I think zil makes a good point. What does her support look like? It’s easy to say you will support while secretly hoping you will leave the church. And she may be agreeing to marriage because she sees you are already half way out the door. When someone sees an attitude that exaltation is worth giving up, it’s easy to use subtle manipulations to drive you further away from the church. I would encourage you to take your time on this decision. It warrants a great degree of thoughtfulness.

Connie got a reaction from Sunday21 in Coincidence or Symbolism?
I remember when I first learned about this as a young woman just out of high school. I had the same reaction as your wife.

It didn't work for me either. That's pretty much what I felt was wrong with it... that he was so busy trying to push his agenda or make some great philosophical point that he didn't even really bother telling the story.
No problem. I hope you enjoy it. I thought it was really interesting and would love to hear your thoughts about it when you've finished.

I'm actually an MBA with a background in marketing.
Between that and my time on the job as a movie reviewer, the official promotional material for "Wrinkle" sent up all sorts of red flags. This included the focus on the big-name celebs and the race & gender of the director as opposed to any sort of focus on the movie's plot or writing.
Something like that is rarely a good sign.

I haven't read that one. I'll have to give it a go sometime.

Have a bookmark in this now. My first exposure to it was a book on cd from the library that I listened to while at work. Took me almost the whole two-week lending period to get through it, but I enjoyed it enough to want to pick it up and actually read it. I'm a slow reader, so it'll take me a year to finish it, but I enjoy it.
I'm almost finished with this season's reread of Willa Cather's "O! Pioneers." Always enlightening and quoteable.

Recently finished Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, which I liked more than I thought I would, and Whatever Happened to Faith by Robert Millet, which is a great book.

It was a moral related loss of respect. The book was good. Agreed, not as good as the first two, particularly the second. But he's a moron for randomly, nonsensically, making one of the bridge 4 soldiers gay. It's so obviously a 'gay is ok' political statement, which might be moderately innocuous if it wasn't from a fellow saint who has as one of his primary market bases young, impressionable, and often LDS youth.

Never would have finished it if I wasn't listening to the audiobook.
Honestly, she got so whiny toward the end, it was kind of a relief. (I probably shouldn't say things like that)

"Little Britches, Father and I were Ranchers" by Ralph Moody
Only a few conference talks and the Family Proclamation have inspired me as much to be a better father.

Just finished “Wilford Woodriff’s Witness: The Development of Temple Doctrine” by Jennifer Mackley. Lots of great nuggets, though parts got repetitive and at some points one got the distinct impression that the author wasn’t quite saying everything she knew. Still, I’d recommend it—among other things, it’s the only book I can remember seeing carried by Deseret Book that directly talks about the Second Anointing.
Now about 1/5 of the way into Michael Austin’s “Rereading Job: Understanding the Ancient World’s Greatest Poem”; which is a surprisingly brisk and engaging read.

Ha! I'm debating whether I should bother watching the movie or not. I'm guessing it's special effects are pretty cheesy.

Connie got a reaction from Sunday21 in Why don't I feel the Spirit at all?
There is nothing wrong with you per se. Obviously, I don’t know why you are not feeling anything, but it is completely normal. Probably everyone on this forum has had the experience of not being able to feel the Spirit. I know I have.
The older I get, the faster time seems to go. One month is very short. Please don’t give up.
“…that great morning of forgiveness may not come all at once. If at first you stumble, do not give up. Overcoming discouragement is part of the test. Do not give up. And as I have counseled before, once you have confessed and forsaken your sins, do not look back.” -Pres. Boyd K. Packer (link: https://www.lds.org/ensign/2015/04/the-saviors-selfless-and-sacred-sacrifice?lang=eng)

Yerba mate. It sounds like something nasty tasting from Australia... like veggie mite, yuck.

Just finished The Lord’s Way by Dallin H. Oaks. That should probably be required reading for LDS members. It takes different topics (such as learning, criticism, litigation and contention), comparing and contrasting the Lord’s way versus the world’s way. It is very enlightening and relevant to our day.
