  1. Thanks for the links, I've just signed up to CTRmatch.com, have already signed up to Ldsmingle, but found the subs a little too much for me at the moment...CTRmatch had a much better deal..
  2. I think I may have known a possible psychopath. My ex-boyfriend's daughter. She was 16 when I met him, she'd already beaten her mother so badly that she was now deaf in one ear, (the mother and father are now separated/possibly divorced), she deliberately harmed her older and younger brothers, some only in small ways, others not so small, she took care of the family gerbils by moving them into a cage with the family pet rats who then killed them, and recently had to be reported to both social services and the RSPCA because she and her boyfriend had tortured and injured their pet kitten so badly...broken pelvis, blinded in one eye, ear ripped off, etc. that the vet had to put the poor creature to sleep..in fact when the vet asked the couple to bring the kitten back to be put to sleep they refused to do so which is when the social services and rspca got involved...Social Services were involved because they have a baby and they were afraid of the tendency for abusers of animals to also abusse (physically) children...unfortunately no charges could be brought against them as they each blamed the other for the cruelty...so maybe that's 2 psychopaths I've met!
  3. Hi Nick/Convert90, welcome to the site, I'm pleased to hear you're enjoying the church, Congratulations :)
  4. Hi Cullen, welcome to the site, hope you enjoy yourself here :)
  5. Guitarwizard, the Missionaries here do have existing members of the church with them when teaching new members/investigators, I think that Funkytown hit the nail on the head regarding new members, particularly those who are single, finding that the time that some existing members of the church can spend with them is limited due to their own family commitments, and it can be difficult to find other single new members of your own age group to form new friendships with..we are trying to overcome some of this in the single adult programme in our ward currently..
  6. I was a non-mormon LDS for the 4 years that I attended the church in my teens. I wanted to get Baptised but wasn't allowed to...parental permission, being a schoolgirl Roman Catholic, but I did whatever I could to be a 'member', lived the LDS lifestyle, took Sacrament and attended Seminary and other groups/MIA etc. So I think the answer is yes, you can be a non-mormon LDS, up to a point :)
  7. At relief society last week (not this Sunday, I was too ill to attend), we talked quite a lot about how to help prevent people from becoming inactive. Something that keeps coming up locally, with our new members, is the fact that they feel a little abandoned by the Missionaries once they're Baptised..they realise that the Missionaries have to move onto teaching new investigators, and that they only visit less often to do new member lessons, but some have stated how surprised they were to find this was going to happen only after they'd been Baptised, nobody warned them beforehand and they didn't feel they had made enough close friendships with other members of the church to feel included. Some of the Missionaries expressed their own dissatisfaction with the way things work in our ward too, that some of the members are cliquey and that this doesn't help them in their Missionary efforts either, there was even talk of the ward being reprimanded because of it, and possibly having 2 of the 4 Missionaries taken off it unless things improved with existing members... So, obviously continuing support for investigators and new members is required in order to help them adapt to the changes in their lifestyles, some of them having left behind their old set of friends/circumstances in order to live the 'Mormon' way of life more easily, and less judgemental attitude to those who are struggling are just 2 of the needs that we have in our ward.
  8. Hi wrbeattie..welcome to the site, I'm glad you enjoyed yourself at church today, I was feeling ill so couldn't attend, unfortunately..hope you enjoy the site :)

  11. Hi TheMoore...welcome to the site..I hope you enjoy it here..congrats. on returning to the church, I did so too, this year! The little line at the bottom of some people's posts is their Signature..you go into my account, and edit the settings there, I believe...just mess around in that section of the site and see what it suggests.. :)
  12. Hi Bren, hope you enjoy this site and feel welcome! :)
  13. I have an enquiry to make, regarding the sizing of the garments...I noticed that the garments/temple suits hired from the temple were sized S, M, L, XL, XXL etc. but I wasn't sure if this is the way the garments are sized which are for sale in the distribution centres...I wondered about finding the correct size if they are just sized as above, as I would imagine that they were a non-returnable item once worn? or that they are an item which you would not normally go into a changing room at the shop to try on for size?
  14. Place a link to the sites in your signature on whichever forums you visit, and at the foot of all your emails?
  15. Oh I try not to be a pushy person at all. I'm a vegetarian and have lots of friends who are carnivores, sometimes I make them a meat free Spaghetti Bolognese or Chilli, without telling them, just to see if they enjoy it...I then reveal that it was meat free, but I don't force my vegetarianism on my kids or anything, they eat meat as well as some meat free dishes. I do get on my soap box sometimes, usually over politics rather than religion, but I think being pushy just pushes people away from you and whatever it is you're sharing, gentle persuasion is much preferred, lol :)
  16. Great! It is easy to get bogged down with all the negative sounding things that religions ask you to do, such as dietary restrictions and whatnot, but as you say, you have to see the positive side of those conditions before you can make your mind up to follow that particular religion. Good Luck in your search, whether you end up a practising Latter-Day Saint or belonging to another religion.
  17. We've had recent missionaries from Utah, South Africa, Sweden and the UK. I remember some sister missionaries back in the late 70's from Belgium and the US.
  18. Hi Lina! Welcome to the site, I hope you have fun exploring the forums and learning more about the LDS church. You would be as well to check out The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or Mormon.org if you want the 'official' church doctrine information. Have you any idea what it is about a religious organisation that attracts you? Why you want to be involved in a religious group? What you are looking to find from religion in general?
  19. This month's SA Stake Fireside has just been cancelled, apparently they are reorganisingthe SA Committee for our Stake, so I haven't yet been given the name/contact details for the Stake SA Rep.. I've got the letter and questionnaire ready to print, and a little poster advertising the SA programme in the ward, just to make people prick their ears up and get involved, there's also a joint Stake event taking place in September, which sounds really interesting, I'd like to attend it myself, with others, the only problem is that it has room for only 10 people from each Stake attending, on a first come, first served basis so could be a struggle getting a place on it..I live in hope..
  20. I've just been called as the ward Single Adult Rep, for those SAs aged 31+. I did a quick ring around the other night, to introduce myself to some on the list I was given, and found that most of our ward's single adults are aged 50/60+, the eldest ones are in their 80's! I'm composing a letter and questionnaire to send to those on the list, asking what activities they'd like to take part in, frequency, best day of week and time of day, whether they have transport to offer lifts to others and such, now I just have to think up some initial activities to get the ball rolling... We also have a larger female to male ratio which makes it difficult for those members looking for lurve..lol, I wonder if I contacted the SA reps from other wards within our stake, I could try to arrange some joint ward activities, so we get to meet others nearby? Anyone got any good ideas? :)
  21. Hi, welcome to the site, hope you enjoy it here...I'm a divorcee too! :)

  23. Great post Elphie..what are the names of the 2 books/journals you've read about the Fundamentalists, they sound like they might be interesting?
  24. What a refreshing thread! :) Weren't LDS women in Utah some of the forerunners of Women getting the vote?
  25. My family is the overwhelming thought I have.. BandNerd, thanks for printing that YW's verse (or whatever you call it), since I returned to church in January, I've heard the YW and RS sisters reciting this once a month and have never been able to find a copy of it so that I can learn the words!! :)
