  1. I watched Wonder Woman with my daughter. Interesting experience: The #1 thing about the movie she loved was in the final fight scene and when Wonder Woman landed from a long, long, long jump, her thighs wiggled. And yes, she wouldn't stop talking about the realistic portrayal of a real woman's body.
  2. I don't have a ward calling I have a stake calling.
  3. I had an unpleasant experience with a friends computer and how he ignored his common sense, much to his computer's demise. It took a bit over three weeks for me to figure out how to fix his computer's issue, mainly because I was afraid of making a wrong move and making things worse. In the end, I was able to fix his system, luckily. I posted this on my Facebook and thought I'd share it here: A word of warning about and old scam that I just had to deal with. It's called the "Microsoft Phone Scam" or the "Syskey Scam." This is where Microsoft or other Tech Support call or email you to tell you they need to fix your computer by having them grant remote access to your system. What they do is lock it up by changing the system key then extort lots of money from you to fix it. And it's done on both PC's and Apple systems. A good friend fell for this and it took a few weeks of research and building intestinal fortitude to finally get access to his system, clean, and fix it (they even disabled his antivirus). Frankly, he was lucky that this scammer wasn't too sophisticated. Other ransomware scammers can make it impossible to salvage your system by encrypting the whole disk. Please be assured that NO ONE will call you about your system except bad actors. Don't ever give ANYONE access to your system. Your computer and phone holds more personal information and passwords than you realize. It goes without saying that your life will be made miserable if you get scammed. So please use your common sense, jealously guard your computer and smart phone: > DO NOT open any attachments that you are not expecting, especially ZIP attachments; > DO NOT click on links strange or funny email addresses; > DO NOT click on links in emails send from family or friends. They've been hacked and the email is phishin for systems to lock up The internet is full of traps so be smart and be safe. Here is an article from Microsoft about the scam, Here's another one from Apple, and their community board.
  4. From everything I've read thus far, it doesn't seem like a semantic issue. Consequences of choices in mortality then in the end, punishment for the non-penitent and delivery from judgement for the penitent. Yes, there is the law but we will be required to answer for breaking the law at the final judgement. It seems to me that the Atonement allows us to live in mortality without having to immediately answer the law. If that were not the case, the consequence of breaking the law is being cut off from the presence of God for eternity since one sin would make us imperfect and unable to be in His presence. With that being the case, mortality is filled with resistance and consequences all designed to further our education and character. I found this quote that was in Faith Precedes the Miracle: “No pain that we suffer, no trial that we experience is wasted. It ministers to our education, to the development of such qualities as patience, faith, fortitude and humility. All that we suffer and all that we endure, especially when we endure it patiently, builds up our characters, purifies our hearts, expands our souls, and makes us more tender and charitable, more worthy to be called the children of God … and it is through sorrow and suffering, toil and tribulation, that we gain the education that we come here to acquire and which will make us more like our Father and Mother in heaven.” It seems to boil down to God is not a failed parent. If he were, we'd all have to suffer the punishment of being cast off forever. Instead, we suffer consequences which can be a temporary state depending on our free-will. Bottom line for mortality: Society punishes, God teaches. I'm willing to accept that I may be way off the mark, but I think I'm closer to the mark than away.
  5. For me, it went like this: I take care of the A.V. for my ward (as an assignment) because I own most all of the equipment needed and I have fun playing with my "toys." So during a ward activity, the conversation with the Bishop's Second Counselor was: Counselor: We need speakers for August, are you going to be around? Me: Yes I am. BTW, what day is the activity? Counselor: Sunday Me: [thinking] Sunday, what activity is on a Sunday that they need my speakers for? [/thinking] Me: So what activity do you need speakers for? Counselor: Sacrament meeting, Me: 0_o what the heck? That was dirty. Counselor: Yes it was, *smirking* but now I know you're in town and available. *walks away* I kid you not, that's just how it went.
  6. Either one, but "B" would understand me more and not be in fantasy land.
  7. I like giving talks. Makes me think and study. Besides, I'll be the center of attention. At least I'll admit to my narcissism.
