  1. I live relatively close to the Preston/Chorley Temple and would love to get together with other UK members there, or at the London Temple at a push..I've always been interested in visiting the London Temple, it would just be a little more awkward for me to get there, that's all.
  2. I have to agree with Canuck, that teachers do sometimes have a rough time at catching the offending kids, children being children you often find that the bullied kid is befriended by the bully from time to time, coaxing them into a false sense of security...only to find that the bullying resumes after a while and the teachers observing 'watching' the children to see what is happening only see the 2 as friends, the bullying being done away from the view of teaching staff.. I have experienced both good and bad teaching staff where bullying is concerned...or should I say staff that is more intuitive than others at times.. Any form of bullying ought to be nipped in the bud from the word 'go', I understand, however, that children who are being bullied are sometimes afraid of reporting the bullying to the teaching staff, in fear of reprisals by the bully...
  3. As a new member of the church with curves..especially around the bust, I have the same problem. My clothes have never been exceptionally immodest, but my bust does make normally modest clothing look a little immodest for church. I took a member of the church along with me on a recent shopping trip, even the modest clothes had necklines or v's that were too low for my bust size! I ended up buying a couple of modest blouses that I then pinned a little brooch to, at the centre of my bust, so that I was covered up a little more...I want to buy some suitable summer clothing, and guess that it's gonna be pretty difficult for me!!
  4. This is a sad story. I can empathise with the boy in the article and with his parents as I was bullied at school and so were my children. Fortunately, my son never experienced physical bullying, but he endured more than 3 years of verbal abuse, phone calls, name calling, and offensive remarks about me and the family in general. It was too much for him and he requested that he be moved to another school at the end of the last Summer holidays. He had requested to be moved before this, but I was of the opinion that it should be the bullies that were forced to move schools, rather than the bullied, however that wasn't going to happen so I allowed my son to move school at the beginning of the new Autumn term. He didn't miss 1 day of schooling, and has been the happiest I've seen him for years since changing school. His homework and coursework are improving, his grades too!! My daughter experienced a little physical bullying at her junior school, she also experienced the name calling, being ignored and rumours being spread about her amongst other things. Things came to a head when one of her teachers made her stand in front of the class while all the other kids had to say why they picked on her..it was a heartbreaking experience, just listening to what had happened broke my heart..how could children as young as 8 or 9 be that cruel? A year or two before that, my daughter had been off school lots because of severe asthma (suspected to be Cystic Fibrosis at the time, fortunately it wasn't), a supply teacher told us that it was to be expected that she would be bullied as 'kids that age soon forget who a pupil is if they're off school for 2 or 3 weeks at a time, frequently'...what BS! My daughter had known some of these kids since she was 3, they definitely didn't forget who she was...My daughter didn't change schools and her bullying continued into Secondary school, she had little self esteem by the time she was 15, was afraid to enter the classroom if she was a minute or so late, she is still suffering the after-effects of it all. My visits to the schools were frequent while my kids were being bullied, unfortunately the schoolteachers (most of them) just saw my kids as being typical 'victims', they were sensitive and kind, the teachers loved them, but the kids were cruel. Yes I would turn back the clock and remove both my kids from school if I could have the time over again. I do believe that more ought to be done to deal with the reasons why bullies bully tho, as I'm aware that often the bullies themselves have poor self esteem issues and sometimes family problems affecting them.
  5. Happy Birthday Begood2, long time no see!! :)
  6. I watched the movie and found it extremely moving. Yes it was brutal, gory, uncomfortable to watch at those points, but as previously stated by other posters, the brutality was necessary for the effect of the movie upon its viewers. I was especially moved by the effects of the suffering of Christ upon his mother, Mary... Yes, it moved me to tears too..I would watch it again, however.
  7. Aphrodite, I'm sorry to hear of Rob's nan's passing, and to hear that you didn't make it to the funeral. I hope that your journey to her Memorial will be more successful, and hope that you and Rob will pull together to comfort each other at this time.. All the best, Michele xx
  8. LOL! Thank you Doc. you really know how to make me feel good! :)
  9. I haven't experienced any negativity personally, yet, so I will refrain from answering your question...I hope that I continue to not experience any negativity :)

  11. My ex husband is a fan of James Bond films and books. I read Live And Let Die, and really enjoyed it, I'm not too keen on the Bond movies however, just the other week Diamonds Are Forever was shown on UK TV and I saw the final scene..I couldn't believe how hammy it was!! I was around 7 the 1st time I watched that, and probably took it really seriously at the time, lol :)
