  1. Wow, Anddenex, I don't remember a post of yours that was ever so full of stuff that was just plain not true. No they're not. You're ignoring a critical distinction. Soldiers are pointed at external threats, police are pointed at the citizenry. Different laws, rules, policies, methods govern each group. They are not the same, and saying they are is just ignoring reality. Say it as many different ways and times as you like, it doesn't make it true. I love your use of the scary word 'militant', Anddenex. So synonymous with 'aggressive dangerous fanatic'. Honestly, I've found your posts to be more level-headed than this. How did such goofy sensationalistic notions find place in your otherwise rational brain? I agree, but again, changing the definition of words just so you can pretend things are what they're not, isn't the best way to go about protecting our freedom. No it wasn't, and no they didn't. Because police aren't soldiers. Even if they were wearing scary militant looking protective equipment that scares people and makes for good scary stories. In the quest to be appropriately righteously indignant, it's important to be talking about the correct amendment. Cops aren't soldiers. I'm thinking that's most likely true. If any amendment is being violated here, it's the Fourth. The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. Again, Glenn Beck, of all people, should already know this. I love his zeal and his mindset. I admire him for the stories he's broken, and the genuine threats to our constitution he's found. But for this story to show up on the Blaze, holding up the third amendment, well, he continues to be just a sensationalistic lightweight.
  2. "Grief" doesn't make any sense. Historically, whenever there's killing or dying going on, State 3 has been the best stage for recruiting armies and bodyguards and zealots willing to die for the cause and whatnot.
  3. Hi echo and welcome!
  4. Cops aren't soldiers. It was just as true then as it is now. The family may or may not have a gripe, but they have no 3rd Amendment gripe. I would have thought that if anyone understood that, Glenn Beck would...
  5. Sorry, let me rephrase my advice, then:Get to know a few tattooed people. Become friends with them. Don't learn about how they got their tattoos, learn about who they are. And let them know who you are. To the extent that you can't keep yourself from getting the creeps/feeling that you're looking at something unnatural/getting sick to your stomach/feeling irritated that someone did that to their body, invite them to cast opinions about your strengths and weaknesses. It gets harder (for me anyway) to get the creeps/feel that I'm looking at something unnatural/get sick to my stomach/feel irritated at someone's actions, after I've shared a few ups and downs with someone. Is this better?
  6. Welcome confusedguy. Kudos for striving to be worthy. It must stink to not be able to see your child. If you do get to go on a mission, good deal. Throw yourself into service of your God. If your paperwork is rejected, well, that's a good deal too if you look at it differently. If that happens, you should still throw yourself into service of your God - it just won't be as a full time missionary.
  7. Get to know a few tattooed people. Become friends with them. Don't learn about how they got their tattoos, learn about who they are. And let them know who you are. To the extent that you can't keep yourself from judging, invite them to cast opinions about your strengths and weaknesses too. It gets harder (for me anyway) to judge unrighteously, after I've shared a few ups and downs with someone.
  8. Wingnut - Read and learn. It might seem a little less creepy if you knew a little more about the phenomenon. To the point of the thread, the internet introduced the gospel to a Canadian Athiest Brony. Instead of being creeped out when he shows up, maybe we could be a little, I dunno, friendly?
  9. Just did. Came to the same conclusion. And I notice you didn't answer any of my questions.
  10. I have a beautiful wife that loves me and I need to be worthy in her eyes and hers alone :) Not to other man/woman/nor man made entity humans conjure up to deal with certain human issues that can be easily explained without these entities. You know those entities, well you may not know how many we've conjured up...we are pretty good at that : [...] El [...]Jesus [...]Yhwh Just out of curiosity, do you honestly believe that coming to lds.net, and telling us our God is conjured up, is useful or fruitful or conducive to positive discussion in some way? Did you even bother reading the site rules before clicking the little "I agree to our Terms & Conditions" box? Tell me, do you feel even the least bit annoyed with yourself for agreeing to do and not do certain things, and break your agreement within such a short amount of time? Frequently, Athiests tell me they don't need God to have a moral code, a sense of right and wrong, or an ethical character. Tell us, as someone who doesn't mind agreeing to something and doing the opposite, do you think you are in posession of any of those?
  11. Hi StMonica, The sweetest, nicest little old lady I ever met, was a Catholic lady in Salt Lake City named Mary. Welcome to the forums.
  12. Sorry for our reaction to you free_thinker. We're a little touchy when someone shows up and asks us about our underwear. And the last dozen visitors to this site who called themselves free thinkers, were all trolls just here to mock or argue.
  13. Because, being the heretic you are, you don't realize My Little Pony is shown on the Hub network.
  14. Well, not really. I've encountered many, many bronies who not only believe the show writers made Rainbow gay, but they produce fan videos, fanfics, and fan art in great quantities clearly depicting her as such. We have to be very careful what we click as my daughters look for My Little Pony stuff online.(Not the military bronies though. They like her because of that episode where she went to the Wonderbolts academy.)
