Me too. And when I engage in discussion I like to provide Church history facts (my main interest). Personally, I don't see anything wrong with it. My problem arises when people provide OPINIONS as fact (a pet peeve of mine). I don't think there is any problem with sharing an opinion but must be stated as such.

Callings are probably 99% inspiration and 1% desperation. My sister was called as the Ward pianist. She is the ONLY person who plays the piano in her ward. Again, the ROCS (Revelation Of Common Sense) in this case.

Well, first of all I don't know how I "blew them off" as "just men" neither I said they don't have a real knowledge of human behavior (again, your interpretation is way off and we are going in circles) It seems like you are bothered at the fact that they are human. I mentioned being inspired yet it doesn't seem to be enough for you. So I would say that's your personal issue really, not mine.

Whoah....are we talking about Mormon apologetics? What's wrong with that?

Maybe it's just my personality but if I am in such situation and I am so concerned, I would talk with her (calmly of course) about it but explaining the whole situation. If she gets offended...she needs to read my signature.

1. He could well be a predator (you should check his name in your local sex offender web site and see if his name and pic appears there) 2. Maybe he has special needs? (some sort of mental issue?) Whatever it is, you need to talk with your roommate. Really it doesn't matter whether or not she gets offended, this is a safety issue.

No. My point is that it is a non-issue for ME and possibly has to do more with policy than anything else. Not every word coming out of the Prophet's mouth constitutes revelation. Hmmmm I think we need to differentiate between policies and revelations from God (and speaking on his behalf). They're not mutually inclusive. The Church has groups of people who professionally handle the "image" of the Church. The whole use of the word "Mormon" comes to mind (first the Church didn't like much the idea and tried to stick with LDS as much as they could, then they started using it back and so forth) because they have specialists in the area who advised them about it, etc. Politics. Same with correlation and with a lot of other areas...My point is, the whole issue with beards and missionaries IMO probably has to do everything with policies put in place to reach "X" point and give "X" image and little to do with what "Jesus" tells the Prophet about what He wants the missionaries to wear. I cannot speak for him of course however I believe he must be pretty busy than wondering about facial hair. So in the end, the rule is there. Those who wish to serve a mission must adhere to it like any other rule.

What I never understood about some modern miracles is why can't the sick be whole? The one who couldn't walk, can walk now with "help", the blind can see now but with "glasses" and so on...
-
Why not? One is the Prophet, the other is Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father himself. For me, is all about image and nothing more than image. I am not a fan of beards so I think it looks pretty neat to see young kids nicely shaved.

I think around 15 it's okay. Let the kid be a kid.

Dash, last time I checked General Authorities may be inspired leaders but they still men so I am not sure why you say they "know more" than individuals. Just because they have been called to serve in those positions, it doesn't make them particularly more knowledgeable about any topic than a regular member. And about knowing more about human behavior, unless we have some psychologists or sociologists as GA who have been trained to know a little more about human behavior then it's just a big assumption on your part. I think we need to be careful (generally speaking) that as we strive to listen to the counsel of our leaders, we do not think of them "over" us as more knowledgeable, more righteous, more spiritual. They are MEN. Just like you and I with great talents and lots of weaknesses.

Congratulations! :)

So you are not a member but you have a Stake calling, is that what you are saying? If so, would you mind sharing what is the calling? Thanks :)

Let me start by saying I am exhausted so maybe I am not reading this properly because my brain is kind of fried. The Stake extended you a calling even though you wasn't a member?

The truth is I do NOT make any business deals with people who I know are LDS. Sorry, but I had TERRIBLE experiences, from people trying to rip me off to people NOT wanting to pay "because we are brothers and sisters in the Gospel". After quite a few experiences I decided NOT to make business deals with members.

Do you have the quote? I would love to read it thanks.
