  1. I totally agree with you. That’s a big fear of mine. Generally speaking I think religion is a good thing and people should at least try to keep a marginal/nominal faith. My fear is that arguments like this are 1) pointless and 2) might keep people from joining or exploring the faith. Also, with the rise of “nones” I fear we’ve passed the point of no return.
  2. No disagreement there, but it doesn’t address what I said. I go back to the Southern Baptists and Catholics. Both are plowing through members like you and I go through disposal razors. The SBC are focusing on getting liberals out of the church, the Catholics are focusing on getting conservatives out. Google “Synod on Synodality”. In the meantime, your average SBC pastor and Catholic priest are doing their best to keep what parishioners they have to keep coning to church. LDS bishops and SP’s are probably doing the same thing. They don’t care about “Protestant Mormons”. They just want LDS to show up in church. The labels are meaningless if the pews are empty.
  3. Do you think it has anything to do with age? Yes, I know it’s a generalization but it’s not always wrong. When I was active I noticed that (again, generally speaking) older people were more traditional, Gen X (my age) were more “nuanced” and young people either didn’t show up or were hanging on by a thread.
  4. I’m sort of an environmentalist but this is hyperbolic nonsense that doesn’t help the cause.
  5. Shoot the dog, not every single dog that was that breed.
  6. Uh, everyone forget that last post. Things are just fine in the compound down here.
  7. This coming from the guy who didn’t represent me in court because criminal law wasn’t his speciality.
  8. I never said that, but since you opened the door I’ll walk in. I’m sure some cops, while wonderful people and good at their job, believe things that are flat out wrong. Just being a cop doesn’t mean a cop has Godlike knowledge for all things criminal. Same with me and my job. Doctors for theirs. Lawyers for theirs. McDonalds associates for theirs.
  9. Trust the statistics and studies. I’m an evidence guy. Not feelings. Feelings are nice but they can often be wrong. And subjective.
  10. Didn’t Churchill call WW 2 the “unnecessary war” partially because of the Treaty of Versailles?
  11. I’m confident I’m not, but if you say so, sure.
  12. The Columbine massacre was understandable?
  13. I’m sympathetic to the Palestinian cause…until they go around murdering innocent civilians.
  14. This is blunt, but I don’t care. I’m as pro Israel as you get but even insinuating that all Palestinians are the same or deserve to be killed shows you don’t have a clue what you are talking about. No apologies.
  15. @JohnsonJones Lets twist this a bit. I keep hearing about how prevalent human trafficking is. I’ve been told how wrong I am and that it’s everywhere. I know of several incidents where people have been assaulted at LDS wards and have been criminally convicted. Therefore, I say we should immediately close all wards and no woman or child would be victimized ever again. ifyou can throw all Palestinians in the same boat it’s extremely hard to whine when someone does the same to you.
  16. Correct, because I asked for one sentence and you either were unable to do so or deliberately ignored me.
  17. Why stop at the Palestinians? Why not everyone who prays towards Mecca?
  18. I said one sentence. I didn’t read past the first sentence.
  19. I’m a very stupid man @JohnsonJones. In one sentence I want you to tell me if you are cool with eradicating a group of people from the Earth. One sentence.
  20. No. There, solved it for you. In one sentence!
  21. I don’t know where it came from but I have heard this said by Americans a few times. Usually after they make a self deprecating joke. “I’m so stupid bro.” “Don’t say that about yourself.” ”Just taking the Mickey out of myself.”
  22. Still the best found footage movie out there.
