Problem is that my wife is up at 4:45 and alarm in on her side of the bed....I hit the gym at night. I think my main problem is I struggle to fall asleep at night and then I awake with her alarm and between her getting ready and the dogs I can't go back to sleep until she leaves at 6:00. Then I drift back off till 7:30 or 7:45....

Today I did rise at 6:30.....my new goal for next week is 6:00....we shall see

Or maybe change education to a system that teaches a kid how to actually do something worth a competitive wage. It is not a question of low income earners paying more taxes, it is about a fair tax system that isn't punitive  toward those who achieve.

Too bad the so called wealthy are so demonized, yet they fund the government handouts and subsidies. Our tax system really sticks it to the middle class folks that are not rich but are not poor.

It's time for another mea culpa by yours truly.

The "Gun Opinion" thread was closed because of me and I don't blame Pam in the least. My last post to you was uncalled for. I tell myself over and over again that I can disagree with someone without being disagreeable, and then I turn right around and prove that I didn't hear a word I said.

I apologize for the tone and content of my post.

Terrorism on our own soil is a legitimate concern.  One of the things that has always slowed down a new attack like 9/11 or a Beslan in the US is the American police officer.  The terrorists know we think differently than the police anywhere else in the world.  They think we are crazy because we will continue to feed ourselves into the "meat grinder" to stop these types of attacks.  They know this...but will someday try us again.

I just read an article about growing concern in Italy of an ISIS invasion from Libya. My son comes home from his mission March 6th....and we are very thankful.

You mean, besides the fact that a wedding celebrates a sexual union and that gay sex is both sinful per se and, per our theology, cannot bring lasting happiness? This is sound from a practical standpoint; but I think it gives short shrift to what we, as Latter-day Saints, understand to be happening in a gay marriage. Exaltation requires a marriage to a person of the opposite gender, except in limited cases for persons who lack such an opportunity in mortality; in which case celibacy is expected.
Persistent and unrepentant fornicators, we are told, will tend to end up in the Telestial Kingdom--and that is after spending a thousand years in spirit prison waiting for redemption.
A person who enters a gay marriage is spurning the concept of celibacy in favor of a relationship that is, in essence, fornication. Even if the person later repents (an excruciatingly painful process that would involve the dissolution of the gay union), who knows whether the person will be deemed to have "rejected" the true concept of marriage so as to forfeit the prospect of a celestial marriage in the hereafter?
It's not a matter of "harrumph, harrumph, isn't this sinful?!". It's a matter of "you're committing spiritual suicide; and I'd rather not witness this, just as I'd rather not watch you slit your own wrists". It takes a special kind of person to stand there and watch a loved one do that, acting out of a quiet determination that the bride/groom understands the love their family has for them. I salute such Mormons. But in some of these responses I detect an air of "pshaw, it's just a wedding and not that big a deal". As Latter-day Saints, we should be the first to understand: This is a spiritual catastrophe; and those who get that are not the moral inferiors of those who don't.

I think you're probably right; but it sure galls me to see these nations who spent the past three decades sneering about those gun-obsessed Americans with their inferior social services; suddenly screaming about "America neglecting its international responsibilities" when they find their backyards aflame and realize that national health care, eight weeks of paid vacation per year, and state-subsidized retirement at age 50 don't really protect your populace against a bunch of determined bad guys with guns.

People publicly celebrate the intimate emotional and sexual union of a homosexual couple.

I don't know where I stand on this matter, but to pretend that a homosexual "marriage" is exactly the same as a heterosexual marriage is silly.

The Anti-Nephi-Lehites were a very, very special case. They were murderers who rejoiced in their murders, but were then brought to repentance. In return for their forgiveness for their many murders, both of Nephites and of their own people, they covenanted that they would stand by and watch their own families be slaughtered, including themselves, and never raise a finger in self-defense. And they did so; it was not until many years later, when they were watching their Nephite protectors being mowed down, that they considered reneging on their covenant, which idea was promptly quashed by Helaman.

tl;dr summary -- Don't hold the Anti-Nephi-Lehis up as non-aggression pacifists. They were nothing of the sort.

I was up at the range today getting a new taser cartridge (one got expended last night) and had a conversation with our range master about a tactical class we are teaching.  Somehow we ended up on the topic of UK police officers.  I find it interesting that the UK is looking more and more at arming their "patrol" officers with pistols.  I wonder if this will eventually have an effect on private ownership as well.
