  1. So I suppose holding a pool with a dollar entry would be right out.
  2. I carry a gun pretty much constantly. If I have pants on, I generally have at least one gun on my person. Why? Because I can and it is my right. I have never once even had it cross my mind to pull out my gun simply because I was upset at someone. The gun stays in the leather until I perceive a threat to my life or the lives of those under my protection, I'm going to shoot it in a recreational or practice setting, I'm going to maintain it, or I'm going to store it. Now perhaps I could see a story where he removed the gun to store it, saw the dog pee, forgot he had the gun in his hand, went to confront the daughter and accidentally swept her with the gun. He still deserves a kick to the groin over it, and I've heard of disciplinary action in the military for sweeping someone with an "unloaded" (There is no such thing as an unloaded gun) gun on the range, but I can see perhaps gross incompetence instead of malicious intent, BUT then we get a second case of brandishing a firearm because he's angry at someone. He can't be trusted to have a gun. Now to get to my personal feelings on gun control because it's relevant in this case, I don't want to start a debate on gun control, just underscore how serious I think his actions are. I don't believe in it, not even for free violent felons. Why? Because I don't believe that someone that can't be trusted with a gun should be walking around free without a full time keeper because he also really can't be trusted with a knife or a car or a baseball bat or a big stick or a rock or fists. There is no viable excuse for ever brandishing a gun as a part of an argument. My grandfather didn't even do that during WWII when he had another soldier vastly larger than he was threatening to beat him up. They were in a combat zone so he had a rifle slung over his shoulder. He didn't even threaten to shoot the man then, even though it would have been justified. Instead he clocked him upside the head with a shovel, but that's another story. Your husband needs to be in jail or some other institution until he can establish that he has his temper issues under control. Since that isn't actually an option in our current society, I would not only divorce him but follow The Folk Prophet's advice and move somewhere he can't find you, change your name, your habits, and whatever else you have to do to make it impossible for him to find you. You should further arm yourself and get trained in proper pistol self defense just in case he does happen to find you.
  3. I don't even remember the anniversary of the day I was baptized. I doubt I would remember yours without a reminder.
  4. You do realize that men aren't the only ones that have feelings right? Some studies say that significantly more women cheat than do men, it's just that women are vastly better at not getting caught. The thing you have to understand is that men are aroused by viewing an attractive woman. Women don't find physical attractiveness to be the primary motivator to arousal. They are more aroused by men who would be able to provide security, safety and status. This means money, power, stability etc instead of looks. There are reasons that both men and women are inclined to cheat. Though we have been commanded not to cheat, we have also been programmed to do so. Our first commandment was to multiply and replenish the earth. This is the most important possible commandment. It was so important that unlike other commandments where we are told to deny our natures and obey them, the mandate to multiply and replenish the earth is something that is wound into our very natures. Even the most vile sinners, indeed especially the most vile sinners tend to engage in reproductive activity. That is how massively important that particular commandment is. Giving reproduction this level of importance gives God a couple of advantages. First it gives us something to overcome. Second it gives assures that no matter what there will be a continuation of the society. Why do you suppose we use the phrase "Women and children first?" It isn't because we just feel that women and children are more delicate. It is because in a total disaster we can repopulate with only a few males. Women take 9 months to produce offspring, with a break required in between, 20 or so births is about the maximum, with a practical limit much lower. Men, given sufficient women, can produce hundreds of offspring. If you look at historical examples, nearly every time a particular society has needed a population explosion it has turned to polygamy. Literally hundreds of societies in human history would have gone extinct if men were not programmed to be interested in more than one woman at a time. There is also a genetic advantage to cheating. The phrase "sewing your wild oats" doesn't just refer to promiscuous behavior. Females can engage in behavior that is similar, but only males can "sew wild oats", as the female is the fertile soil in which the wild oats are to grow. Traditionally a young male would travel a bit and engage in some fun. This would result in his DNA being spread around to other villages, deepening the gene pool. Females also have some motivation to cheat, particularly with someone sewing his wild oats. It increases the genetic diversity in her area and reduces the chances of a genetic problem with her offspring, increasing the number of offspring she has that reach adulthood. Now anciently no one knew about genetics, but the programing exists because it is beneficial to us. God gave us this programming because it was needed. You seem to be in an insanely small minority, because not only do nearly all men feel the occasional sexual attraction to those with whom they are not in a relationship, but from everything I've read, a majority of women do too. After all, if they didn't, no woman would ever cheat, and we all know they do. Women just have a different criteria for what causes them to want to cheat.
