  1. I'm teaching EQ lesson 15 this sunday and I've come up with a list of questions on the topic. I don't intend to actually use these questions during the lesson because I prefer to stick to the basics for better or worse. However I'd thought these would be interesting if they pop up. 1. How did Jesus and the Holy Ghost become gods without marriage ordinance? Assuming ( I think correctly) they were gods prior to the birth of Jesus before which he couldn't get married. 2. Why is there so little mention of this "mandatory" and "necessary" ordinance in the BoM and Bible? Are there "hidden" scriptures in these books which imply marriage is required? 3. The million dollar question: Was Jesus married? 4. Besides the blessing of procreation, why is marriage required for exaltation? Or is procreation the key to exaltation? 5. Which dispensaitons had eternal marriage and which dispensations did not have eternal marriage? How do we know? Thanks in advance.
  2. If you are financially dependent on him (which it appears) now is the time to become financially independent just in case things don't work out. This means get a job and don't spend his money, not a dime. This will be good training for you if you are serious about divorce.
  3. We don't have a TV in our house, so whenever we stay in a hotel my wife is glued to it. Personally I grew up without a TV and have never had one because they annoy me. I can't imagine having one in the bedroom. I'm sure it's normal for most people though.
  4. The paperwork to get a cancellation includes the name and church membership record number of who you plan to get sealed to next. I suppose you could leave that part of the form blank if you don't have anyone in mind.
  5. If someone could decide which 3 of Israel's wives he will divorce in the Celestial Kingdom (Celestial Divorce! lawyers will have jobs there after all ) we can move on to a new topic. Will it go by seniority? First wife wins? Or can the husband just pick a winner like the rose contest on TV? "Surprise Zilpa!! You are the winner! Leah, Rachel and Bilhah you win a free one year subscription to Celestial Leftovers magazine. Please say goodbye to your family and exit the stage"
  6. We do have reason to suspect that it will be there. It wouldn't make sense to have Israel divorce 3 of his 4 wives and disband the house of Israel. That would ruin too many hymns.
  7. I was able to get over my ex before the divorce was even finalized. Just looking forward to the day my son is 18+ and I can block her from my cell phone permanently. I can tell you it was her cheating, her getting pregnant with son's coach, her filing divorce, her demanding thousands in monthly alimony but at the end of the day it was ALL clearly to my benefit. I even have a new eternal companion 2.0 with moral values. During my divorce I posted this scripture on my bathroom mirror: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God
  8. Entropy is not a force. Entropy has units of Joules/Kelvin and force has units of Newtons. Also entropy doesn't cause anything, it results from things.
  9. I'm going to wager that after a cancellation a woman does not need to go through the process again. It would be nothing but duplicate paperwork.
  10. I have some anecdotal evidence: I know an LDS woman who married at the age of 35 to the most amazing man on the planet and lived happily ever after. She happens to be my wife. So it's possible.
  11. For most of the history of the world, marriages were arranged by parents. For example, Abraham had a servant go fetch a wife for Isaac. This was pretty normal until our modern age. So if we have the luxury of picking our own spouse, and still cant handle marriage, I would expect exaltation is pretty much a non starter. Not that being single is such a bad thing, it's kind of the easy way out.
  12. Nobody will disagree with that. However, according to the story my father told, his MTC group was addressed by an Apostle regarding the priesthood. They were ordered not to ordain any black people in Brazil. That was the policy, as we know. So what was the doctrine? “The seeming discrimination by the Church toward the Negro is not something which originated with man; but goes back into the beginning with God" - David O. Mckay 1969 That "sounds" more doctrinal than than a matter of policy. If we assume (as I do) that this is the Church of Jesus Christ, and not the church of men, the only conclusion is that at a minimum Jesus Christ allowed racism to exist in His name and be facilitated by His priesthood. The other option would be to assume BOTH the withdraw and restoration of priesthood was done by revelation.
  13. The part of the statement about Brazil is interesting to me, my dad was a missionary there pre 1978 and I was there post 1978. Africans, natives, and Europeans have been mixing there since the days of Columbus, so imagine the difficulty in defining the term black. As a side note, I met a man named Helvecio Martins who did volunteer manual labor on the Sao Paulo temple knowing full well he was disqualified to enter. He had a short but prophetic conversation with Spencer W Kimbal at the groundbreaking. In addition to this he was promised the priesthood in his patriarchal blessing.
  14. stop doing that. Frankly I don't care what other people think of me. I've never understood why people even care what others think of them. Church is not a social event for starters. It's a worship event. I got divorced 4 years ago, and frankly I never cared what others were thinking about it. My ex's lawyer was essentially funded by tithing money because her dad paid for him and her dad works for the church. He also did not hesitate to tell a pack of lies about me while under oath. But hey, who cares what other's do and say? Nobody will ever come between me and my worship service. And I don't even care who the church employs. Not my problem. Likewise if someone judges you, it's not your problem, it's actually theirs.
  15. This stuff is scary. I have a daughter with my ex wife and she (ex wife) has told plenty of lies while under oath. Fortunately none of them have landed me in prison yet, but it seems any disaffected ex can make a false accusation on a whim and do just that. Marriage is for the brave.
  16. Replace shelter with parents, and you nailed it. But no worries, spousal and child support are of finite duration and finite amount. And they will impute her income at 40/hrs a week minimum wage when it's calculated. So the court will expect her to earn that much, which is actually more than you expect from her. Also they won't consider your second job or any overtime for the support calculations. And chances are she will remarry before you pay much alimony. Unless she's ugly, then you might pay longer.
  17. That makes sense, but if there are potential new offspring, they would be sealed (BIC) to the dead husband in that case. I can see why favoring the living makes sense, the dead can't complain. Children are BIC
  18. Well, let me make my implication clear. It is that alimony, and the system that perpetuates it is morally wrong. Brigham Young is a saint, and I wish I had the courage he did to go to jail for what I believe in. I'm a pushover compared to him.
  19. No worries mate. You are more than welcome to consider me a misogynist, as I consider myself one. Now regarding your points: 1) This was the argument that Brigham Young's attorney made in court. However, the judge did not agree with the argument. He had a valid legal argument yes, but unfortunately the law is interpreted by judges, not litigants. 2) hard to know for sure, but irrelevant either way. Alimony is commonly awarded to multi-millionaire women these days. It has nothing to to with dependence. 3) Alimony is separate from division of assets. They are not the same thing. He was not jailed for asset division problems. Alimony is about future income. 4) of course, but I fail to see what this has to do with him refusing to pay alimony.
  20. I'm assuming that these divorces were initiated by the wives rather than the husbands. If that's the case, one could argue that the husbands kept the law and the wives violated it. Brigham Young was divorced several times, and even jailed for refusing to pay alimony to an ex wife. Today his temple recommend would be witheld for not being current on alimony payments.
  21. If you're concerned at all about what he's doing, it's going to be a long road ahead for you. It should be the other way around. My ex filed divorce and I was overjoyed when I found out a few months later she was pregnant with her BF. Remarriage terminates alimony, so I was rooting for her to get remarried ASAP, and the baby did the trick. During the divorce I was ordered to support her (and her boyfriend ) with alimony. Just be glad you're not paying for his dates.
  22. “The most important single thing that any Latter-day Saint ever does in this world is to marry the right person, in the right place, by the right authority.” I think if you could look further than 70 years into the the future you would agree with the above quote. But looking hundreds of billions of years beyond mortality requires some long term vision. Easier to think of the short term.
  23. I think you have a great goal and that you will achieve it. The bishop will help you get prepared for this step in your life. Just like anything in life, it's better to go in prepared.
  24. And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
