  1. I really hate it when a M.P. does stuff like that, we had one that wouldn't let missionaries go to a members house for dinner unless an investigator was there. His missionaries started loosing weight quickly, thankfully it only lasted a few months.
  2. Home made pizza's Lasagna Hamburgers and Hot Dogs on the grill (chips, baked beans, etc)
  3. From the Church Handbook of Instructions:
  4. Rain, a Beatles tribute band, pretty good. a couple months ago.
  5. Yeah, that really blew me away when we had moved and gotten a new dentist that made his own crowns.
  6. Never had a problem with Dish, had it at two homes. Just got too expensive for 200 channels: 195 of which were IMHO garbage These days we hook up a laptop via HDMI cable and do Hulu Plus($7.99 a month), Netfilx ($7.99 a month)) and Project Free TV (free) and watch exactly what we want when we want without all the sitting and mindlessly surfing channels. You do have to have a decent internet connection with no caps on usage - we have Verizon FIOS
  7. We have each others passwords to everything. But unless invited we don't invade each others email, texts, etc. And while my wife will wear one of my (colored) T-Shirts to bed she stretches it out in places I don't have places to stretch, so now she's the permanent user of 2 of my T-Shirts.
  8. Nailed it exactly to where I spent my first 31 years of life - Minneapolis/St Paul area.
  9. Actually the above is not true. I know of 7 people in my office that quit smoking after switching to electronic cigarettes.
  10. I personally believe God knows how far we will go with Him and does not lead people further than they are able to go. There are many good people in other Churches following God and having spiritual experiences that are just not willing or able to commit to the Covenants we do. That doesn't mean God does love them and give them spiritual experiences.
  11. Different people follow their Covenants differently. I will cook with wine at times, others wouldn't be caught dead with wine in the house. Some people won't drink caffeinated soda, others have no problem with it. Some people relax their garment standards while on vacation some do not. Some of the Young Women (and older women) in my ward wear dresses/skirts a few inches above the knee, others wouldn't be caught dead with their knee's showing. Rather than judging others I prefer to judge myself. Am I living up to my covenants? Just because Sister X drinks Mountain Dew or Elder Y wears a muscle shirt on their honeymoon doesn't mean the Gospel is no longer true or that the garment's meaning are not what is taught. It means people are humans and humans are imperfect and have different understandings and practices of Gospel Principles.
  12. What security/privacy risks do you think there would be?
  13. Does your computer and the TV have HDMI capability? Meaning can you plug an HDMI cable into both? If not, do you have a game system? Wii, X-Box, play station have netflix/hulu/amazon Prime capability. Otherwise Roku or Chromecast are your choices. I know very little about Chromecast but Roku's been around for a while.
  14. Not sure what to tell you. DW and I are also the only converts in our families and while nothing has really been said openly I know some members of both our families do not like the Church. Your sister is an adult and can choose to still be offended by what she does not understand. You will have to judge for yourself what she would be willing to listen to about the Church and the Temple. It may be worth it or it may not be. - - - I have a feeling that many Churches will stop officiating weddings due to the changes in marriage laws. The Church could still hold Sealing's in its Temples after a civil ceremony, similar to how they do in England.
  15. I didn't know you knew my wife. She's been insulin dependent for about 10 years now and pretty much eats what she wants. I try not to have sweets in the house and we do both limit our portions, but she still does not take care of herself. There really is not much you can do with an adult, they have their freedom to choose. But yeah, sometimes I think I'm more worried about her diabetes than she is.
  16. Yes No Pertinent section of the Church Handbook of Instructions. Nothing in it about either of the above, thus there are no rules about it. https://www.lds.org/handbook/handbook-2-administering-the-church/priesthood-ordinances-and-blessings/20?lang=eng#204
  17. BBQ Pork Ribs Smoked Brisket Collard Greens Mashed Potatoes Sweet Potato Pie Can y'all tell we're in Texas?
  18. Wow, I thought my wife and I started out long distance, but that was just me in Florida and her in Texas. I personally liked not being close when we first me, we got to know each other as a person before ever meeting in person. Eventually we both knew each other was 'the one' and on our next visit I 'popped the question'. I would say continue the relationship via; email, letter, phone, text, or however you prefer. If its meant to be it will be, if not then it won't, but don't let distance stop you from finding out.
  19. One BIG mistake I had when newly married was that I expected my wife to be just like me, like the same thing, do the same things, never disagree -- Guess what? a wife is a person too and brings differences into a marriage, is it rough? it can be. Is it a challenge? - of course. Is it worth it? Definitely Thank God my wife has a mind of her own and its different than mine, but as a young newly married man I didn't see it that way, now a "loooong' time later I thank God for those differences. my 2 cents.
  20. No, both are quasi-Mormon sites. With no actual or implied connection to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints other than that a member(s) owns the website. I'm Mormon and I own a website too, so is anything I post on it official and 100% true and correct? do you know my source for anything I post? I may be copying another website, that copied from a different website , etc etc etc If it really is an actual and an accurate First Presidency letter than someone should be able to show it from an official source.
  21. I made a couple of corrections (I capitalized/bolded ONLY to show what was my input and NOT to 'yell') I've gone to a show a number of Christmas Days too, but I just couldn't let misconceptions about reasons for doing something stand.
  22. Sure, we LDS Covenant not to drink coffee/tea. The rest of the world (non-LDS) are not under that Covenant
  23. Sorry, I should have clarified, from what official Church source? Doing a google search brings up a multitude of Anti-LDS sites and a smaller number of quasi-Mormon sites, but I don't see anything on LDS.org or its sister websites.
