    For those wondering -
In Return of the Jedi (1983), the Rebels - the good guys - introduced the B-Wing torpedo bomber. Although it only had a few appearances in the movie itself, the novels, comic books, video games, and so forth that came after made heavy use of it.
The B-Wing has enough torpedoes to bring down two Imperial (re: the bad guys) corvette ships.
The director for Episode 8 either did not know about them or did not care, and instead did an "epic" scene in which an entire flight of traditional gravity-fed bombers (yes, gravity-fed bombers in space...) sacrificed themselves to take out a bad guy dreadnought. The rest of the movie hinged on the aftermath of this sequence.
However, if B-Wings had been utilized instead of those bombers, the dreadnought could have been destroyed from a safe distance once the X-Wing fighters suppressed its defenses.
That entire scene could have ended with no good guys dying.

To put it bluntly, I am at this point pretending that the Disney-era productions don't exist.
The franchise has been so badly mismanaged, and Disney in such a shambles, that it's hard for me to feel excited because there's no guarantee anything will actually survive very long.
I mean... Episode 8 collapses with the question of "Where were the B-Wings?".

Star Wars has totally sucked lately. I'd be excited...but Disney has proved time and again that they'll ruin it. Again...and again...and again. They are totally incompetent.

Yep. It would be hard to have built up a nice retirement savings, and to have your golden years all planned out...only to be asked to give it all up for full-time church service until the day you die.

I’m agreeing with you when posting the following statement:

    President Ezra Taft Benson -
“The most important prophet, so far as we are concerned, is the one who is living in our day and age. This is the prophet who has today’s instructions from God to us. God’s revelation to Adam did not instruct Noah how to build the ark. Every generation has need of the ancient scripture, plus the current scripture from the living prophet. Therefore, the most crucial reading and pondering that you should do is of the latest inspired words from the Lord’s mouthpiece. That is why it is essential that you have access to and carefully read his words. …
Yes, we thank thee, O God, for a prophet to guide us in these latter days [see Hymns, no. 19]
Beware of those who would set up the dead prophets against the living prophets, for the living prophets always take precedence.“

It seems clear that both are needed, both are relevant, and scripture is ongoing.

I believe what @askandanswer was trying to say is what President Benson stated about the living prophet taking precedence. If I misunderstand, though, feel free to correct me.

As far as speculations go (which is what we're all doing here), yours is as valid as any other.  I don't think it's correct, but it's as good a guess as any.
I still don't have any guesses as to why he gave that talk, but I am reminded of something that happened a few years back in the political arena.  I think this happened in the US House of Representatives, but I might be mistaken.   A republican brought to the floor of the house, a bill taken word for word from their official republican platform, and the bill did not receive a single republican vote.  Instead, it received a little bit of condemnation from one or two republicans for being divisive and unwarranted (and some other criticisms).
Whelp, Elder Oaks brought to General Conference, a talk pretty much exclusively from the words of the Savior during his mortal ministry.  I just wanted to go on record that even if I hadn't already sustained him in the earlier vote, I would (and do) gladly sustain him and his comments, after that talk.  Those words are as important and valid for us today, as they were when first uttered.

How can they not know what is causing this? You're an MD...does your in-depth medical training lead you to any possible conclusions as to why this terrible spike in injuries amongst athletes is occurring?
What's worse is that this comes out during women's history month. It's just terrible that we aren't helping our women athletes more...

scottyg got a reaction from Traveler in Every ward has problems?
Our ward boundary changed about 3 years ago to include a large senior living community. Our primary went from 50-60 kids to about 20 kids now...if everyone comes. Both our YM and YW combined have 16 kids, 10 YM and 6 YW...and not all are active. When it comes to active Melchizedek priesthood holders that have a family and own their own home, I am one of two in his 30's, and there are only 5 in their 40's. There are 3 other young couples/singles with small kids, but they all live at home with their parents. Over 85% of our priesthood brethren are over the age of 50, and 2/3 are over age 60. Same goes for relief society, we have less than 10 sisters under age 50 in our ward. Within the next 10 years our ward boundaries will have to be changed as we will not have enough members physically able to serve in a ward. In 6 years we will only have 3 kids primary age. In 15 years 50% of our ward could be dead...and they will be replaced with more seniors.

