Sounds like @Dillon has a negative view of women and doesn't understand ppd or what constitutes valid reasons for divorce.

Welcome to the forum and to the Church! Glad to have you part of both.
That's great about your calling. I suggest reading each weeks Gospel Principles lesson ahead of time so you're better prepared to answer questions and offer insights. Also, as you share your testimony, remember that people respond to enthusiasm. I also suggest introducing new converts to the family history consultants so they can start on their family history and finding names to take to the temple.

Just out of curiosity, is there anyone reading this thread who DOESN'T think Dillon is way off base on a lot of important things?  Anyone saying "yeah, that Dillon is sure raising some good points"?
I'm asking, not trying to humiliate or single out or be snarky or anything, but as a way of pointing out something obvious.  If you're the only person who seems to be believing what you believe, isn't it appropriate to maybe evaluate if your perspective might need some re-aligning?

    2 possibilities:
1.)  You need to find better women friends.
2.)  You need to better understand what your women friends are saying.
I still have a suspicion this is projection.  Who hurt you?

We are not talking about "women".  We are talking about a woman--and a man, and their children.  Your opinion on their particular scenario has now been offered; and if you want to pursue your vendetta against all women--this isn't the place.

    My thoughts:
~That was the ppd talking so let it go.
~She may not know how to walk back from it.
~She may have a warped sense of what love is supposed to look/feel like. Hollywood has not helped with this so avoid things that perpetuate the faulty ideas.
~There are different versions of love and different people see it differently. Sounds like hers is more practical and yours is more lovey-dovey.
~Stop focusing so much on what you don't like and put more emphasis on what you do. (what you feed, grows)
~Figure out her love language and speak it often. (check your library for the book 'the 5 love languages')
~fwiw - Through all the ups and downs, my husband has never let anything stop him from loving me any way he can. Don't you be stopped either.

This is called "projection".  I don't know what happened in Dillon's life but I am pretty sure this is a reflection of that.
This is not the norm nor is this anywhere close to the fact pattern of the OP.
And post-partum depression is more serious than just something to use as an excuse.  The signs of PPD is all-encompassing and can be very serious to the health and even survivability of both the mother and the baby and should not be taken lightly.
And if I may say - anyone who has this outlook should not get married until such time that they dig out where this projection is coming from and deal with it.

my two cents reacted to clbent04 in Requesting a Blessing to Cast Out Unclean Spirits
Met with the bishop today to have the blessing performed to cast out any unclean spirits within me.  I fasted and prayed for this blessing.  We talked for a little bit beforehand.  He asked if I had any concerns before he did the blessing.  I wanted to make sure that if I did have an unclean spirit, that it be commanded to not return.  I asked if it would be okay if I read Mark 9:25, and we did. I also told him I wasn't placing too much emphasis on the blessing regardless what happened.  He said he knew and understood why I was doing it.  He thought it was a good idea.  He said he didn't sense that I had an unclean spirit within me, but that he would rely on the Holy Spirit to direct the blessing so that it could be a blessing from God and not from him personally.
He said he spoke to the stake president earlier in the week asking if he should do the blessing. The stake president responded, "Absolutely."  The stake president advised him to make sure the spirits don't come back like we were discussing earlier.  The bishop said requesting the blessing was a righteous desire.  He cautioned that casting out an unclean spirit or evil influence has the potential to invite another spirit more powerful than the first. I told him I understood and he proceeded to do the blessing.  It was just the bishop and me present in his office.
The bishop began by blessing me that all evil influences in my life be removed.  He blessed me with the power to resist temptation. He blessed me with the capacity to command evil influences be cast out on my accord. The blessing acknowledged my struggle with pornography, and also blessed me to be a good husband and steward of my home. He blessed me that I may have financial security.
And that was pretty much it. He did not specifically say "In the name of Jesus Christ I command any unclean spirits to leave this body and to not return." He did not feel inspired to say those words or something similar, and as he said earlier, he did not feel impressed that I had an unclean spirit residing within me.
So no, nothing cinematic happened during the blessing, but I am happy with the outcome nonetheless and grateful for the bishop and his service. It is nice to know I am in complete control of my own destiny, and that there is just one set of hands on the wheel!  I came home to my wife telling her, "The demons have been exorcised!", to which she laughed and asked for more details on how it went.

my two cents reacted to Sunday21 in Why is Sunday the hardest day of the week?
Do you love your weekday routine? Is there something about your weekday routine that works for you psychologically? Eg weekdays, you have a lot of control over your schedule? Or you love the analysis or project that you are working on? Or Sunday, you are stuck with the kids? Or you stay up late sat night working so Sunday, you are tired?
Do you suffer from migraines? Some migraine sufferers have a hard time on their day off because: they relax so migraine hits or they sleep in which encourages migraines.
Does your feeding routine alter on Sundays? Take a snack.

