out there, do you count me among them?

Yikes.

This seems a slippery slope.

Would you care to add any qualifiers before I point out why I find this notion so problematic.

I really fail to see what is so problematic about Iggy's comment.

I have a BIL that does this but it doesn't look as bad as OP's picture. I don't particularly care for it, I'd rather a bald man than a combed-over man but I think what it really boils down to is how you feel about yourself. If combing your hair over boosts a bit of your confidence--so be it. I wear makeup, which is unnecessary but I feel better with it on than not. Big whoop. I agree with others, life is much easier when you don't bother ourselves with how others choose to present themselves.

My dad wore a comb-over. It's fine as long as he takes care to "swipe" it when swimming. That's the only time it doesn't look right.

He lost his hair during chemo and what is left over is like baby puffs of hair that there's not much to pull his signature comb-over. I started to really miss the comb-overs. My dad didn't seem the same without it.

My dad finally succombed to his illness and would you believe it - I missed that comb-over... very very very very much. I loved that hair. Especially when he does the hair swipe when swimming. It is sooo... my dad.

I have enough worries and trials in my life than to worry about someone elses combovers.

Perhaps it is just that I was balding in high school but I have never understood why some people are so obsessed with hair. Perhaps it is my circumstance but hair (including back hair) is not a consideration I have in determining who I trust or even care about.
