Tyler90AZ Posted September 10, 2011 Report Posted September 10, 2011 Since I joined the church my Grandpa has always said that if I even thought about leaving the church I would lose my family, property and life. The first two have happened so I struggle answering his question about getting my life taken. He says the Danites are going to come after me like old times. Can anybody help me come up with a solid answer for him because I am struggling? Quote
skippy740 Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 "You're absolutely right." That'll shut him up. 100% total agreement is very hard to argue against! :) Quote
beefche Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 The Danites? Really? The Danites are still used to intimidate people? Yeah...I think I'd tell Grandpa that the Danites won't come after one of their own. Then ask him if he sleeps at night with a light on. Quote
john doe Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 Did he also tell you that if you step on a crack you'll break your mother's back? More importantly, did you believe him? Quote
Guest FixingTheWrongs Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 I had no idea what the Danites were until this post and after looking it up online. Sounds like Grandpa has been reading Sherlock Holmes: A Study in Scarlet a bit to much lately. Quote

MorningStar Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 That's ridiculous. The Danites are coming after your grandfather. Quote
Spartan117 Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 If my Grandparents were still around, I would want them to be just like your Grandpa. Best FHE you'd ever have. Quote
Guest mormonmusic Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 · Hidden Hidden HIs comments are so preposterous I would write them off and not let them affect your testimony. I also know that even though people get disaffected from the Church, God continues to love them, bless them, and help them. Sure, the disaffection is regrettable and unwise, but it doesn't mean that you are totally in the outgroup and punished at every turn just because human weakness got in the way. The things you mention -- loss of family and property happen to the righteous as well. I deal with people like your grandfather by putting distance between us to the extent possible, and avoiding the subject if I have to interface with them regularly. Go forward in peace as your grandfather sounds like he's making up stuff.

NoGreaterLove Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 Is your grandfather speaking as a patriarch? Is he speaking having authority from God and prophesying what would happen to you? I am not discounting what he said so fast, until I have more understanding of where he is coming from. As far as the Danites, if he is inspired to tell you what he told you, then it might be symbolic of apostasy. My point being, two possibilities exist. One being he is prophesying within his stewardship and the other, he is just messing with you. Quote
FunkyTown Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 Bah hahahahahahahahah! *deep breath* BAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Actually, wait. I'm going to stop laughing. Since we have the power to strip life, family and property from people, can I get a really nice home from someone rich? That would be awesome. Quote
prophetofdoom Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 What does it mean to "leave" the church? If your grandfather considers being inactive "leaving the church"... then he must account for the millions of less active members that still are living, have their property, and have their families intact. There are also members who request to have their names removed from the records of the church. There are most likely thousands of individuals who have done so. Many of these people still have their lives, property, and families. The Danites DO NOT exist. There is not some hit team waiting around to whack people who leave or even apostatize from the church. Guest mysticmorini Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 IF modern danites were to exist there are only 2 possibilites 1. they are way to busy with the counless "exmormons" to ever get around to knocking you off.2. They don't actually go after exmormons or limit themselves to the highprofile ones. Quote
