All emotion. All hype. No substance. And they wonder why Trump beat Hillary? Quote

Guest MormonGator Posted March 22, 2018 Report Posted March 22, 2018 Usually the guys talking about who they want to beat up are the biggest babies out there who have never been in a "real fight" in their entire lives. Quote

Didn't you hear? Biden's an athlete (pronounced "aff-leet"). Quote

This is so true. That’s why I always prefer to deal with things in person. Recent example: over the past week I’ve received several emails from a senior officer I’ve never met, copying many others, that were really condescending and incorrect, blasting me. Everyone, including my boss, said he’s a jerk. Yesterday I printed them all out and went to find his office. He received me coldly, and I told him he was incorrect, I didn’t appreciate his tone, and instead of correcting him publicly I chose to come introduce myself. I handed him his stack of emails and my supporting documents. After a 30 minute discussion I knew his life story, received an apology, was told he was shocked I didn’t sit in my office complaining about what a jerk he was like everyone else, and he actioned favorably every single item I’d been trying to accomplish for the last week. We shook hands and parted on good terms. It’s much harder to bluster when faced with a confident, respectful, and human face looking you in the eye. This reminds me of some advice Chris Christie received from his father. "It's very hard to hate up close." So, his advice to Obama was to make John Bhoener (sp?) his buddy. Reach across the isle by making people your friend on a non-political level and you can then more reasonably negotiate the political stuff. Quote

But not Trump or any other Republican except John McCain. Quote

That's nice in a dream world, but the politicians who do what you are describing are called "wishy washy", "moderates" or "sell outs" by their own party. Quote

So, you're saying that liberal newscasters and pundits would actually say something negative about Obama had he done this? I question that opinion heavily. Quote
Guest MormonGator Posted March 23, 2018 Report Posted March 23, 2018 No, and I have no idea how you came up with that. What I'm saying is those who try to make "reach across the isle by making people your friend on a non-political level" like Joe Manchin, Susan Collins, John McCain, and Bill Nelson are labeled as "moderates" and "sell outs" by the bases of their party. I don't want moderates. I don't vote for moderates. I vote for people who align as closely to my views as possible and will advocate for those views to the very end. I have little use for compromise in many situations, particularly those that deal with my liberty. Quote

Sadly though, not everyone agree with us and we have politicians who have been elected who don't do what @Grunt and @MormonGator would like them to do. Quote
raven2 Posted March 25, 2018 Report Posted March 25, 2018 (edited) I really like Elder Oaks talk on politics and law. The following is an amazing statement with great insight. Sounds like moderates are exactly what is needed. "Extreme voices polarize and create resentment and fear by emphasizing what is nonnegotiable and by suggesting that the desired outcome is to disable the adversary and achieve absolute victory. Such outcomes are rarely attainable and never preferable to living together in mutual understanding and peace." Edited March 25, 2018 by raven2 Quote
