  1. Married at 23 and again at 35. Wife's ages were 19 and 35
  2. This is a good example of the benefits of a prenup. If your spouse is abusive, you can just show him/her to the door. Simple yet effective. Without a prenup "no-fault" divorce would put you on the hook to support that person who abused you with alimony payments.
  3. As fantastic as priesthood blessings (health, comfort, etc) are, they are not terribly important. There is a category of ordinances called saving ordinances. I'd focus on those first. No man can give himself a saving ordinance. So frankly I don't see man having the priesthood as some kind of advantage over women. If men could walk into the water and self-baptize or put their hands on their own head and pronounce a blessing, then that would be an advantage. They cant. They are as fully dependent on priesthood holders as women are for saving ordinances.
  4. The prime contract was given to Rockwell, the booster contract was given to Thiokol, the external tank contract was given to Martin Marietta and the main engine contract was given to Rocketdyne. People at NASA write requirements and award contracts, they don't design or build anything. But if SAHM want's to pretend she designed something while employed by NASA, it doesn't hurt to humor her. It would be more believable if she worked for one of the companies I listed.
  5. My bishop informed me (because I was getting a clearance) that his mother got a cancellation from his dad after he died (there's some loyalty). He mentioned it took her a long time, then she got sealed to her 2nd husband.
  6. I didn't know we were allowed to be politically incorrect here. If SAHM's want to pretend they are rocket scientists I don't see any problem with humoring them. It doesn't hurt anything.
  7. I have 1 question and 1 comments Why did it take you 13 years to figure this out? and my comment When I want an intellectual conversation I talk to my cousin not my wife. I don't see a problem with that. my summary Intellectual compatibility does not matter, once you're married it's too late to worry about such things.
  8. the follow up question to that statement is "why"? For example, are married women held to the same standard as MP holders? I would hope so.
  9. Peter James and John had a lot of training before they were ordained, but it consisted of catching fish. John the baptist wore leather underwear and lived in the wilderness. So in conclusion if you have leather underwear and can catch a fish you have enough training.
  10. Sounds like some relaxation is in order. Planning a wedding before the first date is a little extreme.
  11. Of course they are equal partners. It's a stretch to interpret that statement by saying men should submit to their wives. Would Christ submit to the Church of Christ? Impossible, he is the leader of his Church. Christ submits to the Father. The church submits to Christ. Women are to submit to their husbands as the church submits to Christ. This isn't new doctrine. Christianity has been this way since Adam and Eve.
  12. So if Brigham Young had 37+ wives how would he know which one to submit to? Which of Jacob's 4 wives did he submit to? Does God the Father submit to his wife (or wives)? No. The proclamation on the family says men are to preside in marriage. Sounds like a lot of fun, but in reality it puts a greater burden on the man. If he does not preside, he's skirting his job.
  13. I cant picture 19 year old American women walking the streets of Iran, trying to teach Christianity. Sounds like suicide. It will take nothing less than a miracle.
  14. If I could go back and do it again, I wouldn't even think about marriage till I was thirty. Consider yourself blessed if you are single. And when you do get engaged, be sure to have a rock solid prenup. You don't want to be payling alimony in your thirties and starting your 401k over.
  15. There are only 2 possibilities 1. God told him to divorce so you're now both on the correct path 2. He's nutty so now you're on the right path being rid of him It's really a win win situation as far as I can tell. Either way you come out ahead.
  16. It's being practiced (postmortem) today. I personally know 2 men who's wives passed away, and both got sealed again to another woman. I don't know Howard W. Hunter personally, but he went that route shortly prior to becoming president of the church.
  17. Although unofficial, many suppose that Mary was 14 when she married Joseph because 13 was the traditional age to get engaged and 14 to get married. She could have given birth at Bethlehem at age 15.
  18. About 6 months ago I got sealed to my wife. During the "pep talk" the sealer gave, he pointed to my wife and said "without her your priesthood will be of no use to you in the hereafter". yikes. DC 131:4 says without marriage you are damned. Anyway, I don't think there is any debate as to the existence of Heavenly Mother. But it's not a good topic for testimony meeting. Wrong place, wrong time.
  19. I believe that story because my uncle did that. In fact it may be him you are speaking of if this is in Nevada.
  20. Congrats. Mine took longer but that's because our SP said he has a personal policy of slowing down the process. I didn't pressure him but my bishop did regularly because he wanted to see us get sealed. Anyway, the SP finally called us in for an interview and finally sent in the papers, then it went pretty fast. The sad thing is our bishop moved out of state about a week before we got sealed so he missed it. PS - my SP gave an example of a couple that divorced and remarried themselves 5 times to each other. I told him I wouldn't bother dealing with such a couple myself. He said things like that gave him the policy of "not rushing".
  21. I went to church by myself but it was somewhat temporary because about 6 months after becoming inactive she filed divorce. So I spent more time going to church as a bachelor I suppose. The biggest problem is the courts love to give the kids to the mother, which means they (kids) rarely attend church because I rarely have them. My daughter is 10 and not baptized. To me that's a bigger problem than going to church alone.
  22. I think this topic has managed to frustrate my mother. I once told her I felt I would have 4 children. Then I only had 2. She really freaked out when I told her I was done with 2. She thinks there are two souls floating around up there that had their lives screwed up because they were not born to me. I suppose if individual plans were mapped out and given to us in detail, it could work to our condemnation. But since we don't know exactly "what to do" all the time, we are not condemned when we just try our best.
  23. This may sound silly, but I often wish I had just a small fraction of the faith that he (BY) had. Just a 1/1000th part would do me good.
  24. My 1st wife was a SAHM so obviously I paid for everything. I later found out the problem with that is SAHMs are pretty much shoe-ins to get the kids in a divorce, and tons of alimony. Dont get me started on no-fault divorce and alimony lol. I later remarried to someone who has a career, she makes 25% of my income. Although she does not contribute to household expenses, it makes me feel good to know she works. The first time I saw her put gas in her car with her own money it was like a whole new world to me. I'd never seen anything like that, I grew up with a stay at home mom. Anyway, good luck with your rent. Don't marry anyone you can't afford to pay alimony to.
