Vort Posted April 14, 2020 Report Posted April 14, 2020 I'd rather watch PG-13 than ever watch an R, 'Cause PG-13 films don't leave as deep a moral scar. I'd rather watch PG than PG-13 films, by far, 'Cause PG's close to G, while PG-13's almost R. Unknown NeedleinA and NeuroTypical 1 1 Quote
NeuroTypical Posted April 14, 2020 Report Posted April 14, 2020 Far superior in every measurable way, to the Disney fan remix I just saw about Belle wandering around town ignoring social distancing and spreading the COVID virus. Quote

Though, back when my kids were growing up there were many PG movies that were bad (nudity, swear words, graphic violence). G was normally a completely different level. Some of the PG movies today seem tamer than they used to be several decades ago. I'm not sure why some movies that may have been rated G many years ago are rated PG these days, or why some PG movies from years ago were rated PG when I would have rated them R myself. I think Milton Berle died before the ratings changes occurred (where some things that would have been rated G years ago are not more a PG rating today, though not all PG movies meet that effect, and there are a few G rated movies that come out occasionally) so not sure when he said that, but interesting statement nonetheless. Berle said: I'd rather be a 'could-be' if I cannot be an 'are' Because a 'could-be' is a 'maybe' who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a 'has-been' than a 'might-have-been' by far; For a 'might-have-been' has never been, but a 'has' was once an 'are'. brotherofJared and JohnsonJones 2 Quote

It always confused me why some of the 70's and 80's movies were rated PG but definitely weren't PG to our standards today. Turns out the PG-13 rating didn't exist until 1984 so PG allowed for a whole lot more bad content than it does today. I believe Red Dawn was the first movie shown with a PG-13 rating. Quote
Traveler Posted April 16, 2020 Report Posted April 16, 2020 I have my own rating system - If Hollywood gives an award to a movie - I don't watch it. The Traveler SilentOne 1 Quote
Nordic saint Posted April 17, 2020 Report Posted April 17, 2020 Personally I'm very careful about what I watch no matter the rating. I was invited to watch a movie in the cinema with a G rating with my sister, and I thought "well, can't do any harm watching a "childish" movie. Well... It contained sex scenes (and of course, it was adultery just to make it even worse), full body nude scenes and heated up homosexual scenes... Let's just say that I still haven't fully recovered. Moral of the story: even though this is an extreme case, it shows that just because a movie has a certain label, you never really know if it has been made so that The Lord would approve it. Parental guides and alike are still the best guidelines for whether the movie reflects your standards or not JohnsonJones 1 Quote
