Good news: As a former porn-addict, I can testify that breaking a porn-addiction is a wonderful opportunity to experience the enabling power of Christ!  By submitting myself to Christ, I made progress resisting pornography I didn't think was even possible!  My testimony of the enabling power of the Atonement is now unshakable!  And Christ will do the same for you!  Remember, God never gives us a commandment - such as the LoC - without first providing a way for us to fulfill it!

At first I thought it was blasphemous to think Heavenly Father had a past history as a mortal man.  But once I learned man is an uncreated being in D&C 93 then it didn't seem like a big deal anymore.  Pretty good example of 'milk before meat', don't you think?

Then you are clearly someone who should be ignored.
Says the person condemning those who marry for reasons he judges inadequate. The irony is palpable.
This may be the most bizarre, perverse scriptural gloss I have ever heard: An apostle encouraging sin to avoid a greater sin.

It means that lusting after a woman is committing adultery in the heart.
Lust is illicit sexual desire. But sexually desiring one's own wife cannot be illicit. Thus, by definition, one cannot "lust" for one's own wife. Thus Paul teaches that it is better to marry than to burn with lust. The feeling doesn't go away when you marry; on the contrary, it often greatly strengthens. But it's not lust, because she's your wife.
chasingthewind, somewhere along the line you got the idea into your head that sexual desire is wicked per se. You are wrong. Please disabuse your mind of that idea. It is false.
Nonsense. You do not understand what you're talking about. You should read the scriptures more carefully (setting aside your perverse sexual preconceptions) and study the teachings of the modern prophets.

Sorry, but I didn't intend to make this thread about a specific person.   I meant for this thread to be specifically focused on the act of marrying for sex and whether it's moral.

I fully agree that 'sex done right' is a great good.  But I do not believe the scenario you just described of a man getting married after the death of his wife because "sex is too good to go without" is 'sex done right'.
Yes, I know a marriage is between three entities (both spouses and the Lord).  I am not disputing that. The point I am making is that what is right/wrong is up to one entity - God.  God alone determines what is moral/immoral  and since He has forbidden lustful desires in Matt. 5:28 then a marriage built on lustful desires is immoral.
I guess I phrased my question poorly in my last comment.  I should have said, "Who cares whether the wife thinks it's morally acceptable to marry just for sex?  What matters is whether God thinks marrying just for sex morally acceptable."

lol!  I didn't really intend for this topic to be about the judgment of any particular person (i.e., my friend's brother).  Rather, the OP was intended to start a discussion about the immorality of marrying only for sex and how such an action stacks up compared to other acts of sexual immorality.

Would you judge this person if he was out at a strip club?  What if he was with a prostitute?  Or if he was watching pornography?  If so,  why does your judgment suddenly stop when it comes to marriage?
Lust is lust no matter where it rears its head and it should be condemned across the board.

Just recently a female friend of mine told me that one of her brothers got married for the sole purpose of having sex.  What are your thoughts on this?  Personally, I think when someone behaves in such a manner they are showing that they don't really believe in God.  If they really believed in God, they'd believe He knows all of their thoughts, intentions, desires, and motivations.  They'd believe God is the judge of their heart (not just the judge of their actions) and they couldn't get away with denigrating God's holy temple into a place to fulfill their lustful desires.  So this person doesn't really believe in God at all.  They're an atheist at heart all while giving the outward appearance of being a 'faithful member'.  Honestly, if all you're interested in is sex then you'd be better off going to a strip club, finding a prostitute, watching pornography, etc.  Keep filthiness where it belongs instead of bringing it into God's temple.

If I am truly free, then my choices must originate with me; not God.  There must be some part of my being that God did not create (which is precisely what Mormonism teaches in D&C 93 where it says God didn't create the intelligences of men).  Thus, free will requires a pre-mortal existence and a rejection of creation ex nihilo.

Are you suggesting I pass up all opportunities to date locally until the girl in Utah becomes available for a long-distance relationship?  That's just not a good idea.
Are you suggesting I continue to date locally and not tell the girl in Utah I'm dating anyone?  That doesn't seem honest.

Okay, chasingthewind, I've read this entire thread and my advice still stands.  Go Duckie.  But, in case your mother rightly shielded you from the sleazy world of 80's cult movies and don't know what I'm talking about, I'm going to be serious with you.
What do you mean when you say you love this woman?  What does LOVE mean to you?  Because you know... having that butterfly in your stomach and that pitter-pattering of your heart, and those jelly knees, and those daydreams is not quite Love, you see.  Love is wanting to bring the woman joy.  That means - what makes you happy is to be able to give this woman everlasting joy.  It's not - wanting her to give you joy.  You see?
Now, Duckie is the perfect illustration of this.  Duckie loves Andie.  They're best friends.  Duckie goes to Andie's house every morning to walk her to school, goes to her house to do homework together and he goes home thinking, yes, Andie is happy today.  Meanwhile, Andie has friend-zoned him.  Duckie to Andie is her best friend and would never be anything else.  Andie tells Duckie this all the time.  So, does this change Duckie?  No.  Duckie loves Andie.  It is not dependent on Andie loving him back.  So, Duckie spends his time with Andie and goes home thinking, yes, I've helped make Andie happy today.  Well... comes the day when Andie does something that Duckie thinks is going to make her unhappy.  Andie fell in love with Blaine.  Blaine is in with the bad crowd.  And, Duckie, loving Andie, of course, feels he is so much better for Andie than Blaine is.  So he confronts her about it.  Andie got upset with Duckie and tells him to back off.  Duckie, in a moment of weakness and being hurt badly, throws a big tantrum.  It didn't work out for Duckie, of course, because throwing a tantrum is always a stupid thing to do.  Well, Duckie's fears came true and Blaine ended up hurting Andie badly.  In total high-school fashion, the big moment always comes at the Prom.  Andie was supposed to go with Blaine to the prom but Blaine backed out of it.  So Andie took courage and went to the prom by herself.  On the hallway leading to the gym doors, Duckie stands there, also going to the prom alone, to give Andie moral support.  Andie forgives Duckie for being an idiot and they're friends again.  As they enter the gym, Andie sees Blaine going to her and she was going to give him the cut-direct but Duckie told her that Blaine came to the prom alone.  Duckie learned that Blaine is actually a good guy that just got caught in the middle of bad friends.  So Duckie encouraged Andie to talk to Blaine.  Blaine apologized for being a doofus and Andie and Blaine live happily ever after.  Duckie, in the meantime, was happy because... Andie is happy and Blaine is a good guy.
So, in conclusion... if you REALLY love somebody (and not just Loving the idea of being in love with somebody), you will only have one question you need to answer - what will make her happy?  Happiness, of course, comes from being closer to Christ.  If you believe that you are THE GUY that can bring her closer to Christ and make her happy... GO DUCKIE!  FIGHT FOR ANDIE!  Give Blaine a run for his money.  You might get hurt - very badly - but, if Andie is happy choosing Blaine, you've achieved your objective... and you can go be Duckie to somebody else.
