Easter Sunday - making sacrament meeting special?

All wards in my stake have been encouraged to make Sacrament meeting this week a special occasion and invite friends family etc

My ward are reversing the order of SS and sacrament so that Sacrament is last, followed by a munch and mingle to encourage visitors to stay and socialise. As a ward council we have come together to discuss topics for talks and have 2 musical items (we NEVER have musical items in sacrament).

I didn't have anything to do with it, but my Sunday was made special today because David A. Bednar and his wife,  Susan, spoke in Sacrament Meeting. It was profound.

Our ward choir has been shredded by overachievers contradicting the directors.  For me it has been a lesson in following direction rather than being “right”.  For over a year we have not had a choir – just “musical numbers”.  This Easter Sunday we had a choir after one practice of what I consider a difficult presentation.   I love music and appreciate the opportunity to worship through music.  Some of my most profound spiritual experiences have come through worship filled music.  But as I age my individual talent is aging (for the worse with everything else).

I know there are many on the forum that enjoy various “kinds” of music.  I will not say much in criticism other than music is worship and I wonder if some music fosters idolatry.   I have learned to appreciate the music of the restoration.

We had the Primary sing before the first speaker,  then had a musical number after that.

I reminded my Primary-aged kids that they would sing Gethsemane in Sacrament Meeting today. I got a bit nervous* ** when the oldest started singing "Gethsemane, Gethsemane" to the tune of O Christmas Tree!

 

*He sang the correct words and melody during Sacrament Meeting.
** Like I have any right to complain. When I was told what they'd be singing, I was trying to figure out how they turned an Andrew Lloyd Webber solo piece into a choral number.

We had a very positive day. Sunday school numbers were more dismal than usual (only 6 adults), then we had a full house for sacrament meeting, I did quick head count and we easily had double the usual number of adults in attendance.  Lots of people stayed for the munch and mingle too.

Our musical numbers were by the primary children and then the youth.  This boosted attendance as parents who do not normally attend came to please their children

I understand that it was special for another reason. Elder David A. Bednar said in the April 2014
General Conference address ("Bear Up Their Burdens With Ease") that revelation teaches April 6
is the actual and accurate date of Christ's birth.

The Church published a simple Easter program for Sacrament meeting a few years ago in the Liahona (linked below). I was unaware of it until I went searching. This might be a good document to base your ward program if you're looking for something special that day.