  5. I'm from Idaho, but I spent two years in the Dominican Republic and didn't complain about mine, and yes I wore them day and night. I took them off to shower, or rather pour cold water over my head since there was no running water or water heater, but I digress. I'm pretty sure it's as hot or hotter there than in Florida. There was also no air conditioning, and we only had fans when the electricity was working (rolling blackouts). Tough it out, all the time for a while and you'll get used to it.
  6. Good Post. I too was taught that we somehow voted on two plans. After studying it and pondering it, I'm not sure how or even that Satan's plan would have worked. We have come in this country to worship the concept of "democracy" meaning we do whatever we vote on. The problem is that a lot of people can be induced to vote on things that make no sense. If we vote gravity out, it's still going to happen. My own thought is that Satan presented a plan that sounded good to a lot of people, but could it be not that we voted it out, nor that the Father just overrode, but simply a factual condition that it wouldn't work. Satan didn't want to save everyone, rather he wanted glory and felt cheated and threw (and is still throwing) a temper tantrum when he was told no.
  7. Roundtable is a monthly district wide meeting for scout leader training. If you don't know when and where it is, check your local council website or contact your scout service center. For further training check out woodbadge. It is a rather intensive and life changing course. As far as the program goes, most things in the current program can be done by the den leader or the parents. A few things are specified to be either done by the family or in the den, but most can be done either place. You should also be advised that the Cub Scout program is changing radically soon. The date for LDS units is June 1. You will particularly want to attend Roundtable for training on this, and check with your local service center for more information.
  8. I would say it depends on the person, the nature of the change being requested, and the relationship. You need to stop doing drugs. You need to change the part in your hair. Both of these are pretty fair. One is a big deal that is destructive to everyone around. The other is small enough that it shouldn't generally a big deal. You need to lose weight. This might or might not be fair. You need to lose weight even though you aren't particularly fat because I like a skinny boy/girlfriend/husband/wife. You need to lose weight because the doctor said that if you didn't you were going to die. The first is shallow, the second is kind of a good idea. I had a cousin who got married (prenuptual pregnancy was involved). He liked video games. His wife-to-be was informing everyone that he was no longer going to like video games and his new hobby was scrapbooking. This is an example of something that wouldn't be fair. Of course he's still into video games. Then the relationship aspect. A spouse or parent has a bit more of a right to make right to make a request for a change than a friend or an acquittance. The question as stated is a bit too vague to give a meaningful yes or no answer.
  9. That's what my wife and I thought too. We were watching on a DVR and I was able to back it up. He said "Large and spacious building". It just sounded like hastag spacious building.
  10. I usually carry a Kel-Tec P3AT. It fits nicely in my pocket and is pretty much invisible. I can also easily conceal a full sized 1911 under an untucked T Shirt. That doesn't work so well for me though because I have virtually no hips or butt. The added weight tends to take my pants down, so I'm looking for alternatives.
  11. Traditionally, this would be more of a guild. Guilds have done some appalling things too.
  12. I would second checking for Alzheimer's, or other forms of dementia. Also checking for things like brain tumors and other potential medical issues would be advisable. It sounds to me less like typical mental illness, and more like a specific physical problem with the brain, the kind that shows up on a cat scan.
  13. When politicians control buying and selling, the first things bought and sold are the politicians. Until you fix this little problem, all such governmental power grabs need to be resisted. No amount of governmental regulation will help, and anything the government does will only hurt.
  14. There is apparently a trend in surrogacy where the impregnation is handled the "old fashioned" way. I suspect that method would lead to church discipline.
  15. I think you missed his sarcasm there. It sounded like he was saying that the rest of the media would be saying it's a big deal if it were a fox news anchor, but since it's a "respected" NBC anchor, that it's nothing and just Fox News trying to discredit the other stations.