  8. I'm being threatened with having to give a talk in August and in contemplating this, I've been trying to get my head prepared for the inevitable. However, I'm having an issue with the term "punishment." In October 1980 talk, Elder Packer stated that "We may foolishly bring unhappiness and trouble, even suffering upon ourselves. These are not always to be regarded as penalties imposed by a displeased Creator. They are part of the lessons of life, part of the test." Also, in 2 Nephi 2:26 where it states that " ...save it be by the punishment of the law at the great and last day... ." I've been trying to hone in on punishments and penalties and from what I've been able to read in the scriptures, I believe it's safe to say that while in morality, there is no punishment, that is not going to happen until the time of judgement after the resurrection. So if punishment isn't technically in play while on earth, then we're not yet subject to penalties. Besides, the Atonement has answered the law which includes, for the repentant, escape from suffering punishment and penalties. So if all this being the case, what do we call the consequences of sin in mortality, suffering? Aversion therapy? Or am I totally off the mark?

  10. I was given a stake-level calling while I was excommunicated. Besides that, unless there was an issue with the youth or children, there shouldn't be any preclusion.
  11. "Quien es mas macho" now includes the face of the car you drive.
  12. My girls were easy kids and extremely good in sacrament meeting. So good, I'd have to lightly pinch their legs to get them to fuss so I could step out (especially testimony meetings, that ward had a lot of strange folks). Then we had our last two and that changed everything... no more quiet meetings.
  13. Depends... I've worked in theater and events since a teenager and was trained to do the job then consider myself lucky to get a "thank you" at the end of the gig. Stage crew and tech folks don't have fragile ego's like actors. I get really uncomfortable whenever I get thanked publicly, especially when they over-do it. If that happens, I'll ask them to let me do the job then after it's done, shake my hand and say thank you. That's all I need. But some just won't do that I guess because of some ingrained something that if one does not get a ton of praise and thanks, one becomes offended. Best to keep those who need tons of praise away from me, because I don't play that.
  14. I kind-of sort-of have one from last week... I like to pull the rug out from under my kids so this past weekend I was having dinner with one of my daughters when she told me about her scheme to DJ a dance for her YSA ward (seems the Bishop said the ward couldn't afford renting a DJ). As a part of her scheme, she asked if she can use my audio equipment to which I immediately answered "no, I don't let anyone, ANYONE borrow my equipment." So, because she's my little girl, she easily roped me into her scheme. In any case, I asked her what she thought I'd do if I witnessed some young man flirting or dancing too close to her? She said I'd probably pound the dude. My answer - "I wouldn't do a thing." She stared at me for at least three minutes trying to figure out if I was really serious.
  15. Did someone mention Dan Peterson? Here you go: Interpreter - A Journal of Mormon Scripture (Scripture Roundtable)
  16. First time in a movie theater in over 5 years - I just saw Star Wars tonight with my daughter, AWESOME! Need to go see it again.
  17. Got cash and bonuses and bought myself this: plus a few accessories to go with it.
  18. So much I want to say, all of it I'm sure his wife has told him.
  19. Let me take this opportunity to do my annual... BAH HUMBUG! But hey, keep the treats coming.
  20. Odd class, odd person, a lot of things are odd here
  21. How about this - The "holidays" were created for two purposes, both because of the winter season: 1) Back in the old days, people always got the "blues" during winter because of the lack of sunshine. In order to help them cope, they created celebrations, a time of gathering and festivities to lift the spirit. In other words, they needed something to combat seasonal depression. 2) Before the invention of refrigeration, preservation, and because of the cold and wetness of the season, foods could not be dried or preserved so it tended to go bad quicker. To avoid loosing all this food, celebrations were created, a time to gather and festivities to serve, share, and partake of the extra food that would have otherwise gone bad. So yea, paganism, but how about pagan celebrations that had a practical value to them. I dunno, seems to make sense to me.
  22. Today is a day where I say to myself "The church is true but the members leave a lot to be desired." This past week I began to notice that there are three people talking to me, but not talking to each other. So when I met up with my EQ Pres for dinner (he was batching it so we did a Tommy's run), I vented to him. Then he said the magic phrase "My wife already hired a DJ last week." SO... Today I hunted down the person whom he told me was in charge and talked to her. Yes, there was a DJ hired for a week already. There are times where I just don't want to show up anymore because of this type of garbage. But then, religion isn't suppose to be all tingly and exciting for 24/7, and this is a church full of imperfect souls, so I trudge on, dealing with people, heaven help me I hate it so.