  15. I'd like to continue with this case, if you're willing Anne.Could you describe, in your own words, what the difference is between infanticide and abortion? I already know what the church says, and what the law says. I'd like to know what Anne says.
  16. I have a very simple, but technically ecclectic want. I would like to go to lds.net, and be able to immediately use the down arrow or page down button. Right now, when I go to lds.net, neither works, unless I first click on the page with my mouse. I don't like having to move from mouse to keyboard. It wastes valuable tenths of seconds.
  17. I used to think something similar, until I experienced this:I was in my mid-20's, hanging out with some friends. One friend, a lady a few years younger than me, was opining about abortion. She voiced the opinion that it should be legal for a woman to abort her baby within the first year of the baby's life. Let me say that again: I was standing less than 2 feet away from a woman, who, being fully serious, and fully aware of what she was saying, voiced the opinion that a mother should be able to abort her baby within a year of it being born. Let me say it a third time: This lady, who was not drunk, didn't do drugs, wasn't mentally incompetent, had a job, a boyfriend, and active social life, and was competent to vote and enter into contracts, thought a woman should be able to abort her newborn child as long as it was under a year old. Anne, would you like to speak to your statement above? Do you believe that such a choice should be between the woman, doctor, and God? If not, why not?
  18. 1. Globs of cells aren't human, and don't have rights. You have the right to do what you like with your own globs of cells (within reason). 2. Humans are human, and deserve equal protection under the law, regardless of their ability to stand up for themselves. Since God is silent on the matter, it's up to us humans to decide when something goes from being a glob of cells, to being human. We have to draw the line somewhere, so we'll know when a woman falls into category 1, or when a baby falls into category 2. Because once a glob of cells becomes human, you don't get to kill it just because you want to. Because it's a human, and humans have rights, and deserve equal protection under the law. We fight over where to draw the line, but few would disagree with the self-obvious truths above. To put it another way, people who don't like what I just said, will most likely not disagree with what I've said, they'll get bent out of shape for me being a man, or some such nonsense.
  19. Hi Lakumi, This isn't really a place to post non-LDS themed stuff, no matter how cool it is. I know deviantart.com is a great place to post artwork, I'm sure there are plenty of places for the written word. You should post them there, and link them here if you like. (As long as nothing violates the site rules.)
  20. StephenVH, I'd like to let you know that this is not a debate forum. We don't argue and battle with apologetics here. The people who pay for lds.net, want to provide a place for mormons to get their opinions out. If you want to argue those opinions, or measure their worth, or compare them with yours in friendly discussion or even firm debate, you'll have to do it somewhere else. I can recommend the Mormon Dialogue and Discussion Board. They have a much more critic-friendly set of site rules than we do. They'll be happy to refer you to what they consider definitive sources, and then defend the relative points and merits with you. Because here at lds.net, we've got site rule #1:
  21. Now Lakumi, if we start brohoofing each other in this thread, people will die from coolness overload. One step at a time.
  22. It would be more correct to say there is zero conclusive evidence. There is much evidence which supports BoM accounts, just none of it is conclusive.
  23. Hi Bananikka, There are some LDS who believe strongly that sometime soon, the prophet will issue a "callout" to all faithful saints to travel (by foot if necessary) to Salt Lake City. They tend to believe this will preceed or coincide with some global catastrophy involving falling governments and whatnot. They tend to believe they'll be camping in the Rocky Mountains for a year, living the United Order during that time. Some of them even believe there are active plans in the church involving stake presidents and bishops, organizing people into companies of fifty, and whatnot. They believe these things, even though a few GA's and an apostle or two have been specifically asked about their beliefs, and the church leaders all chuckle and say there is no such belief or plan in church leadership. The church's advice to "gather at the stakes of Zion" still stands, and there are no plans to change that advice at this time. They have similarities with survivalist folks and conspiracy theorists. One group is led by a guy named Roger Young (I think he claims to be a descendant of Brigham Young). They even set a few specific dates for the callout to happen (dates which all have come and gone a few years ago.) For all I know they're still off placing new dates and trying to keep their RV's loaded, with the most up-to-date Rocky Mountain maps in their GPS systems. You can't really tell, because the website they run demands you fork over money to view the forums and articles. I consider those folks nuts.
  24. Just out of curiosity, do you keep abreast of current advances in mesoamerican archaeology? It seems that not a year goes by, where there's not a new massive city complex discovery. Central and South America is a fascinating place, with new stuff happening all the time. Here is a truth in the field of archaology: Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. If you don't believe that, there is no answer any mormon can give you which will satisfy you, StephenVH. You may just need to sit there and be unsatisfied with our answers, and think we don't have good answers, and believe the weight of the evidence is against the BoM, and other such thoughts. Are you ok with walking around like that? I'm ok with you walking around like that.
  25. Here's what I wrote about it. Sorry it's long.
