AnthonyB Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 A lot of heavy discussions going on, so I thought why not start a topic where we can share the some of things that unite us rather than always talking of that which divides us.My favourite minor character in the bible is Jehonadab son of Recab.Jehonadab son or Recab gets a small mention in 2 Kings 10:15-16, nothing that remarkable. However several centuries later in Jeremiah 35, we find that all his descendants are living by the commands he had given them, faithfully sticking by it even whilst the rest of the Israelites had fallen away from follow the commands of God, yet alone their ancestors. For all his descendants sticking with no houses but only tents, no crops, no vineyards, no drinking wine would have been quite an effort. However I would love to have such a godly influence on my family that centuries later my example and life was still having an impact on my descendants. Quote
Elgama Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 My favourite minor character that should be given more recognition than he gets is Joseph father of Jesus - he had such strength and spirit but without his influence the Saviour would have been a different person. -Charley Quote
PentiumInside Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 I would have to say Alma the younger, he was a partying woman chasin fool in his younger days !! WOOOHOOOOO ! Quote
NateHowe Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 I think the book of Joel is excellent, and often skipped over in favor of the more well-known books. Is it a character? I guess not. How about Maher-shalal-hash-baz? Coolest name ever. Quote
RachelleDrew Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 Probably Paul the Apostle. He was just a very interesting person overall. My favorite scriptures are all written by him. : ) Quote
Moksha Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 Possibly either Junia and Andronicus or Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Quote
prisonchaplain Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 Naaman was a great man . . . but he was a leper. 2 Kings 5. A fascinating story of a military general, wealthy, favored...but sick. Leprosy is an Old Testament sickness with strong links to sin in general. To see one so great humble himself and accept God's healing...and to see so many other minor characters in this story do their part--great great stuff. I love this story! Quote
WillowTheWhisp Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 Onesimus. He must have had a great deal of faith in God and in Paul's influence over Philemon to have gone back to the master he ran away from after converting to Christianity. Quote
Hemidakota Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 I would have to say Alma the younger, he was a partying woman chasin fool in his younger days !! WOOOHOOOOO ! You forgot to add: he was a second generation, party dude, woman chasing fool. Quote
Hemidakota Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Jehovah...I wait for that day to first embrace him and then cry, knowing brotherly bond we have. Him being the eldest and my hero. Quote
Misshalfway Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 I love 'em all. How do you expect me to pick? Ok. Gideon. Moses. Enoch. Teancum. Abish. Deborah. Ester. Nephi. Mormon. Alma. Abinidi. See......I just can't choose! Quote
skalenfehl Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Teancum and Gideon! Great Nephite patriots! Quote
Misshalfway Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 They were both brilliant and selfless! Quote
Misshalfway Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Funny! Where were guys like this when I was dating in college? Kissed a lot of frogs.....KWIM? Quote
checkerboy Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 Ok I have to go with the three that I have on my bedroom wall. First Nephi the son of Lehi, because he was such a great leader. Second, Ammon, the missionary, because he is one of the greatest examples of being a servant. Third, Captain Moroni, because this guy just rocks. If everyone was like him the very foundations of hell would shake. Quote
skalenfehl Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Besides the two mentioned above I really like Zeezrom. I mean the guy's a lawyer of all things (anyone know a good lawyer joke?). But as he questions Alma and Amulek he finds himself more and more in trouble. I think it's funny really. He got caught in his lies and then realizes, hey! I better start asking some serious questions! I like how he is healed miraculously by Alma and goes on a mission. Talk about a complete change of heart and exercise in faith. Quote
skippy740 Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 I saw this thread and all I could think of was Shiz. Definitely a minor character, but a great graphical reference of his death! (Ether 15:29-31) Quote
skalenfehl Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Ah, yes, and speaking of the Book of Ether. A character so minor that we don't even get to read his name despite all that he did for his people, yet he had such great faith as to have the veil removed from is eyes to behold the Lord. It wasn't until after the Book of Mormon was published that Joseph Smith mentioned that his name was Mahonri Moriancumer! Quote
Hemidakota Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 It is only minor due to lost records. We only have what Ether abridged from earlier writings and most likely few plates and time to record the event. We will, I can attest to this, the writings of this great man in a complete and detail content very soon. Quote
