Let me paint a scenario that might help me make the case for limited, targeted efforts to recruit employees of particular subgroups.  Imagine a community that is 75% LDS, but one in which the school teachers/administrators/board members were 95% Evangelical Christian, and where only 5% of the teachers were LDS.  Then imagine that there were reports of students being told to leave the BoMs, their triples, their CTR rings, etc. at home, since they were tantamount to proselytizing.  A parent meets with a school administrator, and is told his child is disrupting the learning environment, because he chatted with a classmate about how he might consider reading the BoM for himself.  A school board meeting is called, and the parent mentions the problem.  A school board member says that they really have no interest in hearing about how minority religions are struggling to fit in to the schools (recall the community is 75% LDS).  Then, the child stands up and says, "My religion is the majority in this community!"  Immediately armed school security officers escort the child out of the meeting.  The next day s/he is suspended for threatening and disorderly conduct.

Are you sure it would not have helped if the school had a higher percentage of LDS teachers and employees?

Many years ago, when my ambition was to become a police officer, I remember how stunned I was when San Francisco announced that it would require the next ENTIRE police academy class to be composed of homosexuals!

I have a question:

Why was it wrong for Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich to practice racial discrimination, but it's somehow okay if our own United States of America uses its guns to FORCE us to accept racial discrimination?

Perhaps, but lack of LDS representation isn't the root of the problem, the problem is the bias against the LDS faith, intentially hiring LDS teachers in lieu of more qualified evqngelical teachers will only serve to increase tensions.

The interesting thing in a lot of these discussions is when you ask Wilson's critics what he should have done once Brown started hitting him; because nearly every one of their answers boils down to something along the lines of "he should have kept taking hits".

Until when? Until he was disabled for life? Until he was dead?

Gotta love those Monday-morning quarterbacks who think they know more about the situation than those who were in the situation.

Been there, Done that.

When it is necessary to use deadly force, you aim for center of mass and continue shooting until the subject is down and no longer moving.

Only in ridiculous Hollywood movies do heroes deliberately wound their opponent, or shoot the gun out of their hand.

When facing a police officer or a soldier, if there's any resemblance of any kind of weapon in your hand, you will immediately be killed, as they shoot first and investigate later.

You do NOT fire a warning shot.

You NEVER fire your weapon into the air, i.e., what goes up must come down - - - somewhere?

A subject who does not have a gun in sight can still be considered a deadly threat, i.e., people can be and have been killed by bare fists, sticks, rocks, and knives.

The United States Army taught me how to kill without using a firearm, so I know there's LOTS of veterans out there with that same skill and training.

This stuff has nothing to do with race, sex, or ethnicity.

It's just plain common sense.

You play by the rules or you die.

Well, one thing's certain... If the cop would've died, there wouldn't be riots in ferguson...

Lack of LDS representation may not have been the root cause, but it may be part of the root solution.  It's harder to hate people you interact with regularly.  It's also harder to dismiss student beliefs if some of your colleagues do the same.

Hmmm...maybe we need limited, targeted employment of social conservatives in education.  :-)  http://www.thecollegefix.com/post/16991/

Seriously?  There was no evidence to support an indictment.  I pray you never sit in a jury box.

I agree with you......all that kid had to do was get out of the street when first asked by the officer and if he had done that all of us would be talking about something different today. That officer did nothing wrong in my opinion.
