Guest Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 Safe and accounted for! My neighborhood has not experienced flooding yet and is not expected to. Quote
Guest Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 I will admit all the stuff going on is a little freaky. Quote
Guest Godless Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 Fine here. Rained all weekend and there were some modest wind gusts, but nothing too serious. We had stocked up on canned goods on Friday in case the power went out. That stuff is going to be donated first thing tomorrow to be sent to Houston and other coastal areas. Quote
Ironhold Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 Far enough north that it's just a rainy weekend. But some of the local gas stations are running out because they weren't able to get their shipments in time. LoudLizard, Midwest LDS and Sunday21 2 1 Quote
pam Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 I have a friend who lives in Houston. He reported that his neighborhood is not flooded but.....the major problem they are having is feral hogs eating up their yards. He posted a video of probably a dozen out in his yard just tearing it up. LoudLizard and seashmore 1 1 Quote
Sunday21 Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 (edited) I had no idea that feral hogs were a thing! http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/02/21/hunters-fight-so-called-feral-hog-apocalypse-in-texas.html Edited August 28, 2017 by Sunday21 Quote
Still_Small_Voice Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 I have watched footage of people going out on helicopters in Texas and shooting dozens of wild feral hogs with rifles in one flight. Even with this type of attempted control they are still not able to get a handle on the situation down there (atleast from what I have read). Wild hogs also attack people sometimes. We had that problem too. I was able to fill up just fine Friday morning, but my wife had to try four gas stations before finding one with gas that evening. Quote

I didn't realize that feral pigs were such a problem but apparently these pigs are really destructive! LoudLizard 1 Quote
Still_Small_Voice Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 This is one of the reasons why I do not like letting my gasoline tank get below half level in our cars. I try to keep them over half full. In a bad situation like this if the gasoline stations run out you may not have gasoline for your car and lose your ability to travel. It is a way of laying up in store. seashmore and Sunday21 2 Quote
anatess2 Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 Some of my family is stranded at home. They don't have jetskis/boats to get to the main road. LoudLizard 1 Quote

Guest Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 Hi, guys. Checking in. We always have flooding on our property whenever there is a major storm. And this one has been fairly mild as floods go. The neighbor's tree fell down and broke a power line. We're without power. The power company is backed up and is trying to get to the greatest threat areas first. We're far down on the list when only one neighborhood block is affected. We're trying to figure out what to do with our food in the fridge and freezer. We're very heavy into prepping, so, we're better off than most. But it is interesting the little things that you never consider when you plan for these events. Without power, we don't have a well. With a flood, our septic is unpredictable. Bathroom, sink, trash, etc. are big things. We've got about 500 gals of water but we also have another family staying with us who were in a flooded area. They may lose their homes. So, pray for them. With that 500 gals, I figure we've got about a week at most. So, depending on how long it takes for the power company... But we've got a ward emergency prep squad that is top notch. We've got plenty of gasoline. So, as long as we can travel, we'll be able to find someone around the area to stay with. Now I've got to contact my clients. Cheers. Quote
zil Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 Sorry for the trials, @Carborendum. Glad you're safe. Will continue praying for you and your family, friends, and neighbors! Sunday21 1 Quote
Still_Small_Voice Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 I was just watching the flooding Texas footage on the news. It is horrible. Is there a specific church fund that can be donated to for Texas relief? Quote

Yeah; anything less than .45 or a heavy-gauge shotgun slug and you're wasting ammo. That's how tough they are. Hence why hunting from air had to be legalized in order to help safely cull the numbers. seashmore 1 Quote

classylady Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 My cousin lives in Sugar Land (just south of Houston). She is under mandatory evacuation. They moved most of their furniture and other items of value from the main level to the second floor. Their house hasn't been flooded yet, but their street has some water on it. Behind their house is a drainage canal/bayou that could flood. They drove to their daughter's home, about 10 miles away. If they have to leave there, they are looking for routes out of Houston to go north. It's difficult to get out with many major roads flooded. seashmore 1 Quote