  16. English has three genders too, we just stopped calling inanimate objects he or she.
  17. It sounds to me as if, at least at the time the scripture was given, that he didn't even know himself. Now since time (at least in our perception) is rather linear, that statement is only true until something happens to change it. Certainly once it happens, we'll all know the exact hour. Some time before Christ returns, he will have to be (perhaps at this point has been) informed of the exact time. Then perhaps the angels, then perhaps the prophets, then through the prophets, the saints. At least that's how I suspect such things would go, as there would need to be specific preparations made. As to the lead time each group would need, I couldn't say for certain. It is thus possible (though far from certain) that some of those groups have at this point been informed. Since I've heard nothing from the first presidency, I can say with a fair certainty that it is not time to inform the saints yet. As to whether or not any of the rest have been informed (or even for sure if they will be) would be absolute speculation.
  18. Well my wife and I are Eleven-Year-Old scout leaders and she earned her Young Women's Medallion. Here's her Response "As someone who has seen both sides of the spectrum in question, I feel I can reasonably accurately answer the question of emphasis on each presentation. I must clarify that I earned my medallion under the old program but I have taken a good look at the new program and my mother is currently a YW leader in her ward. To earn an Eagle Scout rank, a boy must complete no less than 13 hours in preparatory service projects such as First Class, Star, and Life rank required projects and the 8 hours of required service for the Citizenship in the Community merit badge. A boy is required to spend no less than 20 nights camping for the camping merit badge. He must attend scout camp or lots of troop overnighters in order to meet this requirement. He must earn a total of at least 21 merit badges, several of which are clearly defined. He must learn first aid, emergency preparedness, cooking, citizenship, consciousness for his environment, camping skills, physical fitness, personal management and finance skills, and career-orientated skills. All of these merit badges require numerous hours of individual effort. Also required is a great deal of leadership practical experience as a patrol member with specific responsibilities. The final requirement is the Eagle project requiring lots of man hours to complete. While there is no specific minimum number of hours on the project, a good value to shoot for is about 100 man hours. This figure, at least, gives a reasonable idea of the required size and scope of the project guidelines. Under the old YW program, I had to complete at least 2 'value experiences' in each of the 7 YW values per year for the first 4 years. Several of these experiences took 10 minutes or less to complete. The final 2 years I was required to complete 2 'value projects' a year of my own design requiring no less than 20 hours each. The new program is far different. Much like the requirements for First Class or a merit badge, there are checklists of required activities and optional activities to be completed rather than choosing a couple of quick 'experiences' right before your birthday. Also, there is a 'value project' to be completed for each of the now 8 values of your own choosing requiring a minimum of 10 hours to complete (virtue specifies what the project is to be). This award is no longer dictated by what year you are in YW. Many of these requirements may still be completed in less than 10 minutes. The requirements in time and effort for the Eagle Scout and the YW Medallion are vastly different. The Eagle Scout requires a great deal more time and effort on the part of the boy than the medallion requires of the girl. As such, the Eagle Scout receives much more attention."
  19. The first funeral I went to was when I was roughly two or three. I remember my dad holding me up to see inside the casket. He said it was an uncle of his. I was wondering why someone would put a mannequin in a box. Next (still before 8), one of my great grandmothers died. I knew it was her dead body, and I remember everyone saying how lifelike she looked. I still thought a dead body looked about as lifelike as a mannequin. By the time I was 8 years old, I'd been to at least three funerals. I don't recall being traumatized.
  20. I won't be likely to be having an airport horror story because until MASSIVE changes are made to how the government and the airlines handle things, I won't be willingly flying anywhere.
  21. I was 35 before I found someone.
  22. Not sure, I remember this instruction from my mission, I didn't pay much attention to it since I loathe basketball. A supposition would be that playing full court can get faster with long shots and fast breaks. There may be a demonstrable greater risk of injury for full court as opposed to half court. I don't know this for sure, but it might have something to do with it. A great many of the mission rules aren't imposed by revelation, but by the insurance company people, and by lawyers. Just one of those little facts of modern life in an insanely litigious society.
  23. The problem is that there are women who engage in consensual activity (generally the more religious ones) who afterward then decide that they are not the kind of girl who would do such a thing and then rearrange reality to categorize it as rape. I knew one who said that an act was rape because the guy was nice to her and she felt that if she did not initiate such activity, he would cease being nice to her. EDIT OK, nevermind, I just saw your followup post
  24. You'll have much better luck with something from this century.
  25. Most modern 1911's eat pretty much anything you feed them.
