  1. Funny, my wife is not addicted to porn by any means but some women where she works were talking about how great a book they had read was - '50 Shades of Gray', so when my wife went to the library this weekend she came home with it. Having heard about it (here I think or maybe on another board) I asked her if she was going to make an appointment with the Bishop or should I make one for her. Not knowing what I meant she gave me a funny look and asked what I meant, so I picked up the book, opened to a random page and handed it to her. She looked at it for about 10 seconds and took the book right back to the library. Satan is very good at moving people one baby step at a time towards where they should not be; TV Shows, commercials, billboards, radio shows, and 'popular' books and music can all move us away from the Spirit, its up to us to be vigilant.
  2. Many times its one of the Bishops counselors that gives the'yeah or nay'
  3. Snow is not the problem, ice storms are the problem in the deep south, you rarely get snow without getting freezing rain first. I lived in MN and WI for the first 31 years of my life and only remember freezing rain once. It's almost a yearly thing here in Texas. Happened twice this year (so far)
  4. I believe the reason the Church doesn't use the Girl Scout program is that they refused to change their annual Cookie Sale to an annual Jello Sale. That's the rumor I heard at least....... I heard it from a member in my ward whose third cousin's barber's sister in law is in the same ward as a G.A.'s sons dentist -- so its no doubt true. :)
  5. The South doesn't have the equipment the North does to handle a couple inches of snow, we also usually get freezing rain first then it turns to snow. We don't have snow plows or road salt for the most part either. And besides its more fun to stay at home with a hot chocolate in front of a fireplace than it is to go out and play dodge-em cars on the roads.
  6. Actually it says "God is spirit", there is no "a" in the verse. Also: If you think that means he has no body then since the same verse says you must worship him in spirit I guess you need to get out of your body to worship Him.
  7. Actually #1 is true. I received my draft notice and my Dad took me down to the recruiting office, set the letter and me on the counter and said "Here he is, I have his teddy bear in the car" They straightened it out.
  8. I was at a leadership meeting once where the Stake President told us if we didn't smell smoke or alcohol on some of our members were were not doing our callings correctly, as we should be inviting all to Come unto Christ and make working on their bad habits secondary. The Church is not a sanctuary for the perfect but an aid station to those in need.
  9. 1. I was drafted (into the Army) when I was 3 years old 2. I got a hole in one on my birthday at Bay Hill Golf Course in Orlando 3. I've been outside when the wind chill was -80F
  10. Yes, if its cool, but this is Texas so most of the year when working outside I wear shorts (and I only wear shorts around the house). But yes, I worked in my garden last weekend wearing dress pants, its what I wear. I don't like the heaviness of jeans and wouldn't be caught dead in sweats - some women can pull off the 'sweats' look, but IMO a guy should never wear them, they just make you look unkempt.
  11. I can not help it if you misinterpret what I say, which kind of helps to illustrate my point about misinterpreting documents.
  12. Dress pants - I don't own a pair of jeans or sweats Dress shirt for the most part, occasionally a casual shirt (golf shirt type) T-shirt if I am doing something grubby (working in the garden or garage)
  13. Not sure how you can claim both of the above are correct.
  14. Not sure what you read into my post but I was pointing out that there were no questions about dinosaurs, age of the earth, etc.
  15. Put away your crush, stop thinking about it, ignore it if it pops into your head: you are married, and the missionary is on a mission and should not be distracted. Will it be easy? probably not Is it do-able? yes of course.
  16. Nope, just pointing out how irrational some interpretations really are.
  17. Hmm, Elder Christofferson was here for a Stake Conference last fall and at the end invited all the children to come up and shake his hand.
  18. Actually, we have mans interpretation after all of the multiple translations of the Bible which seems to suggest that based upon a guess of how long each generation was. Personally I reject that particular interpretation and guess what? I still just got my Temple Recommend renewed yesterday (and there were no question about; the age of the Earth, how long mankind has been here, or anything about Dinosaurs). Must not be that important in the grand scheme of things.
  19. The usage of the seer stone used to bother me, however the Urim and Thummin are also seer stones, yes they are set in a bow and attached to a breastplate yet they are still stones. You get right down to it the glass front of my Android Phone is fused sand (glass) making it a type of stone also and I can see all sorts of things on my phone. Could God make words appear on a piece of stone or crystal? (especially since Steve Jobs had that ability also - meaning an iPhone) --- To carry it even further: Would an early 18th century man recognize solid state electronics and a small view screen or would they call it a 'seer stone' and put it inside a hat to cut down on the suns glare? Just throwing out a few thoughts here.
  20. I never answer calls from numbers I don't know - that's what voice mail is for. I don't answer when its someone I know if I don't feel like talking to them at the moment. Sorry but its my time and my phone - I'll use it how I choose.
  21. When you consider how many people have their faces buried in their phones these days, the Seer stone doesn't seen as strange as it used to.
  22. Which is usually defined as someone who does not believe what I believe. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you on this, ignorant voters mess up the whole system, but what is the test? who determines?
  23. Time for a new campaign spending rule: No candidate or group(PAC) campaigning for a candidate (combined) can spend more than the annual salary that office makes.
  24. Actually in parts of the country, you can. Rest at home forever? Home burials surprisingly legal - MSN Real Estate
  25. The Gospel Principles manual to me is the best tool there is for teaching people what we believe.
