.. is connected to who on Facebook? If you are, did you meet in person at an LDS.Net get together, or are you comfortable with adding just about anyone to your FB friend list?

I'm on FB with two different names. One is my old Muslim one and the other is my real one and I'm using the Muslim one less and less. I just don't reveal a lot on either page.

It is surprising to me that people who use FB seem so reticent to put themselves on Mormon.org.

I'm friends on FB with one person from LDS.net. We did meet at an LDS.net dinner, but we were FB friends prior to that.

I know there are mixed emotions about FB. I happen to love it. I've connected with so many extended family members--cousins that I rarely see. It's wonderful to know what's going on in their lives. I've also been able to connect with missionary companions, school friends/acquaintances, etc. With the extended family that I'm FB friends with, they are not all my generation. Many are from the younger generation, who wouldn't ordinarily have much in common with me. But, now when we have family get togethers/reunions, they are very comfortable in talking to me. I've even had two daughters of one my cousin's come and visit me while I was in the Seattle area visiting my son. I'm pretty sure it's because of FB that they felt the desire and were comfortable enough to come visit with me. For me, FB has been a blessing. In some ways I feel like it helps promote the Spirit of Elijah.

Bini, to answer your question: I have yet to make it to a lds.net gathering. Tried to while I was living in AZ- got food poisoning at a Denny's on the trip there. Made it to Page AZ (from Casa Grande, AZ) and had to turn around. That was one awful trip!

UN-fortunately all of the get together's are in Utah, during conferences when the weather is nasty. I. Do. Not. Do. Driving. In. The. Snow. And flying is just way too expensive. Now, if there were a get together in Portland OR or even Seattle WA, then I could easily go.

I am connected to more NON family on FB.

If I like you AND trust you on a forum, then I will ask you privately if you would like to be friends on FB. My FB is as private as I can make it. Mostly my contacts on FB are from Church and the forums. NO friends of friends. Only my friends can see/read.

I am the same way here on this forum. I won't accept just anyone as a friend willy-nilly.

So if you would like to be my friend on FB, send me a pm here at the forum. I will also add you as a friend here at the forum.

I very much like it for the family. We have made friends with family we never knew before on facebook. I dont mind adding friends but be warned, if any one is interested, my facebook has a lot of liberal political discussion. I also have a lot of friends who are no where near LDS.

I have over 450 "friends" on facebook. As far as I know, I'm only connected to 2 people on the forum (that I can think of right now).

I'll add just about anybody - as long as there is a connection of some kind. Every once in a while, I'll get a "friend request" completely out of the blue with no other 'friends, groups, professions or other interests in common'. Those requests I typically ignore.

Since I don't use facebook to vent too much about my personal life, I have little reason to limit my contacts. I share things I find interesting or funny and keep in touch with others that I know. That's kinda it for me.

From LDS.net, I'm connected on Facebook to Pam, Dravin, and Beefche. I've met each of them in person. I was FB friends with Pam and Beefche prior to meeting them in person, Dravin after.

I used to add anyone and everyone to my Facebook, but I found I just didn't care as much about being connected to every.single.person. I'd ever met in my life. I did friend purge after friend purge, until I got it down to only people I enjoy interacting with. I'm pickier now about who I add, even if I know them.

Bini, I'd be happy to add you, though. :)

I'm thinking I'm too invested in FB. There are people on there that I should not be around. It is just hard trying to figure out how to Un friend people.

About once a year I go through my "friend" list and unfriend anyone who I haven't talked to in a year. I send them a message first and ask how they are and try to catch up, if they don't respond then I unfriend. No hard feelings. This does not include family members.

Some are friends because I want to keep track of them or in contact and others are friends because we have a lot in common and some are friends just because. Almost everyone on my friend list is someone I communicate with on a regular basis.

Most of my FB friends are people I have actually met in person. Probably around 90%. I have pretty tight privacy settings too. There are a handful of people from forums that I have also added, but not many. I don't think I have anyone from here on FB. I don't see the need for 3000+ friends I don't really know on my FB.

I am FB friends with Pam, prisonchaplain and Moksha (do others here remember Moksha?) from lds.net. I used to be FB friends with Heather a long time ago, but I think Heather decided to make her FB friends, family and real world friends only, which I understand perfectly. I have not met any lds.net people face to face.

I remember Moksha - I miss him.

I'm not FB friends with anyone here. I don't go on FB much and if people send me PMs there it will probably not be answered for 3 months or more. But, I do like to keep in touch with friends and family by just running through their wall once in a while. Especially my friends from high school or my friends/family in the Philippines.

I used to text message on the cell phone some guy from lds.net. He was cool. Sent me a bunch of music choices that were just the type of things I like that I've never heard of before! I wonder where he is now... I haven't seen him here in a while.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen JudoMinja here for a while now either. Miss that girl!

So many replies :]

Yeh I'm like some of you that are a bit more picky with who I add to FB. I'm also much more cautious with adding people from online who I have not met in person. But this is also because my FB has a lot of personal pictures online with family and friends. Apart of me feels like I'm exposing them to outsiders that they'll never know. I suppose I could adjust my Privacy Settings but I'm just not confident that this prevents unwanted views. I have it on a strict setting and I'll probably just leave it at that.

Bini, you do know that once you post a picture on Facebook they own it? When they changed their policy I deleted all the pics of family I had on there.
