President Uchtdorf's Saturday morning conference address
Sunday21 replied to askandanswer's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
We are one of those wards where everyone has many callings. When people give their farewell talks, they say they have never had so many callings. Maybe as a result, visiting teaching and home teaching are rarely done here or I should say, a very few are diligent and most people just give up. I am including members of the bishopric. -
Any good ideas for giving church lessons?
Sunday21 replied to Sunday21's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
The sisters in my ward love discussion groups. I think because 1/2 of us have limited English and so it is easier to follow the English of one or two sisters speaking very slowly and carefully so that you can understand at close quarters. Also because so many of the sisters are socially isolated due to poor English skills this is a chance to be close to others. -
I really like the buzz groups idea outlined in "teaching no greater call", you organize the class into groups and once the groups have discussed, someone in the group reports the group's findings.

I'm going to put together a centerpiece for my lesson

Good job! Pat on the back to you! I find things go better if I pray do before beginning to prepare the lesson. Funny how that is! -
I'm going to put together a centerpiece for my lesson
Sunday21 replied to Backroads's topic in Relief Society
So how did the lesson go? I gave a relief society lesson from a conference talk today. Everyone hates to prepare these so I get them. It went ok. "The joy of living a Christ-centered life". Lots of participation! I worried about how to teach it for 2 months! -
Sorry this happened to you. This sucks. We were talking about having a dress code at work. One of my colleagues protested and said, "you don't want to look like a bunch of Mormons". Another colleague assured me that Mormons never change their underwear. (My guess is that this has something to do with garments) and that Mormon women are trained not to like sex. His evidence for this? That we have so many children. Non sequitur!

President Uchtdorf's Saturday morning conference address
Sunday21 replied to askandanswer's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
The endless round of: 1) relief society activities, come craft, learn about safety plans, make treats, etc 2) single adult activities, drive 4 hours to hear a talk, attend a dance, 3) ward picnics, linger longers. These things are fine for those who work 8 hour shifts, 5 days a week but not for people who work 6 day weeks and longer hours. Also organizers need to remember that such events are optional. It is fine to invite people. When you are pressuring people to attend events because you put time into organizing them, you are going too far. If people are not attending your events, have fewer events. If someone does not attend your event, it is not ok to track them down and ask why they missed the event! -

Very happy for you. You will make some great friends! -
Your colleague was a lovely human being. I am so sorry that this terrible event took place.

Is anyone familiar with a book that compiles supporting evidence for the Book of Mormon? If not, could someone out there please write one? I am reading Michael Ash's shaken faith syndrome, very interesting except for a lengthy section that drones on about how mean critics are to moron defenders of the faith - true no doubt but consider the source. if they were nice people they would out doing doing good works, rather than throwing stones. if they were mentally stable, they would invest their time more profitably elsewhere. Any how, my point, and yes I do have one, is that, Ash refers to a variety of evidences for the Book of Mormon: tlinguistic parallels, place names, peoples' names, in the book of Mormon. It sure would be great to read a book that compiled these evidences. Anyone feel like writing such a book? For Christmas, if you are not too busy. Thanks!

I agree with above. A great day when my father left. -

Update on Wanting to Leave Marriage

This man sounds like an unfit parent. I do not like the sound of this guy. Can you get a blessing or go to the temple? This guy sounds like an accident waiting to happen - an angry man. -
So sorry. This must hurt!

I was once asked to give a talk and remind the members that it is our duty to vote. Maybe this duty is spelt out in a handbook somewhere?

Dear Doriette, I hope you find someone nice! You deserve to find a sweetheart! Good luck

Would you buy a lottery ticket? A lottery ticket to support a hospital? A raffle ticket to support a daycare? What if your child had been ordered by their school to sell raffle tickets?

My verse from 1 Nephi. I will go and do the things that the Lord has commanded because I know that the Lord does not give commandments unto the children of men without preparing a way that they may fulfill the commandments. Obeying the commandments often looks impossible. Thee reasons, Satan and obeying commandments without God's help sometimes IS Impossible. Also sometimes obeying commandments involves making choices, Eve and the apple, Nephi and killing Laban. You need the help of the Holy Ghost to help you make the right choice.

I love these verses. In part because this is a form of understanding that is hidden from the world. Why humility is good for you?Maybe this should be a separate thread? If you are not humble, you will not look for more answers. Reverence invites revealation. Humility causes you to earnestly turn to G-d.

We did the marathon too. Same bookmark! My bishop said that the ward would reap blessings if we completed. I and others did it. I hope someone in the ward was blessed!

My mother and her friend used to have a hobby. They visited 'open houses'. When you want to sell your home, you have an open house and perspective buyers come to take a look. The sign on the front lawn indicates that there is an open house and you are allowed to enter and look at the house. The owners go away for the day and a realtor looks after the house. One day, my mother and her friend went to visit an open house. They were, as was their habit, making loud and unfair able comments about the home, the home owners and the home owner's taste in decor. In fact, my mother had her head in a kitchen cupboard checking out the cereal collection and was declaiming loudly when...the two ladies heard a voice, saying: "Ladies". The voice emanated from a large male figure wrapped in a bathrobe with bare feet. My mother remembers the feet because she never looked up to see the face. She and friend scuttled out that front door pretty rapidly. The open house sign on the lawn indicated that the open house was for the house next door.
