skalenfehl Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Welcome! What do pinoy and noypi mean? Quote
aravis Posted April 29, 2008 Author Report Posted April 29, 2008 pinoy is a slang term for "filipino". Filipino-one who is a native/citizen in the Philippines noypi is just a variation of "pinoy" Quote
bayoumom Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 I have a question about Tagalog (is that how you spell it?) Is it a written language as well as a spoken one? My son in law is part Filiapino and I know he can speak it but have never asked him about whether or not it is written. Quote

gomspal Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 (edited) Tagalog is both written language and a spoken one. Tagalog is the main dialect of the Filipinos. But there are other dialects spoken, like, Kapampangan, Ilokano, Waray, Cebuano, Pangasinense, Chabakano, Ilonggo, Bicolano to name a few. Filipino language used to be based on Tagalog but now, according to the Commission on Filipino language, Filipino is the indigenous written and spoken language of Metro Manila and other urban centers in the Philippines used as the language of communication of ethnic groups.[7] (Filipino language - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) .I'm glad there are lots of people here who know about the Philippines and its food. I used to eat balut but it's not good for your blood pressure. Edited July 3, 2008 by gomspal Quote
Rico Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 I am lucky to have never got an up close and personal look at balut. My wife likes to eat balut and knows that if I take a look at it, I will tell her how disgusting it looks. And yes I am currently living in the Philippines. An interesting fact is that while Filipino is the national language, the language with the most speakers is Cebuano/Visayan. I think it's time to go out to Jollibee for breakfast. :) Quote
pam Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 Balut isn't good for my blood pressure and I haven't even tried it. All I have to do is look at it and my blood pressure raises. Quote