  12. I hope you're feeling better now Charley, you're in my prayers.
  13. Just a quickie from a newly Baptised, single, 40+, female in the UK... Can you give us any examples (without names etc.) of the kinds of actions that have made you feel the women are more worldly, egotistical, less respecting of PH these days? The answer you provide to the question above could give us women clues as to the types of behaviours we might be displaying, which you unwittingly assume mean we are more worldly etc. Now that I have become a member of the church, I would prefer to meet, if I meet anybody at all, members of the Church, whether they currently hold the PH or not, or a Temple Recommend or not (I don't wish to pass judgement on somebody just because they don't currently hold the PH or a TR, without them explaining the reasons to me if we start dating and if the reasons are relevant to our relationship). Like Gabelma and others have stated, it is a person's personality, interests, attitudes to each other that are important in a successful relationship. Holding the PH and a current TR are more like bonuses.. I get the impression that you're still angered by your divorce, and perhaps would benefit from space to develop friendships with other women at this stage, rather than focussing on whether or not a person is ideal marriage fodder :)
  14. Wow! Willow, I hope the situation improves for your daughter's Seminary classes. I recall that, when I took a Seminary Course back in 1979, we just held once a week classes at the Burnley Ward on Saturday mornings...I don't think I'd have coped with it every morning before school!! Have you tried asking the parents of the other family if they might assist you with driving your daughter back home following the class? Or are they all eager to get back to bed following the class, lol :)
  15. Every experience, every day of our lives, influences us in some way or other...that doesn't mean that we are not responsible for our actions because we have been influenced by something or other... We can choose to ignore negative influences in our lives, and so choose to take positive actions... Our thoughts are always our own, irregardless of any influences, good or bad, in our lives..therefore we are always responsible for our actions except for in the example I stated in my first reply.
  16. I think we have the free will to choose whether to do that which somebody may manipulate us into doing, if we feel deep down that the action is a wrong action yet we still choose to do it, that is exercising our free will in spite of being manipulated one way or another...we could also refuse to do the action that we know is wrong even tho somebody is manipulating us to do it...that is exercising our free will too... When we meet a manipulative person, and that person influences us, our thoughts still belong to us, ultimately, they do not belong to that other person...however, if we have some sort of mental retardation, we could be said to have had diminished responsibility to the wrong action that we have taken...
  17. Have you heard of a canary? A budgie is like that only a different colour...google image will show you plenty of budgies if you ask.. Read...I do enjoy reflective writing, but I prefer to read.. Cooking or Baking?
  18. No, you're not cheating... I can't choose between those two, cos I love them both just as much as each other at one time or another.. Budgie or Parrot?
  19. Hi HomeAgain...great to meet you! :) I used to attend the LDS church back in the 1970/80's, till around 1982, then stopped attending because I was steady dating a non-member who persuaded me to think twice about becoming LDS, I was never Baptised. After 26 years, I just returned in January this year, and was Baptised on Feb 16th. It is the good feelings I get when attending the church and meeting with other members, that makes me feel good about having returned after all these years, and having finally made a commitment (thru Baptism) to become a Member rather than stay an investigator.
  20. If you're talking about wearing them with sandals...no show (I don't wear socks with sandals and very rarely with trainers, tho I should...) American Idol or The X Factor...
  21. St Patrick's Day!!! :) (my ancestors were Irish) I won't be getting drunk this year, lol :) bicycles or motorcycles?
  22. Well I've been around since March 2003, so not doing too bad myself... I remember Bat, The Proud Duck, and many more who's names I can't recall just now...
  23. Eeekk...truth I think! Walnuts or Brazil Nuts?
  24. I've read your PDF, it was interesting. I'm gonna take a look at your website and Daniel's Challenge to see if it is adaptable to a vegetarian diet which includes eating Quorn meat substitute products.. I gained lots of weight prior to having heart surgery back in the 90's and only lost that weight after attending sessions at the gym for 2 1/2 years as well as adopting a better diet...I have now gradually regained the weight plus much more in the last 10 years, and have extra health problems as a result: Type 2 Diabetes, Hi BP and Cholestrol and increased pain from Arthritis...I'm currently seeking to start another regime at the gym, as soon as I'm able to have an induction for the Fitness For Life programme which the NHS offers for patients suffering from a variety of conditions, it is a reduced price exercise plan where nutrition and health is discussed at some of the groups, I had hoped to start the programme in January but the waiting list for our local scheme doesn't allow me to have my induction till April!! Unfortunately I did stop attending the gym once I'd previously lost my excess weight, I wish now that I'd never stopped I found your PDF very easy to read/follow, and look forward to hearing more from you on the site..thanks :)
