  1. SusieSA and SundaeSarah, thanks very much for the extra website links you provided. I will check them out asap! I've been told that the UK keeps Census reports private for around 100 years, so obviously that source is not going to be of much use for me for aunties/uncles/cousins etc. born in the 1900's, but I will try my best to keep searching on the other sites available, and to keep checking out others' trees on GenesReunited..I've managed to trace family relations on my mother's father's side of the family back to 1776, but obviously I don't have all the birthdates for those people, mainly just their year of birth or circa year of birth.. Thanks for all the help everybody! :)
  2. Awww...that's sad Willow, I presume they're held annually?
  3. Do all stakes, around the world, generally hold their Relief Society Days on the same week? I haven't yet heard about any day for the Chorley stake RS, unless it's already occurred.Sounds like an interesting event, btw.
  4. I just want to add my support regarding your situation, Jessica. My mum was physically abused for 27 years of her marriage..she never left my dad and they're sort of okay now he's older and less aggressive, but the scars run deep from his abuse, not only in my mum but in me and my siblings too.. No woman deserves to be bullied, abused, blamed for things that are not her fault, or have their partners commit adultery... No child deserves to witness these things being done to their mother... I hope you have the strength and support to do the right thing for yourself and your children..
  5. I remember this being posted a while back, and I could make her change directions at that time. This time I thought I wasn't gonna be able to do so, at first, but then I concentrated on either the lower left or right side of her head and she spun the opposite way..:) LOL at porn LMM!!
  6. Heather, thanks for creating the new forum and for copying the youtube clips to it... I did manage 1 session of the GC broadcast at the Chorley Stakehouse last Saturday, but was too uncomfortable in the wooden pew to go back the next day..I will be able to concentrate more on the talks too, watching them alone, online at home. :)
  7. Lack of a companion.. I miss the affectionate cuddles, hugs, laughing together at silly things, chatting endlessly about random things, sharing takeaways and movies, playing games on the computer together.. I miss thinking that I'm special to somebody..

    Finances

Aphrodite, have you tried your local Citizens Advice Bureaux? I consulted mine when I had debt of between £1000 and £2000. They rang up the people I owed money to, and set up financial plans with them. They also assisted me in compiling a budget of my income/outgoings, so that I could work towards it each week. Good Luck with getting out of debt, I hope you resolve the matters soon! :)
  9. Well Said JustMiss..I think Rameumptom was being just a little unfair to, and judgemental of Holly.. NB to Rameumptom, I made this post before I read your post above mine..it wasn't showing on my PC at the time I posted. Sorry for any upset caused!
  10. LOL re Winston Churchill!! I'm guessing that the age group of the survey were teenagers or younger? If not, then those people have certainly not been reading their history books.. The impression I get around where I live, is that there are plenty of Christians, from all sorts of Denominations...perhaps schoolkids being taught in secular schools, who's families don't attend church regularly, or at all, may not know much about Christianity, but I doubt that also as my son has recently transferred to a secular school (he was formerly at our Roman Catholic school), and he has regular religious lessons where both Christianity and Islam are taught (Islam because there is a large Islamic community where I live). When I was a child, I was taken out of my mainstream school, due to illness, and was taught at a secular school and we had basic religious/Christianity lessons and assemblies...can't vouch for other countries mind you, but I think the UK is pretty Christian, old Henry VIII and the Church of England and all that...
  11. Well, being sealed to somebody I really love is an exciting prospect for me...and the Wedding Ceremony beforehand, for myself and my non-member family and non-member friends. Trouble is, I just have to find a suitable bloke now...I've got my eye on a couple locally, now how can I get them to notice, and more importantly, to like me? LOL :)
  12. Just a little facetiousness Fiannan...can you back up your claim that the Europeans know pretty much nothing about Christianity? I think you'll find plenty of Christianity in countries such as Spain, Italy and Greece at least.. not to mention a few others...or do you not consider the people of overly Roman Catholic countries (at least in the past!) to know much of Christianity?
  13. Willow, I'm sad to hear of your Bishop's attitude towards you escorting/chaperoning your own daughter and her friend to this event. I hope that you will feel strong enough to follow the advice given by the other posters here, without feeling disrespectful to your Bishop, and that your daughter and her friend will be able to attend...
  14. I believe stem ginger or even ginger nut biscuits or gingerbread men...maybe you could find a website that lists the best way to eat ginger in order for it to help in this case.
