  1. There are two Stake conferences per year, as well as two General conferences. There are 52 weeks in a year, and 48 lessons in the manual. You do the math. You shouldn't have to skip anything.
  2. Your mother is fundamentally immature. It's no wonder her and your father fight a lot. As a parent myself, I love my children and never wanted any of them to get married and leave the house. But as a mature adult, I realize its part of life, and GROWTH for them. It's selfish and fundamentally immature to want anything else than complete independence on one's children's part. That's why we raise them-to go it alone at some point. I won't be here forever.
  3. Wow! I take a couple of days off and the thread takes life! I don't regard an inter religious marraige as a "little" thing. In fact I think it's a very big deal, paticularly if both parties are religious and true to their own religion. There are enough problems in marraige so why bring as big a deal as opposite faiths into the mix? When the children come opinions as to raising them can only add more divisiveness. I've been married almost 40 years, and from experience can tell you, it's not theory but real life.
  4. In the Old Testament it refers to Jehovah, which in Mormon theology is the Christ. Also in Mormon theology the Father is above the Son, at least in seniority, a well as being above the Holy Ghost, who does not yet have a body. I would say that the term Almighty God depends on the context in which it is used.
  5. It can work, but you're fighting the odds. Very long ones I may add. Why add this friction to marraige? It's tough enough as it is.
  6. [quote name=MisterE;588047 My question is: if I am trying as hard as I can to pursue an eternal marriage' date=' but am unsuccessful, will the Lord punish me? What do you think? NO
  7. The Church's view about the end of times, is that we are in the "last days". Prophecies about the last days have been and are being fulfilled.
  8. Have you taken her to a doctor?? There could be a serious medical problem. Hard for me to believe that there is a "chonic" cough that's not serious.
  9. Last September when we were out of town on vacation for a few weeks, we had a change in Bishopric. It came as a total surprise because I thought that the last bishop we had would have been the last also for this ward. We have no youth program, there's only one quorum I believe along with a few young women, and less than 100 attend sacrament meeting. It's painful to see all the shuffling the current bishop has to do. We are really about the size of a branch. And a not very large one at that!
  10. When one considers the totality of what we know about the second coming, I believe this (nuclear war) to be highly unlikely. Remember, the gospel will roll forth and fill the whole world. This is not very likely in a post holocaust environment. My personal belief is that the world will continue to get more liberal as we have since the invention of modern communications (the printing press). Until all the nations will be cut down as we know them now. In our halting way, the prophecy of Daniel is being surely but slowly fulfilled. One hundred years ago Europe was almost totally monarchist, and last century fought two of the most destructive wars in human history. Look at Europe now. The EU is strong and getting stronger. Not much chance of war anymore. I believe this pattern will be repeated in all regions of the world in preparation of the second coming. That is the only way that the Gospel will have a chance to be preached to all the world, and God's order established. To accomplish the above, of course war is unfortunately necessary, hence "wars and rumors of wars". But a lot of evil gets destroyed in war too........................
  11. Joseph Smith was a man, and made of course a lot of human errors. he was far from perfect in all his decisions. But when you look at the Gospel he revealed to us by the power of God, he must have only been a prophet. This Gospel has stood the test of time, and the more one understands the Holy Scripture, the more one understands that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints can be the only true church in all the world.
  12. I would bite the bullet and repent at a much later date, like after your family is raised etc. IMHO its much more important to keep your family intact and raise your children properly. You're right, your children would not benefit in the least, and likely would be harmed. Don't repeat your sin. "Repenting" now is almost a selfish act, because of the great harm you will cause to others in your family. Remember, you will have to compound the sin somewhat by maintaining your current level of activity. That's part of your punishment. You brought it on yourself. Later in life you can repent to a loving bishop, who will understand you motives. If you have not repeated your sin, but have lived otherwise faithful to you covenants, it's very unlikely you will even be excommunicated.
  13. We are told that Adam was perfect in his day. But he lived over 900 years!!! You and I are not going to live that long. For the average person of this generation, I think perfection is going to come in the afterlife.
  14. I would say it depends.............................................
  15. I'm a Harley rider. You know how many other Mormons are Harley riders??? Or even have a motorcycle? Not a lot.
  16. I would personally just start attending your new ward, and let that bishop take it from there. I've never really understood the policy of anchoring people to wards where maybe they are uncomfortable for any reason. Well, not totally true. I understand the concept of what the church is trying to do in theory, keeping priesthood holders together, etc etc. But I wouldn't feel bound by that. I've never regularly attended a ward where I haven't been assigned though. The situation has not arisen in my case.
  17. IMHO the Church does not want laws passed that would infringe on our rights. I'm not sure about the recent controversy of gay marraige, but we should be leery of having laws that would force the ministers of a church to perform gay or other types of marraige. Just like in the old days pre 1978 when a lot of people thought that our church should be sanctioned for not allowing black people to have the priesthood ie. people thought we were discriminatory. No one wants that sort of thing to rear its ugly head again. No one wants the church to be accused of "discriminating" against anyone by not wanting to perform a gay marraige. I believe that this is the basis of the church's opposition of so called gay marraige laws. I haven't read prop 8, but if it could conceivably lead to a scenario of being accused of discrimination, then the church would and should be against the proposed law.
  18. My daughter married a Catholic (non-practicing) and of course we have accepted her decision and treat him as part of the family now.
  19. Secrets must always be surrounded by a bodyguard of Lies. -Winston Churchill
  20. I'm sorry, Slamjet, but your head is on backwards!!!!!! I appreciate cute animals, but we're talking the event of all sporting events!!
  21. What lie has God ever told???? Inquisitive minds await......................... An omission of the truth, strictly speaking, (and you're very strict) is not a lie. God gives us truth as we can handle it. Just like one would not feed meat to a new born baby. I don't consider that even an omission of the truth.
  22. Now that I think it over, is this supposed "record" real???????
  23. Yes of course there are objective moral truths. We are taught that God cannot lie, or He would cease to be God. You are far too literal and simplistic in interpreting the 10 commandments. For example, "thou shalt not kill" is generally interpreted to mean murder or the shedding of innocent blood. There are clearly many examples of righteous "killing". For example: self defense.
  24. Well..............Hitler did have relatives. I admit it's a little shocking!
