  1. Alma the younger had a colorful past before his conversion. Next thing you know he's the spiritual leader of an entire society. Point is, nobody is worthy of celestial glory on their own. If you know someone who does not need a redeemer, I would like to meet him.
  2. It's still a federal crime in WA and CO, but not a state crime. So only a federal prosecutor and/or federal law enforcer can do anything in those states about it. It's probably unlikely that a federal marshal will be patrolling your residence in those states though.
  3. The New Testament has some useful points also: "And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands are chains: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her" Ecc 7:26
  4. Finding someone to give you a blessing in the MTC is liking finding saltwater in the ocean. It's not that hard. Forget the BP, grab anyone with the word "Elder" on the name tag.
  5. I don't really give much credulity to people who want to leave the church because they dont like the leaders or think the leaders are not supportive enough. I can tell you flat out, if my bishop gave me two black eyes and my sp spit in my face (not that they would) it would have zero effect on my feelings about the church or my interest in attending. Who cares what they do or think? Look at the name of the church, it's not the church of bishop so and so. To give you a real life example, I know someone who works at the church office building and essentially gets his paycheck from tithing. And I also know what he spends his paychecks on. But I also know that it's his problem and it doesn't make me stop paying tithing. And regarding divorce, been there done that, so I don't take it lightly, but if you have the gift of the Holy Ghost then you have access and help from the Godhead of the entire cosmos. I'm not sure how denying herself that privilege will help anything.
  6. Finally a bit of humor in all this. Behold your prince and his 7 wives! So glad you were patiently waiting.
  7. In that case find someone you do want to be sealed to. Civil marriage seems like such a dead end.
  8. If you live in Idaho then you have access to a temple. Attend with your husband frequently. I know my own father yelled quite a bit, I was always terrified of him until I became an adult, and an inch taller than him. Although he had many church callings during his life, according to my siblings (who live closer to my parents), he completely changed after having a calling to work in the temple.
  9. It seems contradictory to me, that he wants a baby, but all he cares about is money. Babies are not exactly cheap. At least mine aren't. Is he planning to sell the baby for money? If not, it's hard to argue that all he cares about is money.
  10. This reminds me of the time I got an email at work from my lawyer indicating the judge just stamped my divorce. I said to the guy sitting next to me "I've been divorced for ten minutes". His response was "what are you doing at work, go celebrate!" Moral of the story: there is none, but his response was funny. PS - I got sealed to my (2nd) wife just 3 weeks ago.
  11. It was also taught at the Bountiful temple. The sermon is definitely part of the higher law. It's is not the complete higher law, but a good portion of it. For example the D&C has a lot of the higher law in it too.
  12. I dont know, but... 1. women can give birth and men cant. Therefore, it seems to mathematically maximize the number of people BIC, you want the woman sealed at all times, and preferably to the biological father. Not sitting around waiting for the ex. 2. men have more responsibility to "find" and "propose". So if a man is single, in our culture, he can persue courtships more readily. 3. going back to the birth topic, women are not fertile as long as men, therefore they get priority. just wild speculation with a touch of reason.
  13. It's politically incorrect these days to talk about the house of Israel. Therefore the scripture is politically incorrect. This scripture says more about Isrealites than it does about the gentiles.
  14. I don't really get that sentence. That's like praying for Heavenly Father to help you like the color pink when your favorite color is green. In other words, you did the right thing. Congrats.
  15. That's always been the job of the Holy Ghost. And the moon thing is actually a a credit to the modern prophets. Here we have nearly 200 years of modern discourses and teachings, and with all that the most damning thing to bring up is JFS's quote about the moon? He said he "doubts" man would ever get to the moon, and it was before he was called as president of the church. Pretty reasonable track record for modern prophets.
  16. If He is omnipresent, then how could one enter His presence or be cast out of His presence? Neither would be possible. One could gain knowledge of God, but never proximity. Kind of like a dad you could skype with but never meet. As far as beginning and end, He doesnt need either. I consider myself to be without beginning or end, although I have a birth date. So you are right, true origin can't be located, because there is none. Only events (birth) can be located.
  17. That's easy, the first veil was made and worn by a woman named Iru and the year was 2455 BC. It had no symbolic meaning, she was just trying to keep her nose warm.
  18. It really boils down to the definition of advanced and alien. It's hard to ague that God is not more advanced. It's hard to argue that he originated on earth. Therefore, the words advanced and alien both describe him. But when prefaced with "simply", it communicates a different thing. It communicates he is nothing else. So the word "simply" doesn't work, at least for me. It's commonly supposed (here) that He (God the Father) has parents. That changes things significantly to say the least.
  19. Indeed. But but the inference is the post is about the father of Jesus. Nobody is suggesting Jesus to be an alien. We know the GPS coordinates of his birth.
  20. there must be some time for physical exercise, if he's not getting that. I know I walked 4-10 miles a day on my mission, but I imagine there are some places where you are in cars or whatever.
  21. It's no mystery that God is an alien. The definition of alien is not little green man. The definition of alien is a person who is not indigenous. In this case, he is not a native to our earth. It would be more of a stretch of the imagination to assume God was born on Earth, that doesn't compute.
  22. We know he didnt need consent (special case) because he had the keys, and also because his 1st wife was married for time only. But I think the real meat of the issue is: what is the definition of consent? For example, when a person pay taxes or a speeding ticket, is it totally voluntary? or by threat of force (imprisonment, garnishment, etc)? I would suggest the latter. Likewise there is a threat of "destruction" in section 132 for those who don't consent. We know Abraham consented to sacrifice Isaac, but it was out of sheer obedience, not the individual desires of Abraham. I think that was the type consent JFS was referring to in that quote.
  23. why did Abraham tell his wife to say she was his sister? wouldn't it have been much easier to just wear a veil? clearly Abraham did not practice public veil wearing.
  24. Young's first wife never gave consent, she was dead before he married his other wives. So it's settled: death is equivalent to consent.
