Ironhold Posted May 5, 2020 Report Posted May 5, 2020 https://lethbridgenewsnow.com/2020/05/04/star-wars-day-promotion-goes-awry-after-lps-arrests-employee-in-stormtrooper-costume/ (note: the footage of the incident contains uncensored language) Police in Alberta are having to explain themselves after they drew guns on a cantina employee who was dressed as a Star Wars Storm Trooper for May 4th. They're saying that someone called in saying there was a person with a gun and that they had to get physical because the person was "non-compliant", but witnesses are saying that the cops did nothing to investigate or de-escalate and that the employee said the costume was restricting her range of motion. There's the implication that the employee and cantina will both consider legal action, and for obvious reasons it's started a debate among the cosplay community. Quote

JohnsonJones Posted May 6, 2020 Report Posted May 6, 2020 I'm not really a fan of Star Wars but it's perpetuated society enough that even I know that type of costume pretty well. After inspecting the toy gun they should have laughed it off and gone their way. Either that or they really take Star Wars too seriously and thought they were apprehending a soldier of the Empire. I can see no reason to tackle a person in a Star Wars costume. Even if they thought the gun was real (it actually looks like one of the Storm trooper blasters that they have that go with these types of costumes), after taking one look at it (unless police have no training in what firearms actually look like in that city, in which case they shouldn't be in possession of firearms themselves) they should have realized their mistake. After inspecting it...even more so. Quote

prisonchaplain Posted May 6, 2020 Report Posted May 6, 2020 Next thing you know, they'll be issuing $500 tickets to those attending drive-in church services. Oh, wait . . . Colirio 1 Quote
Emmanuel Goldstein Posted May 7, 2020 Report Posted May 7, 2020 That girl should sue the police for breach of the public trust. Pathetic. Quote
