  1. Have you perused the links in the Scripture Citation Index? (Link should take you to 2 Nephi 3.)

  2. I wasn't aware of the Scripture Citation Index, so i'll definitely take a look! I've found in my notes that Cleon Skousen was the one who said the prophesies of Joseph of Egypt are found within Jewish tradition. Still looking for the sources. (I understand some caution is warranted when reading Skousen)

  3. The “controversial” commercial: I struggle to see the controversy here. The message I get from it is “Yes, many people who are ideologically opposed to you are Christian. They belong in the body of Christ. So do you. There’s a place for you and a place for them.” It’s an attempt to invite people to fill the pews who may feel alienated by church. Once there, it’s the job of local congregations to help them feel welcome and the role of local ministers to invite the same sort of change and indwelling encouraged of long-time members. Calvary Chapel in California took a similar approach with the displaced hippies and its members today form a small Bible Belt in a land of “nones”.

  4. Nope. Even if they want, we should proactively discriminate against certain things when it comes to the military (specifically I mean trans and women. Trans because I believe they're mentally unfit, and women because women shouldn't be fighting and dying for us).

  5. Hmmm. Sometimes, just because you CAN DO A THING, does not mean you SHOULD DO A THING.

  6. "The mission of the United States military is to kill people and break things. Anything else is a distraction." - Rush Limbaugh (Holy crap do I miss that guy more every day.)

  7. The Church of Jesus Christ of LDS is the only church with the true priesthood and living ordinances. It obviously has not cornered the market on truth, or righteousness though.

  8. I get what you are saying and I believe this is mostly a lexical disagreement. I will also argue that, in my view, what you are saying here is meaningfully equivalent to what I said. I will add the clarifying note that, if there is anything the Father cannot Himself do alone, it is only because the capacity to do so is not something that exists within reality. If anyone needs them, I am happy to provide relevant passages from the scriptures that relate to this discussion, my position, and why I am willing to be more explicit in the way I said what I did (I know Vort already knows them).

  9. Let us be slow to affirm that God is unable to do something. There is nothing (meaningful) that God cannot do. Nothing. God cannot sin, but we understand this to mean that God is infinitely far beyond any desire to sin, that the very idea of a "sinful God" is an oxymoron, and not that God is completely unable to choose to act as he sees fit. The Holy Spirit is God entering into us. God the Father, God the Son. It is a literal thing. If we don't understand it, it's because the mechanisms and definitions involved have not been publicly revealed.

  10. That is exactly what it means. The Father can neither dwell within us, nor lay down His own life, because He is already a perfected, immortal being. The Son offered Himself to fulfill the Father's plan, and the Holy Spirit did the same relevant to His role. The Godhead exists out of necessity. The Father, being perfect in every way, would not have introduced roles and members of the Godhead that He was capable of filling on His own. This is also another reason that it can be rightly said that the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are one God. None of them possess the capacity to bring about the salvation and exhalation of man alone. Hence, united, they operate as one God.

  11. Presumably, he's never had a body and doesn't know what he's missing. Or maybe he's just willing to make the sacrifice until his time.
