Iggy Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 That should have been discussed in your Temple Prep classes. If not, you should bring it up with your Temple Prep teacher. Quote
Traveler Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 I'm going to the Preston England Temple for the first time on the 7th June!! I'm so excited! This will be my first time ever at this or any Temple, so what are the do's and don't s for a first Temple visit?Congratulations!!! 1. Take the Temple Prep course. If there is no one called to teach the course - read online the temple prep manual. If you read the manual find someone that attends the temple regularly to ask any questions you have. You many want to send private messages with questions to those you respect in the forum. 2. Find someone locally to go with you to the temple. This must be someone that is temple worthy and has attended the temple and they need to be the same gender as your are. This will allow them to escort and help you. Find someone that loves and enjoys the temple. 3. For your first time - I suggest going with an attitude of fasting and prayer. 4. Plan to attend the temple again at least 3 times in the next 2 to three months. If the journey to the temple is a difficult distance for where you live then plan at least 1 follow up visit and plan to do more than one endowment and some initiatory. 5. If you have concerns in you life of special importance to you - ask about the prayer roll when you get to the temple. Place you name (or someone of concern) on the prayer roll and plan to participate in the temple prayer. If you do this - it will add to you experience - if you do this the get someone you know and trust of the opposite of your gender that is temple worthy and will agree to come with you and assist you in participating in the prayer. Backroads Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 Relax and just let the session go as it does. Your first temple experience may overwhelm you. It may underwhelmed you. Just accept it for what it is. Quote
Latter Days Guy Posted May 18, 2014 Author Report Posted May 18, 2014 Thanks for the advice! There is a group from my ward going so I will be with people I know who have been to the Temple loads! When the Bishop mentioned that there was a trip going on that date and asked if I wanted to go he didn't mention anything about a course to do first, found the manuals this afternoon on my tablet so going to read through them over the coming week and put some questions together. Think some emails are going to be passing between my home teacher and me over the coming days! Also got my Patriarchal blessing recommend form thing today, just have to arrange for a time to go visit the Patriarch! Exciting times ahead for me!! Traveler 1 Quote

Latter Days Guy Posted May 19, 2014 Author Report Posted May 19, 2014 Will you have your temple recommend and be attending a session? Or, are you just going to be visiting the temple grounds/visitor's center? I've got my temple recommend interview soon, and the bishop said that he was very happy with my progress since returning to Church. Yes I'm hoping to do some temple work, the bishop asked me how it was going with my family history and was pleased to hear that I had done quite a bit work in that regard over the last few months. He said that it would be a limited recommend but I was so excited I forgot to ask what that meant! I must sound like some silly teenager with all my excitement!! Traveler 1 Quote

Roseslipper Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 congratulations this is an exciting enjoy full time for you I say pray for the spirit to be with you enjoy the work you do for others inside the temple they will be so grateful for your help Quote
MacDow Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 The advice I always gave to people going to the templefor the first time is pay attention to how you feel. You have the rest if your life to gain a better understand of the ordinances and what you see inside. It is good that you are going for baptisms for your first time IMO . I hope you have a wonderful, faith promoting experience Quote
Latter Days Guy Posted May 25, 2014 Author Report Posted May 25, 2014 Had my interview this afternoon after Church and I was privileged to receive my limited-use recommend! Bishop talked me through what to expect and what I would be able to do at the Temple! I am so excited! Quote

Latter Days Guy Posted June 9, 2014 Author Report Posted June 9, 2014 Well I've been to the temple and it was amazing! Here's what I put in my blog: If that wasn't enough of a spiritual high, on Saturday I attended the Temple for the first time. A group from my ward took a coach to the Preston England Temple where I was able to do some temple work for some of my own family from my family history work. We arrived at the Temple in the rain but that didn't dampen my spirit, after a look around the distribution centre those who were to be doing baptisms and confirmations for our departed relatives gathered together and were led by our bishop up to the Temple itself. We walked through the immaculately kept gardens and then the Temple was finally in full view. What a beautiful building this house of the Lord is! Though it took three hours to get there it now didn't seem that long to finally be able to enter the holy ground of the Temple! We gathered together and after some final instructions we were taken into the Temple itself. I immediately felt that tingling feeling wash over me as I entered into one of Heavenly Fathers sacred places. It was almost over whelming the feeling of the presence of the Lord. The building is furnished to such a high standard, with paintings of scenes from many scriptural sources depicted. We were taken through the Temple to the baptistery and then given our white baptismal clothing to change into. We then had a brief talk and sang a hymn and a prayer before we were seated before the most exquisite baptistery I had ever seen. It was a lot bigger than I had envisaged and all decked out in the most marvellous marble. The twelve oxen which stood below the baptistery were awesome in their beauty, it was a truly marvellous place to come to do the work of the Lord on behalf of our dearly departed relatives. We left after completing our sacred ordinances and gathered together on the coach for a final word of prayer before returning home. It had been a most uplifting and humbling experience, even though we had risen very early and would be returning home late I didn't feel the slightest bit tired. I was how ever filled peace and joy at having had such an amazing encounter with the living God! skippy740, Traveler and pam 3 Quote