  15. Morningstar, I'm sorry to hear you're suffering from the dreaded pregnancy sickness. I used to turn green at work, apparently, according to my workmates, but was never sick, fortunately. I can recommend ginger to settle your tummy, if you haven't already tried it...I found with my 2nd pregnancy that I could only eat quite bland food, mashed potato and salads...turned me into a cheap night out and helped with the weight, lol. I hope you feel better soon... :)
  16. I attended the early evening session at our stake house tonight, 5-7pm, which was the 1st session of the GC, with the Solemn Assembly taking place 1st. I did enjoy the talks, and the choir, but I was rather restless being seated on a pew for 2 hours...don't know how I'm gonna cope tomorrow, as I've offered to go from 1pm till 7pm...Now I'm wondering whether the 1pm session is just gonna be a repeat of tonight's 1st session..might have to ring around and find out, don't want to go there for a repeat, lol. I'm terrible for yawning too, even if I'm enjoying something, if it's solemn, quietly spoken or what not, the yawns just keep on coming...terribly embarrassing!! :)
  17. Methinks me might have encountered Super Saturdays many eons ago...don't know if Burnley holds them these days tho..
  18. Eeeek!! Stop with the horror stories, you're putting me off!! I recall attending GC meetings many years ago, over in the Preston Stake House. Nowadays we have to go to Chorley to watch it via satellite (I think). I've offered to attend all, or most sessions, depending on who's taking me there, and which ones they're going to. I've never attended in Chorley before, so I'm not sure at what times the GC is showing, or whether refreshments are offered between sessions...sounds like it's gonna be an interesting weekend for me...think I'll take a supply of sandwiches, fruit and drinks for the days.
  19. Hi Alaska, thanks for the extra information regarding the Church based programmes for searching for family members. I haven't paid for the membership to ancestry.com, fortunately, although I have friends in my local ward who have paid £80 for a year's membership. They have found plenty of names, but I think they are finding the names from census reports rather than from Births/Marriage/Deaths records. Thanks for the tip to ask at the Library regarding access to these details, and for the homepage of the FreeBMD website. I have thought about approaching a local Roman Catholic Church which may have additional marriage records for some of my family members... Tomorrow I may be going to the Family History Centre in Chorley, so hopefully they too will be able to advise me more clearly on how to search records without having to pay a fortune for it!! I do enjoy searching for family members, but it has my head spinning lots of the time, lol :)
  20. Strawberry, I'm very sorry to hear of your father's deterioration...I wish you all the strength in the world to get you through this time. I'm also very sorry to learn that you are still suffering the effects of your son's accident. I won't try to offer any advice about forgiving his boss..only you can aim towards finding forgiveness for him at your own pace...I'm just so sorry to hear that you are still suffering so much because of his negligence...
  21. I've just taken up a free 14 day trial at a UK based (although there is a US version of the site which shares my information) website called Genealogy and Family History Records - Ancestry.co.uk I am having some difficulty with the search options as I can easily find some older relatives' details from census reports pre 1902 (1841/51/61/71/81/91 or 1901) but have difficulty finding birth/marriage/death details for anyone after this period, unless they were married from 1984 onward, or died from that year onward... Sometimes I find the references for the documents such as marriage certs. and death certs. but it doesn't show the actual certificates, so gaining much information from them is difficult..eg. I can find details of my marriage, showing mine and my husband's names, but it doesn't give any other details such as in-laws names, our birth dates or anything like that. Does anyone know if we have to try to obtain birth certs. for people if we cannot gain that info from relatives? Just how much detailed information is needed for ancestors, in order to have them fully prepared to submit to the Temple to see if work has been done for them already, or to do the work for them? Do the Family History centres have access to birth/marriage/death details that are normally not available via websites or without the documentation being sent off for?
  22. Aphrodite, it would be good to be able to meet you, even if you wouldn't be allowed inside the Temple..I am only allowed to go to the Temple to do Baptisms on a group recommend, and the last time our ward went for that purpose, something cropped up and I had to cancel.. Willow, a group of people from our ward are going to the Family History Centre from 12pm till 2pm on Tuesday afternoon...if you're going to be around between those times, perhaps you could pop in to say hello, unless you're just going into the Temple itself. I've got to wait for confirmation that I've got a lift before I know for definite if I can get there...(I believe there is a bus that runs directly from one of the train stations just before Preston, that takes you directly to where the Temple is situated, or you can get a connecting train from Preston to Chorley..check out the National Rail Enquiries website for more details).
  23. I could do with some help in this matter too..I often go to bed too late, however even on the days/evenings when I'm 'good' and get a satisfactory night's sleep I'm sluggish the next morning. I've just been on a weekend relaxing break, just Saturday afternoon till Sunday afternoon, and felt quite full of energy yesterday, was looking forward to the country walk today, but after 6 1/2 hours sleep I felt like a zombie at breakfast time...this was the one time I craved a cup of coffee!! I had to go back to sleep for an hour, a couple of hours after breakfast and was too shattered to do the walk afterall When I got home I was shattered and had to sleep for the afternoon too!!
  24. Hey! Great article!! Bananas are one of my all time favourite foods! Their high iron content could explain why I've never become anaemic since turning vegetarian 20 years ago..I used to be, generally, a junk food vegetarian so was always amazed at my good iron levels in blood tests! Nice to hear of some of the other benefits of Bananas, skins and all... Just one question here, recently I've been eating a banana a day, for a few months, and note that the Potassium in foods can counteract the effects of Warfarin on 'thinning' the blood..could this explain why my levels of warfarin have had to be constantly increased since January? I hope they don't recommend that I cease my 1 banana a day diet