    There. I fixed it.
Personally, I'm really susceptible to mimicking the behavior and attitude of anyone I'm spending time with, which is why I've become more particular about who I spend time with as I grow older.

Yep, sweating stinks (er, so to speak), but I think the consequences of faithfully wearing (or sweating in) the garment are better than declining to do as we have covenanted to do.  And, I believe in mind over matter - or just the plain adaptability of the human body - I've experienced it with both extremes (adapting to hot and cold) and read of others doing the same.  But if your mind is constantly saying, "this is too hot, this is uncomfortable, I hate this", then that becomes / remains your reality.

I'm sure this is not the case for everyone and I don't know anything about garments.  However, there are some things I know God wills me to do.  I also know that if I took half the energy I expended thinking of reasons I didn't have to do it and put that energy to actually doing it my life would be simpler.

Once again the Church is prepared and already sending aid.  Contrary to what our critics say about how we should be spending tithing money to assist more people,  the Church is always one of the first responders.

SALT LAKE CITY — Three trucks full of water and relief kits from the LDS Church rolled away from the Bishops' Central Storehouse in Salt Lake City on Friday and headed toward Houston as Hurricane Harvey swept toward Texas.
The trucks will resupply the local Bishops' Storehouse in Houston operated by the Welfare Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Houston storehouse is fully stocked and prepared for the storm, LDS Church spokesman Doug Andersen said.

Well, I made my policy official. No regular homework other than the spelling list to study. I also explained I would not be officially tracking home reading minutes, I [and another teacher on my team, nice to have backup] are still offering tracking sheets for those who like to track such things. Mine is on the back of my class letter template with the explicit instructions I don't want the dang paper back. Instead, I'm going to assume wild reading and talk it up like I very well expect them to be reading at home.

I suspect you're aware of the Jewish tallit katan, which originates from an injunction in Numbers about making fringes in the corners of one's garments as a remembrance.  And IIRC, Nibley points to ancient sources ascribing divine power to garments worn by Adam, Noah, Nimrod, etc.
The form and symbolic significance of the garment have probably evolved over time to suit the needs of various generations; but the overall concept of specialized holy clothing that reminds God's people of their covenants and offers some measure of divine protection seems fairly consistent over time.

Since we're talking about garments, I have a short story told me by my dad.
My dad was helping my uncle move an old metal shed. In the process of moving the shed, the old metal collapsed and tore and came down on my dad's leg. It tore straight through his new denim jeans, but his leg was left uninjured because it hadn't penetrated his garments.

    @Fether @Vort
Thanks for the cautionary advice. I think I am pretty honest with myself to not place blame elsewhere when it comes to owning my mistakes. Regardless what happens with the blessing, I am trying to prepare myself the best I can for the repentance process, to have all the cards stacked in my favor to accomplish my goal of breaking my pornography addiction.
Upon learning more about others' experiences with unclean spirits, I think it's prudent for someone like me to take advantage of the tools we have at our disposal. I'm trying to proceed with my addiction recovery step by step, not putting too much emphasis on any one thing.  Prayer alone is not going to get me there. Going back to church won't either.
And yet, somehow, just recently, after a long time of being in the dark, my hope has been reignited. Maybe it's not a lot of hope, an honest reflection of my own history limits that hope to a small spark, but it's something!  I had nothing for 3 years. And for the first time in a while I attended church last Sunday and have full intentions to return again.  For the first time in a while I found myself praying to God.
The repentance process will work for me if I allow it to. I know I have to do my part.

The Savior taught us what to do in these circumstances.  This is in the paper, but here is the relevant scripture.
"When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him." (Mark 9:25)
When evil spirits are cast out, command them to never return.  Otherwise they will continue to hound you.
