Gore was a fool, but he did the right thing in the end

I feel the same way about Nixon. He got caught doing something every politician has done before (you delude yourself if you think otherwise)-but at least he had the integrity to resign and not drag the nation through more drama.

This is truly sad.

Even the media is completely unenthusiastic about the nomination.

Since when do reporters give speakers applause at press conferences? I think it'd be more weird if they DID clap. Then you'd have Trump writing all-caps posts on Truth Social about how the media applauded Kamala, SOMETHING THAT'S NEVER HAPPENED IN THE HISTORY OF PRESS CONFERENCES! THE FAKE NEWS MEDIA IS CROWNING HER AS THEIR DEI QUEEN AND SHOWING THE TRUE EXTENT OF THEIR HATRED TOWARDS YOUR FAVORITE PRESIDENT! SAD!

Chuck Schumer is the weird one in this video, tbh. He should be talking like that in front of the DNC, not a bunch of Capitol Hill beat reporters.

You know what?  That is a pretty good point.  I know it has happened.  But it is extremely rare.

Yup, Schumer was the weird one.

"Now Watergate does not bother me. Does your conscience bother you? Now tell the truth." - Lynyrd Skynyrd, "Sweet Home Alabama"

A number of people who voted for Nixon did so because they believed he would somehow serve to curb the power of the Southern Democrats, the main political force still in favor of segregationist policies. That line in the song was the band taunting these individuals and asking how that was working out for them.

Yup.

I hate that band.

Interesting how the left and the right can interpret the exact same conditions so differently.  Look at these headlines that appeared the same day.

Over $100M raised in under a week is pretty impressive any way you slice it. The media didn't do that.

She’s got the momentum. Like or not, Trump has been over exposed and Kamala is the new, fresh thing. Trump fatigue is a real thing, Kamala fatigue is not.

Well, the usual donors had stopped donating to Biden a month ago.  Part of the mass-revolt that was necessary to get him to step down.  So they're back up and running with a viable candidate now.

It'll be nice to see the Harris/Trump debates.  It would be very nice to see more of the measured and reasonable Trump from the last debate, and less of the old school rude insulting shouting-over civility-breaking Trump from all his other debates.  A guy can hope.

It would be weird if Harris played centrist and went after disillusioned conservatives.  Not sure how effective it would be, but it would certainly be remarkable.

If it's ok with y'all, I'll remain mad at Desantis for another year or two.  "You should vote for me, because I'm basically Trump, with all the same energy and strength and policies and goals, except I won't form mobs, and I'm 30 years younger."   All he had to say, dang it!

I'd normally agree with you.  But I was about to say what NT posted.  Then I read his post and thought it was redundant.

Huh.   Former military, former A+ NRA rating (before he turned and ticked 'em off), "cool dad who knows how to go viral"?

Weird.

I know true believers will be happy about the pick, but I don’t get it. She was going to win Minnesota anyway. That, and no NRA member is going to vote for her.

Again, I’m not talking to the true blue leftists. She could have chosen a peanut butter sandwich and they’d be in awe of her brilliance.

He's a cat-loving miltary veteran and a former teacher who legalized weed, implemented free school lunches, passed PFML, and signed an anti-junk fee bill named after a Taylor Swift album. The whole "GOP is weird" shtick that Dems have been flooding the airwaves with? Walz started that. He has strong appeal over a wide range of demographics, and he's everything J.D. Vance pretends to be. He's the perfect white dude to grab swing voters without compromising on progressive issues.

I agree with a lot of what he did-legalizing weed, being one of the first teachers to have an LGBT-straight alliance…all that. However, I hate cats.  The left also uses the military how the right uses religious people. Openly they respect them, behind closed doors they mock them.  I also agree that JD Vance is creepy. I’m almost certainly going libertarian this cycle.

But I have to be honest. If she picked virtually anyone the left would celebrate. So Walz is just one of the usual suspects to me.

I disagree. I think the reverse is true. Democrats have a far better voting record on veteran issues than the GOP. Every roadblock the Pact Act faced came from GOP obstruction.

This pick wasn't for the left. It was for union workers in the rust belt and white suburban moderates. Walz is the perfect pick for the Midwest Middle, so to speak.

Yeah, I see it totally differently. All those jokes about military members during the Iraq War didn’t come from Tim Allen. Also, democrats wanted to defund the troops back then. And, in my private conversations with leftists they seem to have disdain for soldiers. I’m assuring you that if Trump started a war, the same thing would happen. So we are miles apart here.

Again, I see it vastly differently. The “midwestern middle” isn’t as liberal he is. He’s a Tom Harkin liberal and proud of it-which is fine with me. He should be a proud liberal, just like Mike Lee is a proud conservative.

By the way, it doesn't take a smart person to understand that Trump supporters are nanoseconds away from making "weird" a reclaimed slur.  There's money to be made, but right now all I'm seeing is this:

"Keep Austin Weird" is already an advertising slogan for the city of Austin, Texas, and so given how deeply blue the city is it's hypocritical for the Democrats to use that as an insult.

Aaaaaand, a rather nasty notion gets floated, hiding under the thin veil of multilayered sarcasm.   Vance should not be "left alone with your 14 year old niece"?   Nasty, vile accusation.   The kind that should be defended with evidence, or abandoned and apologized for.  I doubt the dozen rats who made the post even gave the horribleness of the accusation a seconds thought.

I've valued weird for a long time.  Proud to have raised weird kids.  I'm really not interested in handing over the word to progressives so they can change the meaning into something vile.

Oh, and hey - how about that!  I knew it wouldn't take long:

Lets talk about weird republicans by looking at Trump executive efforts:

1 Establish the rule of law – requiring government agencies to follow the law (especially at the border).

2 Establish sanctions on the assets of countries sponsoring terrorism.

3 Establish domestic and friendly supply chain needs for essential and rare earth elements.

4 Promote protection and safety of government property (monuments, statues, building, land, parks and other such things) from criminal destruction and abuse.

Compare against the current administration weird efforts:

1 Abolish the rule of law concerning illegal immigration.  Especially the tracking of women and children possibly under cartel control of (human trafficking which is in essence a soft term for slavery)

2 End sanctions against the terrorist state of Iran. (This along with backing out of Abraham Accords which has resulted in war in the Middle East with the possibility of igniting nuclear war – also with bringing the world closer to nuclear war by withholding war supplies from Ukraine until after Russia invaded Ukraine.)

3 Halting mining and drilling in the USA of essential and rare earth elements causing vast increases in costs of energy and medical supplies.

4 Promoting the destruction and safety of government property through sanctioning criminal behaviors during political demonstrations leaning left (calling them “mostly” peaceful).
