NeuroTypical Posted July 20, 2023 Report Posted July 20, 2023 I was there during the Reagan years, but was still being raised by my blue dog union democrat father, and it would be a while before I grew to think and experience my way into my eventual alliance with free-market right-wing conservatism. It wasn't until YouTube showed up, that I was able to experience all that Reagan was and stood for. I miss him. We need another like him. LDSGator and pam 2 Quote

LDSGator Posted July 20, 2023 Report Posted July 20, 2023 Reagan won the Cold War without firing a single shot. The man deserves a Nobel Prize but will never get one. He’s also one of the main reasons why I’m a republican. I could go on. mirkwood, Still_Small_Voice and pam 3 Quote

Traveler Posted July 24, 2023 Report Posted July 24, 2023 (edited) I left the Republican party during the Nixon era – partly but not mainly because of Nixon but mostly because of the vast corruption of the Republican party leaders (both local and national). I tried desperately to be a Democrat but found that party exponentially more corrupt. Unfortunately, in this country there will be nothing changed politically that is not ratified by the party leaders of the democratic and/or republican parties. I also discovered back in the same era that the mainstream media is corrupt and willing to lie in support of social engineering and political entanglements. Over time the reporting of the news has, in my mind, appeared to become even more corrupted with political agendas – including Fox News. I voted for Trump because I believe he would disclose the corruption of our government. I believe the corruption we now know about is only a tip of an iceberg. I will not vote for Trump again. Obviously, he cannot form a lasting and significant alliance with anyone in government service. I do not think he even desires to have a team in place – and I do not believe any individual can handle the scope of corruption regardless of how great or smart they think they are. The more I listen to Robert Kennedy Jr – the more I think he may be as good a leader for this country as a lot of republicans think Ragan was. Too bad the democrats are so sold out to Biden and the democratic factory machine. This is the "damned if you do, damned if you don't" dilemma that socially/economically conservative would-be Republicans have. It's hard to vote Republican in good conscience, at least until you see what the Democrats offer. 1 minute ago, Traveler said: I voted for Trump because I believe he would disclose the corruption of our government. I did not vote for Trump in 2016, and for exactly that reason—I thought he was corrupt and that his taint would corrupt the government. I was astounded to see that it was the media corrupting the process, openly and without shame, with Trump often seemingly taking the role of white knight. Astounded, but somehow not overly surprised, if that makes any sense at all. I voted for Trump in 2020 with some enthusiasm, and if he wins the Republican nomination, I will almost certainly vote for him next year. mirkwood and Traveler 1 1 Quote

That sums why I’m still a republican too. Sure, they have massive problems. But it’s still slightly better then the alternative. It’s also sort of fun to be a nonTrumper republican.
