Dads vs. Moms

My daughter recently discovered a love for Babybel* cheese. The following conversation took place earlier today.

Daughter: How many Babybel cheeses could I get for my immortal soul?
Mama: Sweetie, there are not enough Babybel cheeses in the world, past, present, and future, to ever buy your immortal soul.
Daddy: You could get at least a couple dozen.

*Pronounced "Bobby-bell", at least in the Vort household.

Quote

In Robert Bolt’s A Man for All Seasons, Sir Thomas More is soon to be martyred, partly because his friend Rich, having been bought off by a local office, has betrayed him. More, “looking into Rich’s face, with pain and amusement,” speaks: “For Wales? Why, Richard, it profits a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world … But for Wales!” (A Man for All Seasons [1960], 92)

Isn't it interesting that Thomas More had no problem trying to stop others from following their conscience-by burning books written by Protestants, the Tyndale Bible, and his (at the very least) looking the other way when Protestants got tortured and executed for following their conscience-but has now become a martyr for those that give their life for following their conscience?

Because I think it's interesting.

He's a fraud. One of histories biggest PR stories.

It's always a bad idea to look at the 16th century through the eyes of a 21st century man.

The people who call More a fraud is just as silly as the people who gave him glowing PR.  More was a defender of the faith - exacting criminal penalties when the faith was tied to the realm as was the belief and the LAW of his time.  More remained a defender of the faith when the realm fell away from it.  And he died for it.  It's as simple as that.  And for that martyrdom, he was canonized a Catholic Saint.

Interesting that More is a defender of the faith but not Luther or Tyndale

It's not interesting, it's obvious. Do you really think that the Catholic Church will declare either Tyndale or Luther "Defenders of the Faith?"

Hah hah.  It would be funny to think that the person who wrote the manifesto that caused the Protestant schism would be hailed by the Catholic Church as a defender of the faith.  It would be like President Nelson hailing Snuffer as a defender of the restored gospel.
