Um, Actually, I think you missed the part about him sleeping with and moving in with his girlfriend. Evolution has nothing to do with that part.

I would comment, but you about summed up my opinion.

Besides talk on Dry Council Sunday, I couldn't tell you.

Probably not one of these. All kidding aside, the seerstone probably was easier to see in the dark, and he used whatever hat or other substitute he had handy at the time.

I was going to say only in Chicago, but you beat me to it.

LDS Friendship unhealthy and is time to call it quits?

It sounds like your friend is in serious need of some professional mental health care. -

The problem with your description is that there will seldom be a case when the mother's life is in jeopardy, but the child will survive. This happens in childbirth occasionally, but usually well after the child would be viable on it's own. The more likely event will be that the child will have to be aborted to save the mother, but there would be no way to save the child and let the mother die. In other words, in the vast majority of instances, it will be abort the child or they both die. In this circumstance, aborting the fetus is the only logical course of action. It's dead either way and you can save another life. A more likely scenario is when there is significant risk to the mother's life, but a possibility of survival. This is when the question becomes interesting. There is always a risk of death during pregnancy and childbirth how much risk triggers abortion being OK? If 100% she won't live long enough to give birth, you abort no question, what about 95%? What about 50%? Where is the line?

Church releases picture of seer-stone
kapikui replied to classylady's topic in Church News and Events
Strange, I knew about it and never even tried to find anything out about it. I think by "hiding" our history, a lot of people mean not screaming it in your face until you can't possibly miss it. -
do opposites really attract?
kapikui replied to searchforhappiness's topic in Marriage and Relationship Advice
This sounds a lot like depression. She also stated that it's only been about the last five years which would indicate a relatively recent development. How are things for him at work? What's going on with finances? Are there any other stressors (besides an unhappy wife, already a major stressor) that could be triggering issues? Speaking to a medical professional may be a good idea. -
Has anyone cracked the code on temple film rotation?
kapikui replied to a topic in General Discussion
As far as which film gets shown, Idaho Falls still moves room to room, so everyone alwas starts in the same room. I can't say much as to any descernable pattern I've seen except that when things get really busy they seem to go to the older one because it's shorter and they can actually push an extra session through on the half hour instead of only on the hour. Of course since Idaho Falls is closed for renovation until October 2016, it isn't really showing any of them at the moment. -
I'm not sure I would classify any of these as a sacred relic so much as an historically important item. Any good artwork by a famous individual is at a bare mininmum valuable. Original BoM manuscripts would likewise be historically important in much the same way that an original Shakespear manuscript would be. I'm not sure that the Church puts much emphasis on such things.

Vort was correct. The Church and the Lord for that matter, doesn't really care about our perception of fair. The goal is about what creates the desired outcome. The YW program is creating the desired result as it is. If a similar program were created for the YM, it likely wouldn't give the desired results. Creating the men and women that will be who we need them to be,. As to why the YW don't do the "cool" things that the Scouts do, they aren't prohibited, but in my observations, many of the women in the church have few if any such skills and the YW leadership won't do the "cool" things because they would then have to learn to do those things and don't want to.

Boy scout executive committee approves gay scout leaders
kapikui replied to RMGuy's topic in Current Events
This depends on how the final resolution was set up. Since I presume none of us has read the details, it could easily be that there is some disastrous provision. It could also have been some overzealous person issuing a press release. I'm not sure how the first release makes it sound like The Church doesn't want to influence the vote. It was a short declarative statement that any limitation on how Chartered organizations chose leaders, or forcing organizations to chose homosexual leaders against their religious conviction would be an instant deal breaker. It did not say that everything would be AOK if we continued to have that right. While you're right that there may have been some provision for an emergency meeting, it depends on where the key individuals were at the time of the vote. We send the Brethren out to some pretty technologically devoid areas (at least by modern standards). They key needs of The Church must take precedence. What the second press release does do is makes it sound as if there were some attempt by the BSA to limit the voicing of opposing opinions at their vote. If that is the case, the BSA is no longer the organization I loved, and I owe it no more loyalty. As far as "The church has always welcomed..." I agree that it was poorly worded. When the new resolution came out on homosexual scouts, the Church's position was that young boys don't yet have a sexual orientation, and withing LDS units, there would be no practicing homosexual boys, or for that matter heterosexual boys as such activity would limit church activity anyway. I would be interested in hearing about this other info. -
At Least Two Ancestral Populations Gave Rise to Native Americans
kapikui replied to Finrock's topic in Current Events
Interesting first couple of paragraphs, but the rest of the article is only available to subscribing customers. I would be surprised if it were only two. -
This is going to change. The BSA will be putting out new requirements starting January. Six campouts will be required before earning first class. The Church has already updated the handbook on scouting to clarify that only three will be allowed. It will now be impossible for any eleven-year-old Scout to earn First Class by his 12th birthday in an LDS unit.

The quietness has nothing to do with the ability of the spirit to go, but rather my ability to hear it over all of the other distractions.
-
Interesting. There are at least 4 temples within 2 hours of where I live, and hundreds of quiet places withing 15 minutes.
-
No argument here, but for people who live close, it's the quietest place around. A clearing would be pretty good too.
-
You can talk to your friend in the front row of a rock concert, but it's a lot easier to go someplace quiet.