We need to really watch the digital central bank currency.  There are some that want us to go to a cashless society.  If cash ever goes away it will only empower big banks, big business and government.
I use cash as often as I can with purchases.  I have the philosophy that if you stop using cash eventually it will go away.

Yes, and in Utah.  This from a teacher who is the grandson of my neighbors.  Even the teachers didn't have access until fairly close to the start of classes.  Everyone (else) was told that it was copyrighted material and if they wanted access, they'd have to pay the copyright owner (absurd amounts of money).  This was a subset of the curriculum, related to woke nonsense.  Grandson resigned over it because he refused to teach it.

That's basically the major point of the entire story.  I'd steer clear of accusations of abuse and getting CPS and the foster system involved if possible.  Horrible, horrible, tragic stories come out of foster care.
You can do much to make this kid welcome in your home.  You might be able to become the go-to parent figure.  A place where he does all his homework, gets rides, folks who pick him up for church, etc.  You can help keep him sane until he graduates and springs out of that place.  Honestly, if you can stand buddying up to the parents, your odds of having a positive impact in this kid's life might increase.  But he's not your kid, you shouldn't try to get the parents to change, you shouldn't find ways to gently urge them to parent differently.  This is a "let your light so shine" thing, not a "time to haul people into a disciplinary council" thing.

My circle of friends in HS and college included two girls.  Fun times in the one girl's parents' house for a full decade - really nice parents.  A couple of those years, one of the girls was living in the other girls' parents house.  It wasn't anything anyone thought about.  I didn't even think to ask why until years later.  But yeah, that stuff only happens when both sets of parents are down with it, and that's not something you can force.

I'm going to indulge myself on a little tangent here.
My father died a short while ago.  No need for sympathy or well wishes.  It was no tragedy for anyone, including my father.
My brother called me.  I hadn't spoken with him in 12 years.  He asked if I wanted my share of the inheritance.  I found that to be very interesting since I basically cut most of my ties with the family about 19 years ago.  (I had to speak with him 12 years ago for a special purpose.)
I hadn't spoken with anyone but my older sister in most of that time.  I made it clear that I was no longer a part of the family.  But they still wanted to share the inheritance.  That was mind-boggling.  We hear all the time about people fighting over inheritances.  But my family, which wasn't ever very close, was reaching out to me because they at least had a sense of fairness.  Crazy world.

Well, "all" is an overgeneralization.  The phenomenon is a pareto distribution:

You can put "number of sexual partners" on the Y axis, and "% of men" on the X axis, and you get this chart.  A tiny fraction of men have an outstandingly large number of sexual partners.  The rest of us, not so many.
You can put "economic power" on the Y, "% of humans" on the X, you get this chart. No matter what economic system you have.  A tiny fraction of humans end up in charge and owning most of the stuff.  The rest of us, not so much.
Same with rivers on planet earth, stars in the galaxy, and many other things.

Well, yes.  That’s why Rittenhouse had to be prosecuted.  You’ll note that relatively few asked why any of his three separate attackers had the temerity to be out in public wielding weapons on a riot night.  It was only (presumably) Republican Rittenhouse whose mere presence was a dead giveaway that the guy was obviously “looking for trouble”.
The prosecutor almost gave the game away when he told the jury “everybody takes a beating sometimes, right?”  What he meant, of course, was “Republicans—and merely normal people who challenge our rule—ought to take a beating sometimes, right?”

Yep.  Antifa doesn't give a crap about vax or antivax.  Antifa cares that there's right wingers marching somewhere for the cause of freedom.  Those are what Antifa calls "fascists", and they'll try to get ppl to show up and counterprotest.  If the counters are in sufficient numbers, they'll try to radicalize 'em, maybe get some direct actions going.
Antifa also showed up at the Wi Spa in July '21.  If we've forgotten, a trans woman went into the women's locker room and wandered around exposing her erect dingaling to the women and girls in that locker room.  Folks got mad, a video of someone complaining to uncaring staff went viral, people showed up to protest, and then antifa showed up and helped organize the counterprotestors to fight the fascists.  Again, they don't care about trans rights either, they only care about finding places where folks on the right are mad enough to march, and whizzing on their cheerios.
Sort of a prevalent attitude is "the left owns the streets, and anyone who says otherwise is a jackbooted nazi bootlicking alt-right fascist thug"
